Did Magoo say Wi-Fi ? In 1956!!! Great stuff! Jim Backus and Dennis Farnon taking this way beyond a kiddie record. Documents a past when people (99% males!) cared about hi-fi equipment. The instrumental sections were released on cd on the Basta label.
I thought Bread And Jam For Frances was only a the name of a Switchblade Symphony album but know I know it was actually a book for children....gothic people are wierd....
No offense to Jim Henson Inc., Disney, and the Muppets but the Ritts Puppets (or, shall we say, RUPPETS?) Rock! Too bad they disappeared long ago from the public eye. I know most all of the Ritts's may be dead by now but when that 2011 Disney Muppets w/Amy Adams came out I secretly wished for Amanda Seyfried [if not Amy Adams HERSELF] to come out with a "Ritts Puppets" flick![Of course Amy Adams would be promoting the rivals!] LOL. I recall the excellent Better Business Bereau ads from 1973-78. Every time I hear a reference on radio to the BBB I always fondly recall Abdominable, Magnolia, Flamingo and the others. Just one last thing: What did Jim Henson say about them, or did he ever hang out with the Ritts's? Finally. They were on the 1972-73 NBC season of the Pink Panther.
Super cool! Thanks for sharing this audio gem! I wanted to buy this record as a kid but my parents thought horror stories were bad for kids! That made me love them even more. Well after many decades of wanting to hear this again a big THANK YOU!!!!!
What a cool old disc! This is real early Dennis. They left the hair uncolored for only a short while. Then the yellow filled the area from eyes up to the top of his head.
Precious. And that's the way I remember Molly Bee. I was a big fan of her's and watched Hometown Jamboree a lot. She had her own show for a while which I watched on Sundays. Our family went in person to see her tape her show one Sunday. I got to meet her. A gracious person, a gifted entertainer. She deserved to succeed, and she accomplished that.
I had this record when I was a kid and nearly wore it out playing it for over 10 years! It is actually the soundtrack from an unsold TV pilot for NBC-TV titled "ADVENTURES IN SPACE" made in 1958, when this soundtrack album was released. I would love to have this on a CDR!
I treated myself to the 45 the other day, in the cardboard sleeve. (EPA 1-1362). It was from Record Lane, Lowell-Lawrence, presumably Massachusetts. I paid 27 cents for it! Second best two bits I ever spent.
I had this when I was a kid too. I was singing this song to my kids and grandkids today try to remember the words and then found this on RU-vid this is awesome thank you for putting it together
Thank you for uploading this. I've been looking for it for ages. The record I had growing up had this story on one side and Kate Smith telling the story of Johnny Appleseed on the other side. This was always my favourite though! Who doesn't love Celeste's tune?!
"THE HECTOR HEATHCOTE SHOW" was on NBC's Saturday morning schedule in the 1963-'64 season, featuring Hector {"The Minute and a Half Man", who always got mixed up in one historical event after another}, Sidney the elephant, and Hashimoto, the Japanese mouse. For this album, soundtracks from those cartoons were used- this one, "Cherry Blossom Festival", was also released theatrically in 1963. Tom Morrison, story editor of "Terrytoons" and the voice of Mighty Mouse, is the opening narrator.
Haven't heard it since "Children's Favourites" on the old BBC Light Programme ! Something I saw today triggered the memory so I put it in the search box and bingo ! This came up first. Thank you very much !
This is brilliant... I'm too young to have know anything about it but what a recording! ....very technical production too. :) Nice one. I'm going to check out other Tex Ritter material.
I had this record when I was a kid. It had a scratch in it, and would play "red birds green birds red birds green birds" over and over. I can still remember learning from this record that it would take 3 weeks to count to a million.
