Great tip for sliding the micrometer over instead of reseting and repositioning the micrometer for A to B taper measurment. I have a question regarding to out of round measurment on crank pin journal, isn't it (A + B measurment) - (C + D measurment) = out of round measurment?

Preferably you want to align the dial indicator shaft as straight to ring gear tooth as possible. Leaning it over that far may give you a slightly inaccurate reading.
