People think that Maisy was covered up by the Yanks within days of being taken. Utter rubbish. Were that true, Gary Sterne's hope of finding lots of relics would have been realised. Reality was the locals stripped EVERYTHING out of the site before it was covered over.
If it is not too much trouble, can you provide a source as to what "pro-Imperialis company" owns the Yokaren and Yasukuni museums because I have not been able to find any sources revealing that they are owned by a specific company, only the Shrine in Tokyo?
If you search in japanese, you will find several documents and court cases about it. Even just searching Neo-nazi shrine tokyo on YT will show you several videos of these guys speaking at there location.
In Poteau there is a little museum. But the great part there is, for 20€, you can ride along in a 251, a route along old battlefield remains. Really cool
I've been on Dog Green in 2015 and I waded out to my hips. The beach in the movie is nothing like the real thing geographically. It's several football fields from the dunes and bluffs to even knee high water. Everyone including obstacles appeared too bunched up in the film. The landings occurred at low tide. I visted somewhere around mid-tide, and yet the massive scale of the beach was very far from accurate. The beach in the film looked like a beach at Martha's Vinyard. Most inexcusably, the log ramp obstacles all faced the wrong direction. I'm guessing the set designer just built it and once Spielberg saw it he didn't have time to correct it.
Considering Spielberg likes to make changes to his movies years after they came out, it’s weird he never went back to fix Blythe’s story, at least that title card. And it wouldn’t have cost anything.
We need a Band of brothers style 10 episode mini series about the Rangers, seeing Omaha beach, Pointe du hoc, and of course hill 400. A historically accurate story that tells the entire invasion of Europe from the perspective of the Rangers, from the landing at Omaha and Pointe du hoc all the way to the final days of the war.
Same difference...and it would obviously appear to be the case to some...even if he got the dynamics wrong. Not much point in this...The movie showed the horror of war quite well.
The last scene at the cemetery - I always thought - would the audience think he had 'earned it' if his daughters were obese - rather than attractive and blond...
I find it funny that you complain about the over saturation of Omaha Beach. Yet, here you are again..?? Omaha is popular due to the USA fixation on how WE WON THE WAR in Europe all by ourselves. Also thanks to Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Steven Ambrose. Winners of the Medal of Honor.
Nonsense, if that was the case then Dog Green with be overrun with tourists and it's always pretty normal down there. Longues sur mer is also overrun with tourists, pretty much ruined and that has nothing to do with America.
Just came across this. Thank you for the technically correct explanation. Most people don't realize that machine guns and area-suppression weapons are intended to fire from the flanks (as opposed to head-on) in order to maximize the chances of hitting advancing targets. Translation for civilians: It's easier to spray bullets from the side at targets passing in front of you than it is to aim at individual targets heading straight towards you.
While assigned to Germany in 2008-2012, I was able to do a tour of all US landing locations, and Omaha beach was one of them. I was a bit perplexed when I didn't see the bunkers and beach areas like the film projected. I also, got to see all the grave stones, and my tour guide actually had us visit the German cemetery about 20miles from Normandy cemetery. I had a bit upset to see the condition of the cemetery and learned that it's up to the counrty to fund the cemetery maintenance, but really I see America's control of the message. Now, the German soldiers did their part, right or wrong from the leader, but never penalize the soldier for crappy leaders. They went out and fought for the countries beliefs. There weren't any Nazi members in the regular German soldiers cemetery
A couple Lies about Bunkers Egh Presentation Mostly Incredible Trivia Information Based on Beautiful Historical Archives Amazing Details Great Examples Fairly Good Work
Misses The most Important Ahistorical Note: Site’s too Small Not just shortened Hillside Posts The Entire Beach Is too Smol That’s the Central cause of the Compactness And the Shots
Hey ! I know this video is a couple of years old but do you mind sharing the sources of the pictures you got there from Wn 73 ? I looked at the description there are only sources related to tanks. Those are awesome pictures and I would love to track them down for a personal project
The extensive efforts of the Germans, to conceal the beach defenses, would go a long way to explain why the pre-landing aerial bombing was so ineffective in damaging them.
I saw a tiger 1, who went this tank ? I don't saw the number on the turett ? we had two tigres in France, one outside is very damaged, the second is in restored in museum , motor is broken
So much stuff that it's almost to where it looks like a hoarders collection in certain areas. Such a shame too like you were talking about at the start.
@@PanzerPicture Definitely! It's a bit of a disgrace that such little parking is available. There must have been so many people that have kept going because there weren't any parking spots. I could spend all day looking at that collection. Money needs to be spent to fix the parking and the museum. It could be amazing!
Even though the Germans lost the war, it seems they won the post war military vehicle popularity contest!! 🤔 Are there any allied vehicles that run and are put on display?
