Great to see this in action! Decades ago, when I was a little boy, I read about this in an old book my father owned called Little Railways Of The World.
Great video! This one gave me goosebumps. I grew up in St Thomas around 80-86 and my dad was a big train enthusiast/model railroader there. I'm not sure we were at this event but we did go to a lot of the Port Stanley ones in the early days. We lived on Dieppe Drive so I spent a lot of time at Pinafore with friends and rode the train there often as well.
Honestly I feel if they connected the tracks back together since there's like a 60 meters section with no track but if they connected it back to the talbolt sub I think a lot of people would ride the train from London to port Stanley or even st thomas
maybe i am an odball but i think most rail fans and even just diesel engine fans would pay to hear this in person . like have a yard full of old trains that you load test for show every day. i would visit that rail museum stay all day and pay 100 entrance fee happily .
We had 4 of those on our UP grain train out of des moines iowa headed to kc and 2 died south of Trenton Missouri and we couldn't make the hill up into polo. Went dead right there. Total junk these locomotives were. Electrical issues out the Wazoo
China gets all the best toys . would love to hear one in person but its a long way to go. its amazing to think such an american engineering project passing through london and then finding its destiny in the far east
That's because it's NOT a 2 cycle (thank you - EPA!!! Not!!)..... this one is the "new & improved" 1010J engine, that is the seriously upgraded version of the 265H.... which was plagued with piston issues. as well as computer control issues... especially when positioned as a "lead" unit.... they were fine in DPU positions, other then the ongoing piston failure issue's. They've resolved all those issues, with the new 1010J prime-mover.
