Hi All. I'm Anita and I sold my house and moved onto an electric narrowboat as a complete novice last year. I've been cruising, making lots of mistakes and having an absolute ball and I want to share my adventures with you.
I post a RU-vid short video every day with can be found on my channel page : Link is below

Hi Anita 👋, I see that Charlie is never afraid to jump into the boat like a gazelle 👏👏. The architecture of charismatic places is extraordinary in the United Kingdom 🏛⛪. Thank you so much and have a very nice week 🥰🤗🥰.
Liked the opening shot of Lot Mead lock. I grew up in Rickmansworth as a 9yo to about a 20yo. A young me used to help the working boats through Batchworth locks and sometimes cycled up to Lot Mead where more help often earned me a free apple from someone on the boats. Later years around the early 1990s I was working in Ricky again and my lunchtime walk was down a lane alongside the railway line down to Lot Mead where I would sit and eat my sandwich lunch. More often then not shared with a Coot or two. I'm glad that you are enjoying the area, I always did.
Hello Brian. Rickmansworth was a great place to visit. Lots of great walking to be had along the old railway line. I’m loving your memories, thank you for sharing 🥰🥰
Morning Anita. Great video with some lovely scenery 😊👍 Even over here we've heard of the M25 car park 🤣🤣 Hope you're well, and have a great week ahead 🥰🥰
@@michaelconnolly5463 Hello Michael. Myself and Charlie are very well thank you and loving the fact that it finally feels like July ( it’s been 3 days) 🤣🤣. Stay safe and I’ll see you next Sunday 🥰🥰
Entertaining video. Funny how things change. When the ‘horse-powered’ Grand Union Canal was finished, the horse was king (as it had been for 1,000’s of years) the most valuable thing a man could own, a status symbol of his wealth which many could never hope to afford. With the advent of the steam engine just years later - you couldn’t give a horse away.
@@ElectricNarrowboat That’s great & I’m really pleased it’s working out for you, we’ve got a narrowboat based at Whixall marina on the Llangollen canal but we’re only part time cruisers not constant. Look forward too more videos & catching up on past ones xxx
@@lyndaa7560 Hi Lynda. I was on the Llangollen Canal in December and January this year. I loved it. I’ll definitely be going back for another winter visit 🥰🥰
Dear Anita, in London (the Thames Barrier) they are already preparing for the increase in water levels due to climate change by 2030 (and a total of 1m by 2100). Do you know how it will affect the canals in general in the United Kingdom in the coming years? Sorry 🥺if this question is too serious or inappropriate 😔😌☺🥰.
@@shamsshams20261 Hi Shamsshams. Your question is not too serious or inappropriate. I actually have no idea but you make a great point. Hopefully someone, somewhere is thinking about it and plans are being made. I’ll try to find out 🥰🥰
Not sure I`d risk my health drinking canal water regardless how its been treated. I know much our domestic water comes from rivers; however that water is rigoursly checked in laboratories for bacteria growths. Where I work we have a reverse osmosis plant but that process water is dosed with Ozone gas which is far more effective that UV lamps
@@admiralcraddock464 Fair enough. I believe the testing that has been under gone to get the certificate to be allowed to sell something as drinking water. But I will be independently testing my water just to make sure it does what it says on the tin 🥰🥰
Hi, I just find this totally amazing and don’t understand why more people don’t use it on the canal, from Australia, we don’t have narrow votes I find them absolutely fantastic
@@bishopkinlyside8477 Hello Bishopkinlyside. I love knowing that I am not dependant on finding a tap at the right time so I can drink. I agree with you. Narrowboats are fantastic. It is a wonderful way to live 🥰🥰
Oh Anita, you have the best water filtration and treatment system to drink it too💦💫. It is expensive but you are totally independent and you even drink purer than bottled water💧💧💧. Great and thorough lock opening tutorial 👍. Have a nice week 🥰🤗🥰
@@shamsshams20261 Hi Shamsshams. I like to know that I am off grid for just about everything on my boat. Glad you enjoyed the video. See you next Sunday 🥰🥰
If you have to put a bit of grunt into closing the lock gates try leaving the gate paddles open until you've closed the gate. The open paddle allows water to flow through the gate to break the small vacuum created behind the gate as you try to unstick it from the wall. Grew up around the Batchworth locks many, many years ago. Where that Tesco is used to be a working narrow boat builders called Walkers.
You can always tell when your water filters are not working correctly because your hair turns blue. LOL Its a great filter system you have, however I was expecting a spindown filter to be in there before the pump.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting. Good content. Not sure why though. Personally I wouldn't. There's too much to go wrong and why try and drink from that filthy, stagnant, open sewer that is the uk canal system? There are plenty of filling points where you can get fresh water. I have a 400 litre tank that provides all my needs and is I feel, a better solution.
🥰Hi Ian. Fair enough. I wanted a filter system so that if I ever can’t move my boat for any reason I can still have water. There is not much difference from the water in canals and the water in reservoirs. My system cleans the water in the same way as water treatment plants do before it is put into the mains. I will be regularly testing my water though. Just to make sure 🥰🥰
@@ElectricNarrowboat yes, I understand and its a perfectly valid approach and a very interesting one at that. I’d worry about the maintenance side of things. What would happen in case of failure of any one of the components. Do you have a rigorous maintenance schedule? If a component like the uv light or diesel filter fails does it contaminate the tanks?
