instead of music, it would be far better to hear your narration as we could see you talking. no detail on the mixture you used or time period you left it for. not very helpful. did you trim the plant down after planting?
I am pruning my 17 year mature holly trees and air layering for the first time. I am choosing new growth in the spring for the specimen of layering that are low or waist high for convenience of monitoring. BUT I am also pruning the mature trees and removing long out reaching limbs at higher heights. After watching your sweet lemon tree content, I ask ARE THOSE mature out reaching limbs BETTER to air layer? I am going to remove them any way and the diameter of many are quite large like this limb you chose to air layer. I realize now, that using those larger limbs provides a true 17 year growth advantage doesn't it? You ended up with a 5' lemon tree. AMAZING!
Thanks for watching , yes i advise you do so , i have recently air layered the entire tree from the main trunk and its working , the advise i can give you that use my method , and use enough soil because if there is not enough soil in the plastic then there is no place for the roots to develop , i wish you all best and let me know if you have other question
The video is good but the success rate of any airlayering is only 10% because of the young & very soft and tiny Roots They die after sometime due to the plant excess load or pressure on it .The real theory is that there should be only 30% plant left, the 70% would be cut before planting a airlayering. So, only 10% airlayerings succeed.
Thanks for watching and your comment , in my experience actually the success rate is very high almost every air layering i did was successful .this video that you watched made almost 8 years back and the it became very tall and big tree . i did over 100 air layering and although most of them was in dubai with very hot wether and although the relocating time normally it will happened in April or may but yet it succeeds. i agree with you that most of the videos shown in youtube and other media is not focusing in the technique , mostly it is to get more view , for this reason in my idea most of technique are not good and results in week and thin roots , because there is not enough soil in the contact with air layering section , also in some videos they use water , these are good for small branches not big one . in my technique i use free size plastic so depending on the size of trunk i will increase the size of plastic and add more soil . also because it is transparent you can wait and see when the roots are thick enough and then cut the branch . i will soon post air layering i did almost 3 month back and it was to relocate the whole tree and it is already planted in temporary pot last week and is started growing , i will post the video soon . thanks again
Excellent concept and demonstration. Looks like you could use some sharper tools though. I'm also curious why you removed the distal foliage from the root or host tree. I'm lovin' it!!!
Thank you for this. I have a three year old ever-bearing tree that isn't that big, but too tall for me to get to the higher branches, about 14' off the ground. This is the best idea I've seen. There doesn't seem to be a commercial tool for the job. This is easy. Gotta go get myself some PVC pipe.
