Hey guys and welcome to the channel. I decided to start a how-to channel of sorts on youtube with my friends sharing knowledge and helping others because I don't have anyone else to share it with anymore. You see, my daughter Haley passed away about 6 months ago. She was my shop shadow, always absorbing knowledge and doing projects with me as we both would cut up doing funny characters and just having a good time. One of the hardest things has been working alone and not being able to share things with her. I thought maybe if I started to share some of my projects with you guys it would possibly inspire others and help them to take on these tasks. In some way it still feels like she is with me in the studio and helping you guys! If you want to drop a buck to help with production patreon.com/freedonkeyrides and we are building a merch store soon! Keep on wrenching guys! Oh yeah, and girls too!

Where did you get the side pioneer panels and the tailgate
@Freedonkeyrides

The tailgate I built and the panels themselves are old Big Red bedsides. I had custom decals made for them but other than that it’s how they come.

Hey thanks for the comment. It’s really a lot of work to do a good video on “how to” and I just did not have the time to do all the editing for this one. I thought this would give others some helpful ideas on building one for themselves though. Shoot, even just taking pictures and documenting all the steps and things before then putting this video together took quite a bit of time. In case you did not know, this is a free video. I don’t make a single penny from any of this. I’m just trying to do my part in sharing the little I know. 👍

I have had my 2018 since 2019. Its a yard mule. When we go to Arizona in the winter, it is our transportation. I have run 40 with a good tail wind. On the street it goes to the limiter all the time. On trail, I drive like a grandad. On the homestead, I cant believe I haven't pooed something the way I abuse it pulling loads. This was an awesome video series. In the end, I would never do to that much work for 10 mph. But I'm glad you guys did.

Old vids, but have you, or do you know of anyone that has "fixed" the auto downshift on the 500? Many of us want to get rid of the auto shift on manual mode, and make it truly manual shift.

Yea, I’m sorry I have not put up anything in a bit. I was having a great time doing powersport videos but they take so much time to edit and put together! Life gets so hectic finding free time for FDR is hard. I’m trying to set up a goal to get back into the makeshift studio. When I get comments from folks it reminds me that I’m actually helping someone so I really do appreciate the comment! I have heard a bit about the downshift thing but I have not really looked into it. I’m sorry I don’t have a good answer for ya. Hope you have a great Holiday Season. 👍

Definitely a lot nicer than what Honda offers! The weight would be the only thing concerning as the tail is only rated for 450 lbs.
@Freedonkeyrides
@Freedonkeyrides 11 месяцев назад
You know at this point I really think Honda does that for legal reasons and so they can also sell their "Bigger and Better" models. Just to let folks know about the weights though the factory rack and fenders is about 37 lbs. This bed completed was 62lbs and the gate (I far overbuilt) was 31lbs so there is about 50-60lbs more weight in this setup over the rack but that rack rides way up high on top of the fenders so anything you load up is UP there. The bed mounts much closer to the frame so your load has been lowered. In addition most people put a heavy steel basket on top of that factory rack. Thats not only getting you closer to this weight but also its a steel basket riding way up high. The only thing I can find wrong with the mod is how much time I spent doing it! LOL Thanks for the comment, it really was a good one!

Top Speed was at 48mph. Our stock GPS top speed was 37-38mph. I’m really glad you enjoyed the videos! We have a lot more good stuff in the works just trying to get it finished up. I tried to set up some simple tests to give everyone a better idea of how it pulls through the gears more and has incredibly better cruise speed without really sacrificing much if anything.

And what is your opinion the MT21? Thank you
@Freedonkeyrides
@Freedonkeyrides 2 года назад
You know, I feel like all over the Internet there are people giving opinions on things that they have no real basis to be able to give opinions on. If I had never had a cheeseburger before, I’d tell you a Mc D burger Is the best ever! This is part of why I did not want to give an opinion in the video but if asked I’ll give ya my initial 2 cents. The tread does feel hard, like it’s going to have a decent street lifespan for a fairly aggressive tire so take that into consideration. Long street miles I don’t have yet so I can’t give you much there but the little I’ve tried to lean on them (on the street) they feel great! Relatively great, don’t expect a Dunlop 17in race slick coming into a corner but they gave me a somewhat similar street confidence level of a Bridgestone Trail Wing 301 and a 301 is definitely a lesser tire off road in my opinion. I lowered the pressure down another couple PSI on these Ps and they really seemed to grip pretty well and that’s what I was trying to show on the video. The simple crash was 100% my fault. It goes from a loose soil to a hardpack and I tried to get the back tire to bite when I should have hit that corner flat track style! Very happy with the tires. If there were one thing I could change it would be the pricetag but come on we all wish things were cheaper or we had more money right! LOL. The bikes suspension on the other hand (if you’re trying to push it really hard) leaves much to be desired but again everything is relative! Im VERY impressed with the bike for the money Honda is asking for it! We will for sure have suspension mods on this build though. I see the bike in your profile. I just put a set of Roval wheels on my hard tail and have not turned them into a taco yet so pretty impressed. Yes I ride a hard tail go ahead pick on me, I’m used to it. 😆 (I live on the gulf coast no real MTB terrain like out west) Anyway, thanks for the comment. I do hope you enjoy the video. 👍👍

@@Freedonkeyrides thank you for your feedback. I have a Mitas E09 on the front and i feel the profile is too round and feel that it wants to run away from me on the dirt corners. Have you tried the Mitas? Do you believe a more square profile will be better on dirt cornering? Thanks!
@Freedonkeyrides
@Freedonkeyrides 2 года назад
@@koalaboyTT It really depends a lot on the bike and the type of dirt you are riding on. Normally a smaller, softer block will get better traction in a soft dirt but on the street you will regret it. Every tire is going to be better at some things and worse at others so you have to find that one that works for you AND the bike you have. I have not ridden on the E09 but I have seen them in person and they look decent. Have you tried lowering the pressure some when you ride off road?

@@Freedonkeyrides yes, went down to 1bar. The tyre itself is quite hard, not very flexible. I am portuguese and did cross the country OffRoad on my dr650 with those tyres and the only complaint was that. The ground was mostly hardpack, sometimes with some loose over hardpack.