@@ianjones6685 if the UV bulb stops working the washing up and shower water becomes an e coli and coliform soup. ISO rat piss acceptable level times a million. I would hope that theres a system that monitors the power draw so if the bulb stops taking any amps it sets off an alarm and or stops the pump
I have a similar water filtration system that I designed myself. Particle filters, UV filter and RO filter. The main differences are that all of my water goes through the RO unit, and I use wound fibre string filters. The advantage of these is that they can go in the washing machine when they get clogged.
@@richieb7692 Morning Richie. It’s made life so much easier not needing to go to a tap if I want a bath 🛁 🥰. Glad you liked the how to do locks part I’ve had lots of people requesting that video. Have a great week. 🥰🥰
Hi, many thanks for sharing, always enjoy your cheerful shows. Very interesting information on the water, initially i thought errr canal water but i guess all our tap water comes from something similar, we just don't see it up close
@@philsmith5208 Morning Phil. That’s exactly right. When you look at a reservoir that water is filthy. Tap water doesn’t go through a reverse osmosis system so actually my drinking water has been shown to be cleaner than tap water🤣🤣. Thank you as always for watching and have a wonderful week🥰🥰
Hi Sherlock. The particle filters are changed most often but that depends on the amount of sediment in the water to begin with. The others should last a good few months. The estimated cost is around the same as water bills in a land home I think. I’ll let you know the exact costs after I’ve had the system in and working for a year 🥰🥰
You are an absolute STAR ⭐️!!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for explaining how the locks work! You must’ve been a teacher in another life because you simply couldn’t have explained that ANY better!!! 🙌🙌🙌 You’re my muse for my (🤞) future solo skipper life! Finally someone explained it effectively! A million thanks from California!!! 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶
Hi Nicholas. The particle filters get changed more often than the others but it does depend on the sediment in the water to begin with. I’ll know more after I’ve had the system in and working for a year. Then I’ll do a follow up video 🥰🥰
I appreciate you showing your water system and the excellent lock tutorial. The lake walk was so beautiful and relaxing. Watt a wonderful life fir you and Charlie!!❤
Interesting water system, does it clog up quicker with more sediment in the canal water? Good that the boss came out to sort out the filters. Thank you for an interesting vlog.
@@AndrewBroadbent-dr8wb Hi Andrew. Yes that’s exactly how it works. The sediment filters are the cheapest and will probably need changing more often than the others. I’m planning a follow up video with how often filters were changed and the 1st years costs. 🥰🥰
Very entertaining video - nice to see Charlie in such fine fettle. The problem with all water filtration systems is that they eventually fail - I always used to keep a couple of gallons of ‘shop bought’ water as a back up (keeps fresh for a few years - if stored correctly).
Hi Anita 🙋♀, don't you take the risk of scratching the side of the boat when you go through the lock gate with a rope? How brave you are 🤸♀ !!!! I really like your sweet 🫐and savory 🍅🥬garden. Thank you for this tour 🥰🤗🥰.
@@shamsshams20261 Hello Shamsshams. The gates are made of wood so Watt Way should be OK if she touches them. I’m looking forward to blueberries on my porridge in a few weeks 🥰. Take care and have a great week 🥰
Omg I loved this and I absolutely loved the boat green house and all the old buildings I cannot wait to visit the UK again ❤️ Hopefully I’ll plan it so I can be there for Trooping the colour and the Chelsea flower show and to shout you a beer or three in a cute little pub xox Ps I don’t need local maps to find a pub 😂 I can sniff a pub out underwater 😂 😂 🍻
@@allthatfluffnstuffQLDaustralia Hey Fluff. I’d love to sit and have a beer with you. I think we would have a great time. Let me know when you are planning on coming over 🥰🥰🥰
A lovely stretch of the canal system. I love looking at the houses and other boats. The boat with the greenhouse near the beginning was good. Enjoy the football final tonight.
@@sueshynn586 Hi Sue. It is a very picturesque canal, even though I’m really close to London. The football just finished. Maybe it’s our turn to win the World Cup🎉🎉

@@Curly22236 🤣🤣anything’s worth a try. Apparently you can’t get a mortgage for a boat but there is a company that gives loans for Narrowboats. I don’t know how good they are though
@@glennsunman9859 Hi Glenn. That I can’t explain. I’ve tested it on my iPhone and iPad and it works. Maybe your app needs updating?? (That’s my go to for everything 🤣)
Blimey, it's busy! Would like to know how Kevin wrapped the rope. I guess the rope holds itself in place when pulled from one direction and falls off when the pressure is released as he's passing through. A lovely trick. Kings Langley Skew Railway Bridge No 156 - the concrete bridge, was pleasing. 1950s I guess, built on the original brick pillars to carry the West Coast Main Line.
@@Daytona2 Hi Daytona. I wish I’d had time for a lesson. I’ll ask him if I bump into him again. Sounds like you know a lot about architecture. I liked it too even though it was made of concrete 🥰🥰
Absolutely enjoyable trip, thank you for the journey I really loved it, by the way did the fuel boat give you the secret of that rope trick on the lockgate?
