As a 10 year old, loved my flights on the Viscount, South African Airways 1960s. Thought seating pattern was two and two, Perhaps my memory of my first flight on a DC 4.. Really felt like flying, not like today!
I don’t know why you didn’t mention Mick Martin and some of his crew. He was arguably the greatest low level pilot in bomber command. He also had Bob Hay the head bom aimer in 627 a shack Leggo head navigator on 617.

I seem to remember they were a tad expensive, compared to other cars at the time at over £4000. One used to drive on the A914 near Cupar towing a small trailer at the back, so a towbar might have been an option. I used to look forward to seeing it at exactly the same time every week as it did look rather special.
He has the membership of LRDG wrong. It was initially all New Zealand troops apart from the officers. They were later joined by the Guardsmen, Yeomanry and Rhodesians(not South Africans). The original patrols T, W and R were all NZ patrols. The patrols that were added were G (guardsmen) and Y (yeomanry) and S. there were also Highlanders in Y. I can't remember what T, W and R stand for, but I think they were all Maori names. T and R were combat units.
Wow, what an amazing car and brilliant story. You must be so proud, and so lovely to still have something that your old man cherished, and you also. You're a lucky man. Thanks for sharing.
