I didn't care for cruising when I was married to someone that loved it. I thought I might the first time. I love the ocean & ships. Although much smaller ships than a mega-cruiser. I didn't care for being catered to so much by people I knew weren't being paid right. Even if it was a good opportunity for them. Neither of us drank, maybe I had wine once. I can't say it was a total flop, but I went on 3 cruises because of my blushing bride & none of them were worth it. Galveston is a fun little city. 🙂
That major ruin is a day trip! I mean all day. It is not a hit and run kind of experience. Tulum is a lot smaller and doable in a few hours and because it is by the sea just amazing and lovely. I have been to the area many times but no cruise. I loved our Mexican trips in this region because we immersed our selves in the culture , even connected with knowledgeable guides and were not beholden to a big boat that you had to get back too, or woe is you. I think cruising is just not your thing.
“We want to be catered to”, “get our moneys worth”, drinks expensive, smoking 🤮kids🤮pollution🤮long lines🤮hate our dining time🤮 DO US ALL A FAVOR- NEVER TAKE ANOTHER CRUISE. Oh, “the amount of money we spent”- YOU are a joke, Karen.
Can anyone verify her claim that smoking is allowed in the bars? Ive done a few Carnival cruises and only saw smoking allowed in part of the casino and on one small area above the pool.
sounds like cruising is not your thing, maybe more research before on cruise lines and destinations as far as the impact on the environment I get it but if it something you feel guilty about you shouldn't have gone. the smoking isn't something I have not experienced on other cruise lines. maybe club med or sandals would suit you better. thanks for posting.
The drinks: Its not a scam from the ship. Its Texas law. Galveston is the worst port to cruise out of. If you left out of Florida, Mobile, or New Orleans, you can start drinking as soon as you board the ship. Taking longer cruises are better than short cruises... it didn't seem that you did much of your homework before cruising.
A good travel agent and some research prior to your cruise could have given you a much better experience. They dredge channels to allow ships to enter into shallow ports.
I second that on the TA. We had to cancel a Regent cruise in the Med for our 40th Annversary. We were in Cabo when my Partner cried uncle. A past hip surgery had cuaght up with him and the revision was less sucessful than expected. I say all of that to say that our travel agent had us insured properly. By that I mean thag we lost the 50% for cancellation as well as any port fees/taxes. The insurance payed about 98% of the other half. Still a loss, but so much begter for a little more in $.
1. You picked the least interesting itinerary 2. You picked the worst cruiseline 3. Drink package on other cruiselines start when you step on the ship. 4. Other cruiselines have no smoking casino and a designated outdoor area on top deck and outside lower deck. 5. You need to book as soon as itinerary is out, so you get a 5:00-5:30 dinner timeslot. 6. You booked wrong time of year. Weather is better April-July. (Galveston is worst for Hurricane Season) Even better time is when it is not a school break. 7. Buffet on other cruiselines is better. Other cruiselines have more Special Dining options. 8. Other cruiselines have more fun activiies. 9. Other cruiselines have started using LNG technology. 10. Sand stir??...that doesn't happen normally. 11. You do not have to dress up for diningroom. Other cruiselines have a Special Needs form for you to have special prepared meals. 12. Other cruiselines have an indoor solarium/pool area. FYI...my brother did Carnival and said would never cruise again. I told him to join me on Royal Caribbean, and he done 8 cruises in 3 years. He is hooked. We have done 34 with RC. We have tried HA, Princess, Celebrity, NCL ...still love RC.
The 1st night of drinks is 100% due to Texas law. It is ALL cruise lines that depart from Galveston. I live in FL and go on about 8 cruises a year and Texas departures is the only place you will have that because of the state law. It was not carnival trying to stick it to you.
Why did you select a cruise line and cruise that caters to the very demographic you don't want to be around (Joe Sixpack & his brood)? There are adults-only cruises. There are cruises that attract the middle-age and older folks. There are definitely non-smoking cruises, I've been on 3, there are cruises where there's more to do than drinking or gambling. You selected a cruise product that was opposite to your preferred style of travel, and then were shocked you didn't like it, were bored, didn't like the cafeteria/buffet style of dining? You got on a Chuckee Cheese cruise to Hell! This is on you, next time work with a travel consultant.
