Latitude refers to the north or south cardinal distance between 2 points and departure (not longitude) refers to the east-west cardinal distance between the same 2 points. Cosine bearing angle times distance equals latitude, N is positive, S is negative. Sine bearing angle times distance equals departure, E is positive, W is negative.

ask ko lang po, how did you came up po sa formula ng rule of thumb? may reference book po ba kayong pinagbasehan? or what is the theory behind this formula for it to be reliable po? i know both formulas naman po ay nagka-come up sa same answer, the only difference is from its origin and reliability. tia.
