@@user-ox6nc6ly7f Well, for low power devices that might be usefull. But the losses over those diods might be too high. And usually people do not make this mistake...and if they do, it is their fault overall.
ROFL, that's one way to cause a dead short!! The circuit breakers did their job! Although it's only ELV there's some serious current there that could of caused a fire should a CB welded shut. Now all your CBs will have carbon build up in the arc chute IMHO. Personally I'd change them all, have a video of mine junking an AC RCBO v=V9oIUJZfWK4 . If you did this to AC mains voltage everything metal in the house would become live, I'm a formally trained electrician with over 20+ years experience and there's whole test procedure instead of doing the classic DIYer "bang test". Just a heads up typically it's a visual, continuity then polarity check before energising. You got some balls to put your mistake up online and I don't mind people doing DIY work as long as it's done properly.
Thanks! I might open those circuit breakers up and check them...would be interesting. It might look DIY, but I am doing this work professionally...this is the first time, something like that happend to me...and I just wanted to share that...I am sure some viewers will check twice now when installing their systems
@@Raphael_Hofmann My example video was worst case, but those DC CB's are cheap for piece of mind. The gear I work on will hurt people or blow up in your face if not done following test procedures. Professionals always know the risks and test accordingly IMHO.
That is such a Newbie mistake ....... I am an auto technician and i have been in the business for over 25 years ..... My specialty is Electrical Diagnosis ! The first thing i learned and taught myself is Never ..... I REPEAT "NEVER " use the wire color as a polarity !! So people could have the red wire that is B+ and then they put black electrical tape on it and then it is now black from a simple insulation procedure ..... With a setup like you have there obviously you look like you know what you are doing but with a simple mistake as that , You are lucky you have the protection you do or you would have burned your house down ..... Lastly the BMS will not trip as long as there is a "DEAD SHORT" or Reverse of Polarity that is the first main thing in line to trip then the BMS should in case there is a smaller short or spike .
Yes, very stupid mistake...but I still thought it would be nice to show what can happen...I might do a video on only this toppic and all the protection mechanisms and how good they work.
It's surprising you made this mistake when the cables are so clearly marked. In my airstream rebuild project I'm finding some problems with colour coding; many appliances use red for positive and black for negative, others use black for positive and white for negative. A few use green for ground, while the trailer marker lights use green for positive. There are some brown switch wires on some devices, while brown is used for turn signals in the truck/trailer harness. If I make a mistake I will excuse it to lack of standardized systems being out of my control. When i do power up for the first time maybe I'll undersize the fuses to make for a fast cutoff lol.
Well, I did not even thing twice...I was was tired after work and just wanted to get this done fast. Not my best work. But at least I could show, that those protection mechanism work.
It is not necessary to do any change...I have multiple Inverters in the field that work just fine and nobody complained...this device is just not ment to be used next to your livingroom...but in some rare cases, you don't have the right space for it and for those people this Video is made.
Thank you for your video. I discovered the noise of the Multiplus II. A bit of bad surprise... Do you think the 140mm Noctua could be install instead of the 120mm ?
It should fit, but you have to build your own frame. By the way, the Noctua fan is not actually that much weaker. So it almost matches the Victron Fan when maxed out...just at 12V it was a bit weaker. Most important is the foam between the fan and the case. Even the Jamicon fan is not too bad, if you insert some foam to detach it from the case.
I do not know, which chips they are using...if anyone can decode the EEPROM dump, and you are able to write your own version on the EEPROM, it might work.
@@legominimovieproductions Yea...I know the problem...In stationary systems without vibration, I do not use those cable glands at att on the 50mm² or 70mm² DC cables.
My solution was to blank off all the vents at the bottom left and divert the air evenly around the transformer. When the Multiplus is charging it gives out a lot of heat and air was recirculating through those vents back up the right hand side via the terminal box at the bottom. As the relays don't need cooling, they are not affected. The improvement is very noticeable as the front cover is way cooler. Thanks for the tips and now I will check my firmware.
What if…. We would replace the fan with a Phantek T30, which is about one of the best 12mm PC fans on the market when I should believe all reviews. The big question would be, if it beats the original fan in creating a similar airflow with less noise that the original Victron fan. It beats the Noctua in PC cooling conditions. When we assume Victron chose the stock fan for the right amount of airdisplacement in certain conditions the Noctua may not be the best replacement. Although it may suffice depending on the environment the multi is used in. Who would vote for a review like that ? And would it be worth a beer or a cup of coffee ?