Never do this Cruise line. We researched more that a dozen cruise lines and found that Holland America would be more to our liking. Carnival is a party boat and lots of children. Nothing against partying or kids but we had our party days and raised kids. We wanted a more relaxed experience. Give it another try on Holland America or another more exclusive cruise line.
Guess I was lucky as my late MIL took us on a nice Alaskan cruise and later through the Panama Canal on the Regents ship. Didn’t like sea days, (sea sick) but the food was GREAT and our excursions was fantastic. If you ever get a chance a river cruise is awesome. We did Viking down the Rhine River.
@@ColoradoMartini we’ve cruised over 50 times and have found that our best experiences are in ships that are less hectic and have a classier feel and service overall including smoking areas and food quality too
@@ColoradoMartini Definitely look to Celebrity Cruises, especially for an exciting deals there because they have with those deals a luxury cruise experience for a price of budget lines like Royal Caribbean or Carnival, and also never look for Carnival again, they're really not good company just like all companies which are in one group with them, like Costa or P&O
If you ever want to try cruising again, research the different cruise lines before you pick. Except in the casino we never smell smoke on Holland America. We never buy the drink package because we don't drink enough to make it worth while. Our last cruise jad 9 ports in a row. We got so tired we needed a sea day to rest. We always do the dining room because dh has food allergies which the dining room can accommodate.
On Holland America if you have dietary requirements they give you the dining room menu for the next night and make whatever you choose to your restrictions. Holland America open seating dining works like a restaurant. You might have to wait for a few minutes but you will get seated. And in our experience if you are willing to sit with strangers you don't have to wait. Finally Holland America is criticized for their entertainment but they have more than you are describing.
You guys look like 2 Karen’s 🤣 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you guys sound like two crying old f**ts instead of traveling start looking for your adult daycare
Sorry you had a bad time, we've done 5 Princess cruises, Alaska, The Caribbean and Mexican Riviera. We loved exploring the islands in the Caribbean. Alaska is beautiful with all the glaciers. Back before covid you got to have anytime dining too. You either like it or hate it I think, my wife loved being treated like a queen, no cooking, no cleaning.😊
@ColoradoMartini inside passage is beautiful but if the clouds are down to the water, you dont get to see much. That happened on our first cruise, the next time it was clear and sunny.😀
I’m one who never wanted to go on a cruise, it’s just something I don’t think I’d ever enjoy (even if it was free 😂) I don’t drink, I don’t gamble and I don’t enjoy crowds 😂 I’d rather go to areas like Maine or Alaska and camp or hike whatever, but I’ll probably never make it to those places either 😂😂
@@ColoradoMartini that’s me, I’d rather be exploring the beautiful areas and taking in the local culture, the ship would just boring after the first day for me I’d expect 👍
As your travel agent I would have never booked you on one of theirs anyway. As well as about 80% of what you guys didn’t like would have never even been an issue on Royal and frankly just about any line besides carnival. Plus the drinks thing, again, totally a carnival thing. They are horrible. So sorry to hear this and sorry that carnival has again turned even more people off cruising totally. If you ever decide to give it another chance, let someone get this together for you so you can see how much fun they can be and for so much less. 🤗
This sounds like a terrible experience and all your reasons are good ones. I agree, the drink package is a ripoff. We've only been on two cruises but we never bought the package. I think a lot of it depends on the cruise line and the type of cruise. We went on an Alaskan cruise and they brought on local people for lectures and performances. They had local specialty foods - king crab etc. We were actually able to walk off the ports and go hiking but there certainly was tourist trap type shopping too. Thanks for sharing your experience.
The drink packages are a lot. We don't drink, so we didn't have that experience on the couple of cruises we went on. We didn't like eating in the dining room, due to the dress code, so we would spend extra eating in the specialty restaurants. Oh man, the shopping areas at the ports were the worst! On our trip to Hawai'i we had a couple as a representative for the cultural aspect of the islands, and they had a lot of shows and activitiesaboutthe islands. That really made a difference. Sorry you had such a terrible experience 😔
