What would you recommend for a trip that includes 5 days in Lucerne, 3 days in Grindelwald, 1 day in Chur and a trip in the Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano? During our stay we will visit a few small towns with Lucerne and Grindelwald as our base.

Hi, I am traveling with me (very elderly) mom and we can't walk for hours or do any trekking or anything like that. So scenery it's very important, I will rent a car and I would love to include some train (even if it's an excursion within a village) so we can enjoy the experience of great views (besides the ones from the car). We will be arriving from Portugal and we would like to see Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Grindelwald, Spiez, Zermatt, , Montreux, Neuchâtel, returning to Zurich (so I can return the car). Why is the map not showing me the driving route from Neuchâtel to Zurich? instead is making me go back down and up

I recently purchased a Swiss Travel Pass (second class) and have a few questions about using it: 1. For travel within major stations, like going from Lucerne to Kriens, do I need to purchase a separate ticket through the SBB app or at the station, or can I hop on the train with my Swiss Travel Pass? 2. When booking through the SBB app, do I select “GA Travelcard, 2nd class” under the "Travelcards for Switzerland" section in the passenger info? Is that the correct option for the Swiss Travel Pass? 3. For journeys where reservations are mandatory, like the Glacier Express, do I need to buy the ticket separately in advance? And if my reservation is in first class but my Swiss Travel Pass is for second class, can I upgrade to first class through the app or at the boarding station? I’d appreciate any insights or advice from those who have experience with this! Thanks!

Travelling to Geneva (mix work and leisure) last 2 weeks of August & will be my base all throughout. Planning to go out of Geneva 2 or 3 random days with 1 day for Interlakken/ Grindelwald and Lauterbraunnen (hope it's enough), other days maybe combine Zurich/Bern . Is it better to go for Day Saver Pass or Swiss Trave Pass (3 days)? Which can cover Glacier Express/Bernina or other scenic train at no extra cost? Thank you very much.
@SwitzerLanding
@SwitzerLanding 2 месяца назад
You have to calculate yourself which is better - I cannot tell you just from your desciption. See what those train trips cost on sbb, add them up, compare to STP 3 day flex (if you want 3 days flexible travel during your time) and look at day savers (probably not much sense tbh but you can check - as it locks you into a specific date and might not be cheaper per day than STP

@SwitzerLanding
@SwitzerLanding 2 месяца назад
@@joserommelborja1826 be careful focusing on the day save pass, it is only good if you are doing a lot in one day (more than the price of train travel). Also you need to understand that most mountains are not covered by that pass - it is for train/bus etc. not for mountains. So it makes sense for a long journey like the glacier express, but not for every day you are traveling. If you want to save money get a half fare card. www.swissrailways.com/en/buy-swiss-half-fare-card?affiliateId=402 this gives you 50% off most big mountains and all train /bus and cheaper day saver passes (when you need to use them)

Hello. I will be flying into Geneva next month ultimately to hike the TMB with a group but arriving two days early to take a train to Zermatt to do some hiking and hopefully see the Matterhorn. I am planning to purchase the swiss travel pass and wondered to ride railroads and lifts for getting to the Hornli Hut for example how do I purchase the tickets. Do I use the SBB Mobile App for example. Also does the travel pass serve as my train ticket to get to Zermatt and will it be scanned on the train. I also hope to ride the train to Gornergrat and wondered about how the tickets to that and other areas nearby are purchased.
@SwitzerLanding
@SwitzerLanding 3 месяца назад
The Swiss Travel Pass (STP) might be a bit of overkill price-wise for just getting to Zermatt. Consider the Half fare. Then you need the mobile app to buy tickets (you should download it anyway to see the timetables). The STP is your ticket and you will need to show it and a passport on the trains. As for gornergrat, that leaves opposite Zermatt station and you can buy a ticket there or book it online (google it). You get a discount as a STP or half fare holder.

I am British and have been going to Switzerland for holidays since 1971. I have been up the Jugfraujoch twice, but I will not go again. I call Jungfraujoch 'The Top Ripoff of Europe'. The price has shot up so much that it is just not value for money. There are other high mountain trips in Switzerland which cost far less for (in my view) better scenery. I would particularly single out the line from Zermatt to Gornergrat which currently costs (with Swiss Travel Pass discount) well under a hundred franks. That line is almost entirely in the open air, and the view from the top is almost 360 degrees. In the Berner Oberland area the cable car to Schilthorn goes almost as high as the Jungfraujoch.

@Fan652w
@Fan652w 4 месяца назад
This is generally a good video. But you should have stressed that where a mountain line (even a cable car or funicular) leads to a village, the line counts as part of the NORMAL transport system and the Swiss Travel Pass is valid. So you can get to villages like Wengen, Murren and Braunwald free with the STP. Lines which go to uninhabited locations are usually only 50% discount. However about twenty years ago the lines up Rigi decided to become free to STP holders. This has brought enormous business to the summit restaurants, and recently other purely mountain lines in the Lucerne area (Stanserhorn, Klewenalp, Stoos) have declared themselves free to STP holders. I hope other parts of Switzerland will get the message.
@SwitzerLanding
@SwitzerLanding 3 месяца назад
That is a very fine detail. But sure. I will remember for next time
@Fan652w
@Fan652w 3 месяца назад
@@SwitzerLanding The point that the Swiss Travel Pass will take you free to high lying villages is for the Swiss themselves a POINT OF PRINCIPLE. Swiss residents cannot buy a STP but roundly 430,000 of them buy the 'General Abonnement' annual season ticket for Swiss Public Transport. The current price second class is 3,990 Franks. The validity of the STP is modelled on the validity of the (much more long-standing) GA. Fairness requires that the GA can be used to all villages, whatever their mode of public transport, and the same therefore apples to the STP.

@@Fan652wsure. But for tourists. Which the stp is for it is not such a big deal. Jungfraujoch. Important. Pilatus. Important. Murren. Maybe. But the cost is minimal even if not included.