I had a closer look at the datasheets and converted the units: Air Flow: Nocuta: 186.7 m³/h, Jamicon: 187.89 m³/h Static pressure: Nocuta: 7.63 mm H₂O, Jamicon: 8.13 mm H₂O So the difference at full speed is not that big... I will try to make a follow up video...
@@Raphael_Hofmann Hi, If those numbers are correct, the Noctua and Jamicon move more air then the Phantek T30: 120 x 120 x 30 mm 1200/2000/3000 (+/- 5%) RPM via three modes 39.1/67.0/101 CFM (66.4/114/172 m³/h) 11.1/27.3/39.7 dBA 1.27/3.30/7.11 mm H₂O 4-pin/PWM control 0.05/0.13/0.36 A peak Assuming you used the nfa12x25 I found this: Rotational speed (+/- 10%) 2000 RPM Rotational speed with L.N.A. Inside the victron is has more room I guess. Looking forward to the follow up. Tnx. Mike
Hi, Good video. A less powerfull fan may prove a somewhat hotter inverter at some point and thus a shorter lifespan. Seeing the inside of the inverter this way I wonder if some other better cooling method may even be more effective. Victron never designed these devices for sleeping next to them. I have to say, the rattling sound made me thing I had a faulty fan. The firmware, foam and rubber plugs are a great solution. I guess I would try rubber rings on the fanscrews to the chassis also as there may be some contact noise there also. All in all, a lot of improvement is possible in terms of sound reduction. We have to keep fireresistance in mind I think. In an other Video someone placed 2 extra fans below the inverter as well. I guess the fan speed is temperature controlled, so having an overall airflow thru the unit may help. I am even playing with the idea of connecting them to the ventilation system of the house, so that air is always running thru the units. It will collect much more dust I assume. Anyway, good video.
@@NaamNatuurlijkniet Just found a very detailed discussion in the Victron Community: community.victronenergy.com/questions/46137/victron-multiplus-ii-485000-noisy-fan-replacement.html
Helpful video. However I concur with the comment about fitting any fan that is less powerful. As well as a Multiplus 48v/5000 I also have a Quattro 48v/10000 which work together for EV charging off-grid. Even in the UK the summer temperatures were warm enough for me to have to fit external high flow fans to both inverters to ensure adequate cooling.
I used the graphs available through the Victron software to assess the problem. Before I fitted the 'bilge blower' type of fans the Multiplus 3000 kept cutting out whilst it was running continuously at 2250W even at +8degC. The Quattro normally coped because or was running at about 50% power. The Multiplus 3000 was checked under warranty but no faults could be identified. Contrary to specification Victron inverters struggle to give continuous rated output at the quoted +25degC. I upgraded to the Multiplus 5000 and with the bilge blowers using internally mounted sensors and the inverter relays, the software could be used to decide when to switch the fans on. I used 100mm circular ducting with a rectangular adapter under each inverter. No problems since even at +33degC OAT.
@@Raphael_Hofmann Hours of charging at 7.2kw in summer does seem to challenge the Victron specs. To keep the MPPT controllers from capping performance I also fitted pairs of 90mm centrifugal computer fans under each MPPT. Otherwise they could get too hot to touch when PV output and OAT are high. They are noisy but as this is in a hangar I don't care too much about the noise.
Be very careful fitting a weaker fan - taking 25% off the fan power could cause premature faliure and I can't imagine you'll be getting a warranty replacement. People are always fitting noctua fans to things and going oooh its so quiet - yes it is as you'r running your unit 30% hotter than it was.... :/
The MultiPlus-II does not only regulate the fan speed on a fixed Load-Fanspeed-curve. It is also regulated on temperature. And if the internal temperature gets too hot, it is derating its output power to protect itself. From my experiance, running this configuration in Germany, it never gets too hot, even with the Noctua Fan installed. Especially in a ESS-System, when the output power is limited to 4.3kW.
