Taking the ordinary, and seeking its tune so it can sing.
If it is paper I will do something with it, print it, cut it, fold it, tear it, stamp it, heat it, paint it, ink it, spray it, write on it, draw on it, sometimes I even make it. Fabric comes a close second. But that doesn't stop me playing with other mediums too, you will see clay and wool, just about anything and everything.
LOVE this! I can see why you said you love it so much! Now I want to redo mine! Or just make myself one! Well done! You cracked me up at the beginning about the squirrel! 😂
So lovely, just the whole thing. I love and I’m so inspired by the half sheets and weaving them in the signatures. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us! Looking forward to a final flip through! (With Hot Beverage at hand 😆)
@favoritegigi5723 thank you Gigi, for joining in and commenting during the collaboration. I hope you will share your creation with us. Keep crafting kx
I absolutely love the staggering of the pages, wow, will definitely like to see the tab biding looks super nice to do.... A QUESTION plz.... can you do that binding with full pages as well??? I have wanred to do the elastic finishing of each section as the binding into the cover, this looks lovely, but now i am unsure i can do it for this #OctHygge2024 collaboration as i have already got my cover done and my spine in not like your one..... i have so enjoyed your entire process it has been really lovely to watch and learn from Thank youuuuu so much 😊⚘️👌
@judyventer7737 hi Judy, firstly thank you for watching and joining in this collaboration. I have really enjoyed your comments. To answer your questions. For an elastic binding you don't need to do a hidden spine, I just chose to. It must however be a nice stiff spine. I have made tn covers before out of thick leather (off cuts from upholsters), and for that I always make sure the TN's have thick card covers so it doesn't all become a squishy lump. Tab binding can be done on any size of page you just need to beware of where you place your hinges. You can use 5 hinges if you want to do narrow ones and 3 for thicker ones. If you are doing it for a whole signature, start at the inside and build up towards the outside. I will look at doing a smaller journal to demonstrate the technique and pitfalls better. I will also talk a bit more about it in my flip through. Happy crafting Kx
I am so in love with the way that you tore the signatures in half and have all the raggedy edges intertwined with each other. I love it so much! Despite your loss of files which I know is so frustrating, you did such a great job. I might make myself a cup of hot chocolate to celebrate with you as I watch your flip through when you do it. ❤️
@JodiLewisCreations wow, I am surprised you haven't done it. You will love it, once you get your head around it. It maybe a little ... ummm ... untidy at first. I purposefully did some of these pages at the squiff to demonstrate what happens and because in this journal that can work - but I lost that in the dissapearing footage and will re-explain on the flip through!
@@Kraftingkirstin I still cannot believe you lost the footage. I suppose that is one of the risks we have with filming! I have deleted segments before, on accident. It is so frustrating. I definitely have tab binding on my list.
i would like to learn more about tab binding. I've done it where you place a strip of fabric between each page, but the tab binding is new to me. Using elastic for the signatures is a good idea because it's a way to make it tight enough so that the signatures don't move around too much and yet because it's elastic, you can remove the signatures if you want to. I think you did a great job filming and thanks for taking the time to film during your vacation.
This is an excellent book cover. It is so interesting how the “look” of the holz fabric changed once you cut it down. From grunge to a kind of Monet feel.
@redparrot9489 one of the reasons I love that particular fabric so much is its chameleonic qualities, glad that particular thing came across as the fabric could have looked like an odd choice.
There is so much good information in this video! Thank you for the detail on the fabric corners. I seem to mess this but up a lot. The shank is also very informative. I have not done it, as it has intimidated me! No longer! I love your fabric choices! I cannot wait to see how you are going to bind this!
@JodiLewisCreations thank you! ☺️. I was hoping it wasn't information overload. I am so glad you no longer feel intimidated and look forward to seeing your results.
Thank you for sharing how to cut the corners as i always have my corners showing.... love the fabric 🐿 and love the entire process, i was wondering how to do a new spine if the covers work but the original spine is not the correct width... my only question is when doing the inside covers with fabric and you have folded over the corners .. does it not becone to thick when you glue it down? Like i said in Wednesdays comment i love recycling old books. 😊 thx for today's post 🎉
Thank you for your comment Judy. I might had edited out the bit when I said, you can only to the folded over method when you have thin fabric, like cotton - the fabric I did my printing on. For thicker fabrics, like the foxy material, you need to cut your corners. Sorry for not leaving it in, but thank you for asking, in case others where also wondering. If I was then going to sew into my spine, I wouldn't use this method, this is really for a hidden spine. If you want to sew in the spine a new spine I would use an amazon bag or some other thick paper bag cover with the fabric and then put that in place. I hope that makes sense. I will do a journal cover that way some point next month.
“Another episode of hot chocolate magic!” 😂❤ Thank you for sharing how to make the magic hot chocolate! I love the idea of using the covers for each signature! The ribbon is beautiful on the page edges. I have really enjoyed this collaboration!😊
I guess I'm in good company ... I haven't finished my signatures, didn't make any embellishments yet, & now I have to work on a cover. But I plan to have the journal done by the end of the month. Love your covers. Hugs from Ireland.
@@createwithpamela thanks Pamela. 😊 You go at your speed, enjoying the process is more important than finishing in a time frame. Hugs back at ya from Scotland.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your journal making. Having fun is the most important thing. Even if it takes until next October we would still love to see your progress and finished journal over in the Facebook Groups 😃
@KreativPaperArtisan thank you, I was too ambitious for a 4 video journal, but the paper speaks, the squirrels whisper, and off I go chasing after them. 🤣
This was an absolutely lovely tutorial, picked up so lovely tips with the ribbon trim... and wow on the hot chocolate with Lindt 70% definitely going to try that one!!! I have made two signatures so your idea has helped with covers within the cover, thank you!! 😊😊 Oooh and so looking forward to friday to see how u have done the outside cover.... 😃👍⚘️👌
I am really looking forward to seeing your final on this. I am loving seeing it come together. Vanilla Almond milk, unsweetened is what I use. They just add vanilla flavor to it. I mostly use it for coffee. On the rare occasion that I eat cereal, I use it for that as well.
Well I learned that THERE IS A HEXI PUNCH!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 … also you have a VERY yummy selection of art supplies and paints. (From a previous video … still covet those holz crayon things. 😍)
@redparrot9489 I think that punch must be at least 15 years old , one edge of it is quite blunt. It has taken me a long time to gather my supplies, and I am growing increasingly fussy over what I will give house room to 🤣
I love those leaves. Foundry Wax… Mark is sleeping in. I said ooohhh out loud and excitedly! Hopefully, I haven’t disturbed him! The beer mug into a cocoa mug is brilliant!! You edited out calling me dangerous! 😂😂😂😂
@JodiLewisCreations 🤣🤣🤣 the dangerous was in the rescue intro which I ended up not needing. I knew you would get excited about foundry wax, just knew it 🤣
