NOTE: to users of Microsoft on Macintosh. If you are running Microsoft products on Mac while you are trying this in Illustrator and your text is consistently being converted to outlines EVEN with "convert to outlines" unchecked, try quitting all Microsoft products and Illustrator. Restart Illustrator (without launching any Microsoft apps) and try again. After doing that I was able to split lines as is shown in the video. If it works for you, complain to Microsoft. It's their stupid product making problems.
