That’s so beautiful! Would you mind if I asked what lake this is? Because me and my dad are going backpacking in the wind rivers and really want to catch some golden trout!
Alright!! You got a good Flatty!! Awesome to watch how excited you are! I went a whole year without a hookup! I love that you have the Tiger setup from Walmart! I used top fly into Destin Florida and hit the Walmart and buy that rod for the week and then give it to someone on the beach when it was time to leave!! You are still welcome on my boat whenever you are ready!
Awesome work to get a giant! I’ve only ever caught them on accident bass fishing. They sure are big though! Also way to go catching one on a plastic spin reel that was impressive!!
Great job getting on your first flats! They can be tough even for people that have been catching them for years. Your first 2 flats during the day is pretty special (especially for videos purposes). My first few flatheads were very close to where you are fishing haha Also, don't be afraid to stay the full night if and when you can. I've caught a ton of flatheads super late into the night and morning. Now you have to beat your PB again!
Thanks man! Watching your videos was honestly the secret! I have watched all of your videos studiously trying to figure out what I was missing. I think snelling my hooks and just spending the time was the ticket. Love your channel; thanks for the comment and support.
@@FishingCircle Glad I could help a little haha! Snelling is definitely pretty important for hook ups on some hooks. As annoying as it sounds when people say it, time on the water really does help a ton. Someone can tell you anything and everything and you can still strike out because of some dumb reason lol If you do start really getting into flatheads, I recommend increasing the strength of your line or you'll learn the hard way like a lot of us. These days I use 120-150lb braid and the same for my mono leader. It definitely isn't because of the fish. It's the structure. We have some nasty sharp rock piles and submerged trees that you will lose to on a decent fish. I know you caught your bigger flat on the cheaper setup which makes for a really fun fight but if you keep fishing for them, you'll hook a 40+ and you might not land it. Ask me how I know haha that being said, I've caught tons of flats with lighter gear back in the day. You almost never really need that heavy of line but you'll wish you had it when you hook one that breaks you off. Pretty much every time I would break off on a fish, I'd gradually increase to where I'm at now. I've never broken 120+ (yet) but I have with 100lb test. Still haunts me since it fought way harder than any flat I've ever had on. Just some food for thought. You'll catch plenty of fish on both setups you showed in the video today so I'd just keep fishing with them and upgrade as you feel like it. Tight lines out there! I bet you'll break your PB a couple times this year if you put in some hours. Once you break the seal, the flood gates open. I was stuck on 16lbs for a long time when I was younger and then broke it 3 trips in a row
That’s great advice! I want to replace my cheap set up with a heavy casting rig with line like that. I’m hoping to keep breaking that PB! You’re the man; thanks for everything 👊🏼
@@FishingCircle nice! I like spinning reels but bait casters are nice for their clickers and line capacity. Especially if you are using a kayak to run baits, it starts making more sense haha
I wonder if I'll be able to tell what you've been catching when you are working on my teeth. You spend so much time on the water, hand washing probably won't be enough
Why you leave idaho i just found you today and was looking forward to a good idaho fishing youtuber because there are not any good Idaho fishing youtuber
Awesome! Sight fishing carp is so fun! It’s like playing a video game. I just thought it was some type of goldfish but the fantail is so cool. We have so many people release koi out here that our ponds always have some crazy variations but I’ve never seen the fantail common carp before. Keep up the great fishing! I wish you had your camera stand facing the water on the edge that would be sweet to see your cast and bait as the fish bites it.
Awesome idea! I want to utilize my big camera on a tripod more to give better variety and help you guys see better what’s happening. Thanks for the comment! Awesome stuff coming this year
You should enjoy hair while you have it!! Someday you'll be middle-aged and balding and wish you had it back (like me, you know, 70 and middle aged.....
Awesome video! The Colorado!! I miss those Idaho fishing days. Hatchery trout here in California are so finicky that those Berkeley Atomic jigs are the best! Similar to trout magnet. Bass can’t go wrong with a classic Rebel Popper topwater lure! Keep up the great content!
Enjoyed the video. Been up that drainage a few times. Gets pressure since it's easy to get to. Did not catch or even see any golden at the top lake, but it was mid-September. Assume you were there late July/early Aug. Did use spinning outfit (wind more often than not) but they usually hit a Jakes. Can also put a fly on same rig. Had a big one on an orange scud at another lake but lost it. The 2nd lake has lots of camp spots but need to be careful with all the dead trees. Wouldn't be the Winds without a storm of some type!
This was my first time in the winds, and I am so excited to go back and explore more lakes. Thanks for the information and the comment! Good luck out there 🎣
The Rapala Ultralight Minnow is about the only bait I trout fish with now. They work really well for me. Huge rainbow you lost on the spoon though and nice browns. Subscribed.
Happy new year with many more fishing excursions!!(hopefully you have more time for) since trouts in lakes and ponds, love logs under cover,i suggest the use of one fly.as the bucket list, depends on the area, the state and the time and money you can place in. There are many fish to tick off, like splake, lake trout, golden or masky and northern pike, what ever is convenient to your status man!!!
