Love the self taught thing but would like to see the science behind plaster its uses and its chemical reactions to different surfaces......how is a good key blue grit??...
We lived without a "proper" kitchen for eight years! One length of old worktop resting on fridge and freezer and an old gas cooker rescued on its way to the tip. Eventually it all worked out. Take your time and get what works for you - that extra metre will make all the difference and will give you war stories to tell over the meals you'll cook in it!
Did you use 3/4 inch MDF (medium density fiberboard) for the very top the units? Also, you mentioned you would explain why you left a gap in top piece, but you didn't address it.
UNO wallplugs are amazing. Available almost anywhere they can be used in any type of wall, brick, block, stone or plasterboard. You won’t be disappointed
I know you’re a year on from this but Zinsser 123 is an excellent sealer primer. The yellow paint would have originally being white oil based paint but it fades terribly over the years. Only use branded paint. Johnstone’s is very good as well.
Great video, is that the Gyproc Standard Square edge 9.5mm Plasterboard, (L)1.8m (W)0.9m from B&Q ? Also plan on overboardig soon , good thing I watched this video, was planning on getting the 12.5.. didnt even know 9.5 existted lol also can i use the mega stick if im overboarding over spiky artex texture (which prob contains asbestos)? Hope you'll make a ceiling pastering video too.
Hi, Thank you for the comment! Yes that was the plasterboard & size I was using. And yeah the mega stick should work exactly the same on most surfaces. Just remember to give the ceiling a light spray with water before applying, and then you should be good to go. Hope that helps😊
I've just done a quick search and MegaStik claims there is limited evidence. However its probably best to wear gloves as other brands may differ. Appreciate the comment & heads up 🙌
@truth3358 Id recommend to have the cracks central to a new board (where possible) , so that the new plasterboard joint is in a different position. Also using a combination of screws & adhesive can help lock everything in place. I had the exact same on my living room ceiling & i've had no problems since. Hope that helps 😁
Can i ask you why have you decided to put the new layer of plaster over the old one? If i got it right, the blue paint covers old plaster and you could have removed it down to bricks? And another thing - is Thistle multi finish the same thing as finishing plaster? They have so many products that i got confused. Thank you.
Hi, thistle multi finish is used for ‘skimming’ which is normally always over old plaster, or plasterboard. It’s standard practice to skim straight over old plaster when prepped correctly. To remove everything back to brick would require much more work/ mess, and it would be unnecessary for most walls. Hope this helps😊
@reno_with_us Thank you! This is the next bit of my pax hack and I've been struggling to figure out how to secure it. Were the brackets noticeable at the end? I guess at the top you hardly notice
Wonderful! I decided I want to do PAX built ins for my closet here in the states. You did such a great job on everything, even bridging the gap and making it seamless.
I am thinking of attempting this by myself as a 22 year old girl. The main thing that concerns me is the part with the wires. I also want to know what kind of wood you used, was it easy to do with tht bevel edge chisel, anything you would've done differently? ty!
How lucky is your Mrs?? To have such a clever and resourceful man like you to build something so great!! You should be so proud of your efforts and achievements!! And “you’re not even a carpenter” haha could have fooled me !! Again..great work…😊
Chalk line down the middle through the centre of the holes same again across each hole then mark the walls before overboarding then once boarded use the wall marks the chalk line over the boards to get your exact hole centres you probably already know this just though id pass it on just incase
Yes..tidy job and wired correctly, no single insulation showing outside of junction box, but should have done a quick test on existing😊 circuit to make sure you have correct polarity and a good earth conection. Leave the last light in chain disconnected so you can carry out continuity tests R1, R2 , Zs test and RCD trip times test for Minor Works Cert that needs issuing for addition to lighting circuit, once testing is done connect last light
You are doing great and the content is awesome Carry on dear,💖💖 But none of your videos does SEO. SEO is the most important to rank a video on RU-vid's top and get organic engagements for a lifetime. So it would help if you fix this to get the organic result. SEO is the lifeblood of organic engagements.
@@reno_with_us yes they are good saves so much mess! Handy tools! Keep up the good work. Considering you’re not a sparky you put more effort into that job with making sure you drill the holes in the centre of the joist and yes good for you. Good to see someone who tries and puts effort in! Every one has different ways of doing It. I can see why you hacked more of the ceiling out to get the drill in but you could have drilled multiple holes with the hole saw and DADE too just a tip…good you over boarded saves time!
Thanks man, especially the "small" tip about the corner. It really makes a difference. Kudos to the comment section as well, a lot of good advise here too!
