AF-P 70-300mm is great one to start with, super sharp, cheap as chips used (esp. the DX version). Fast it is not but the VR is one of the best I've used and the transmission is excellent. I've shot it successfully in fairly low light and it's a lot more capable than the specs would have you believe. The DX version of the lens will work fine on FX cameras too: just crop two sides to get a square aspect ratio image. And it's a keeper no matter what else you get later on because it's a featherweight champ of convenience.

200mm is 200mm. You can't make it 300mm because it is on a crop body. You get a field of view of 300mm but it is still 200nm. 😅
@zetacrucis681
@zetacrucis681 18 дней назад
you get the reach of a 300mm, which is what really matters. that and that you lose a stop of DR / low-light performance. the subject separation / bokeh nonsense is fairly unimportant. You get plenty at 200mm even with at slower apertures.

Great review… I’m always curious when photographers say things like “if it were an f4 it would be bigger, heavier, more expensive”… sure but how much more; a few extra ounces and a couple hundred dollars? Currently selling at a 20-25% discount in the used market just 2 years after its release date says a lot. And idk why the rationalization when you have a 300 f2.8 & 600 f4 for obvious reasons, even if you need to stop them down in some situations. More than anything it’s a psychological barrier. Less than one full stop faster than the 100-400 or 180-600, why pay more for less flexibility and marginal IQ bump? Only 2/3 stops faster than the zooms just makes it a tough sell. Somewhere in the $2,000-$2,250 ballpark and it’s looking attractive…

@@TomMasonPhoto interesting. I found it too inconvenient to change lenses too much. I usually have 3 bodies with 500mm and 300mm glued to main two. The third is split between 90mm 1.4 and wide angle in darker conditions and 80-200 and wide angle during the day.
@TomMasonPhoto
@TomMasonPhoto 2 месяца назад
@@howareyou5899 Yes I did also have three bodies - the D850 on the 300mm 2.8, the D5 on my 35mm 1.4 most of the time and then the Z6 on the 70-200 for a lot of the trip, although swapping to my 24-70 as well.

I bought my BV-20K last month and am using it on a Gitzo GT4553S. I mount my ZV-E1 on it with the 200-600mm powered via a Vmount battery to film the wildlife of the lake near my home 😉👍

great video, I have one of the gitzo vintage replica tripods {GK2380VQR}, with the GH2780VQR ball head, works great, small and have used it with my H1 and 300mm lens, but YES, do want the 4 series systematic now, the size of that ball head, really what I need for MF and long lenses. I shoot mainly architecture, landscape and seascapes, the long lens work is just for details, from afar, not wildlife, but still a great recommendation, as You are the first to actually mention MF in regards to capacity, THANKS.