In most cases the Noctua fans are quieter AND push more air than the cheap fans … you could use the industrial fans if you live in hot climate … so no idea where you are coming from when talking about „people always …“
waw great hack,i own the ut210d and after entering to calibration mode by pressing select button and hold button doesnt work well,do you know if there is any way to hard reset or something? thank you
That might be a useful detail for people who have the UT210D. Thanks for this comment! As far as I know, there is no way to hard reset. And even if you do that, you loos all the calibration values from the factory. So it is best to save a copy of your EEPROM dump before you do any modifications.
Already commented on your other video but you misunderstand what is happening. Your document is not valid, you applied for it but they didn't yet delivered it. If your authorization were approved you should have gotten a temporary recipe, like they give for ID Cards or Resident Permits. In the first encounter, when you said let's go to the police station they know me, what he was assuming is that you already have an arrangement with them (you bribed them). In that case he can do whatever he want the police is above him, he won't get anything. They will scold him and tell him to let you go. The civilians are the Urban Community they're not police, they're only allowed to check vehicles paperwork and that your vehicle is in order, not your travel documents. The police (and any police, I don't know what a commenter meant by "traffic police", if it has a uniform, you comply) and gendarmerie can ask you for any documents even your vaccination card. Dude, every checkpoint tell you that this specific document is not valid. In the second encounter the police officer is asking you, nicely, where did you apply for that document but you don't understand anything and can't respond. Some are trying to help you because the origin of the scam is your document, it is not valid. The person who told you it's ok to drive with that lied to you, they want to know who told you that it's ok to drive with that because that person scammed you. They have every right to tow your moto and if you weren't white they would do it. They usually don't seek trouble with foreigners, your document is just not valid and you can't grasp that. And yes, they're scarred once you grab your phone or tell them you have an arrangement with someone above them because that's how it works in Cameroon, it doesn't mean you're the good guy in that situation.
You don't have any document allowing you to drive, what you have is a handwritten request you made to apply to get the document. What you paid is an administrative stamp and maybe some file processing fee. That's what they explain to you, you have to wait for the document, then you can drive. Nobody care that you're not staying and don't have time to wait for it. Until you have it you take a cab or go by foot. And yes, you will be checked, every day, at every checkpoint, but if your documents are in order they won't seek for trouble. I've never had any issue. I don't know what document you're missing, if it's your international driver license or simply an Autorisation de Circuler (Driving Authorisation). If it's the Autorisation de Circuler like they said, be aware that the model of moto you have is considered a moto-taxi, they're forbidden in Yaounde Center, you need a special authorization to drive them there. You should also check if you're allowed to take passengers on them. If you had a different model (not the benskin like) or a scooter, you probably wouldn't be in trouble. I suspect it's the model of the moto (assuming you have an international driving license) that need an authorization, which you have not. The person who told you that you're allowed to drive with your handwritten document lied to you. If you told them that you have to leave soon and don't have time to wait for the document, they probably pocketed the cash knowing you won't come back and told you it's ok.
Yes, 50000XAF is to high...! You should have given them their 984XAF (ROUND IT UP TO 1000XAF FOR EASE OF PAYMENT) when they stopped you the First Time...! Everybody expects bribe in Africa and white people are not exempt, Ok..! You cannot change Africa..!🤔🤔
They just want a Bribe, it is not much money when you convert it..! It's about (1) Euro (50) Cents, they collect this from everybody, white people are not exempt...! So just pay them and be done with it..! 🤔
@@Raphael_Hofmann this is very terrible that they van do this right outside in public and asking for money, most of them can't read so they are just looking at the paperwork pretending like they know English..
Wait but why do you have to pull over for the idiots without any police uniform? Are they really policemen or officials just wearing no uniform? I would just keep driving.
I did that a couple of times as well...but one time, 3 guys jumped on the road and lifted my back tire off the street. I was furious....after checking the documents I could go.
Ive been to west africa it qas NOTHING like this sheesh we drove as we please but this guy cant go 4 feet without aome guy in streeetclothes telling him to pull over
For a ride of 20min with the bike, it can take 3 hours with the car...sometimes the traffic is just too dense to get anything done efficiently. That is why I ride a Motocycle here.
I cant wait to see the officers retire in front of the media. If you want to know who I am, I am traveling to Afrika 2 times a year. I love the place. But I also dont travel solo, I have the Afrikans with me.... heeeeey they tell these people.... I cant even write it
