Welcome to my channel dedicated to running adventures! While not exclusively focused on runDisney events, I often participate in races at Walt Disney World and beyond. Exploring new places and lacing up for the next adventure is my passion. Consider this channel a running diary where I share my unfiltered experiences-I promise to keep it real. Join me on this journey as I strive to become a better version of myself and a stronger runner.
I want to suggest something for fuel, but you're experienced and tried a lot. Maurten gels or solids, rice crispy treat, or make your own trail mix? Not sure if pickles or chips are really convenient to transport.
You really are bad at quitting aren't you? hahahah. I'll quit at 16, no 17, no I'll bail at 18, ok maybe at 19, oh F it I'll just finish. I LOVE THIS!!!!!
Thanks for this video and well done!! I noticed that you ladies have a hydration vest on but the guide says that hydration vests aren't allowed? What was your experience with security with them?
It was this vest: amzn.to/3BfBMNr it had two soft flasks but not a bladder or space for a bladder. As far as I could tell, running vests are allowed but hydration packs are not. I was wearing it when I went through security and they never questioned it. I hope that helps.
@LaurenCisneros saaaaaame!! Maybe carry a handheld with your electrolytes and then take a cup of water at each aid station. I like to wear shorts or pants with lots of pocket space so I can pack everything I need without worrying about a pack.
@@breakfastofmarathons9777that’s a good point. When I did NYC I wore a running belt with two small bottles and had a handheld. That worked out well but the belt was kinda annoying
Yeah, that was my biggest annoyance when I ran NYC the first time, I’ve gotten used to the handheld in training and almost prefer it over a pack for most races… almost. 😅
The White House, Washington Monument, WWII Memorial, Lincoln Memorial is pretty much all I've seen of DC over a decade ago. How often do you run around the National Mall area?
Congrats to you! You rock! Our friends live at mile 18 - they were the ones cheering for you at timecode 16:05 - in Pilsen neighborhood! They are the best cheerleaders!
So, I like birds and I like the IDEA of bird watching but sitting still and being quiet is not easy for me. Haha. I have seen both, but I also wouldn’t be able to tell you which ones they are.
My strategy was to try to relax and stick to my race plan. Which was 30:30 intervals the whole way. I was working with a coach that wasn’t right for me, so I didn’t have the confidence going into it that I have now with my current coach. My best advice: trust your training and be confident that you can do it. Easier said than done but it really can help. Also… spend your time before the marathon making sure it’s as close to your usual routine (eat what you normally would, hydrate as usual and make sure that you have water throughout your flight). I can go on and on but those are the best things I can tell you. 🙃
This is just the video that I needed to see. That's exactly how I'm envisioning my race. This is my 4th attempt, little training due to life. You ladies rock!!!!
Wow! That was like Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride! IYKYK You have worked so hard. I pray you can run your 50 miler the way you intended. Your dedication is so admirable.
Tough you got sick as you were healing from your ankle injury! Hope your 50k race has loops vs being an out and back in case things go really south. Don’t be too stubborn on race day if are still sick!
I finished the atlanta marathon in 6:29. The course time limit was 6:30. I was so alone at the very end that I was literally getting lost in the last few miles... having to figure out the course on my own. I'd come into water stations, and I'd be the only person, but the volunteers there would read my name on my bib and cheer like crazy for me. I guess that's what it also would feel like being at the very front? Lol. They were trying to move me to the sidewalk in my last like 500 metres, but technically the course was still open. It's really annoying and feels unfair when they do that and you're still within the time limit. :-/
Yes! I hate that some races are so dismissive of the back of the pack, but wonderful volunteers help ease the frustration. I wouldn’t have moved to the sidewalk if I were in the time limit, I would have pointed out that I had x amount of time left. Congratulations on your finish! 🎉
@breakfastofmarathons9777 yeah you're right. I didn't have the energy to even talk, though. Kudos to you for vlogging the whole thing! 💪❤️ There were police in the last mile of my race asking me to move, but no race staff or volunteers, so I wasn't really sure what else to do. I was in front of the sweep though, but there weren't many of us and we were spaced very far apart. From what I can see in your footage, your race seemed to have a lot more runners still hanging on at the back of the pack than the race I was in.
Thank you for making a video from the back of the pack, I’ve run 3 marathons now Sydney/Hobart & Brisbane and gotta say I’ve had two great back of the pack experiences with the marathon volunteers and crowds and 1 horrid one and we had a golf cart as the pass car and a guy on a scooter just telling us we were too slow and to not bother as we missed the cut off for them to reopen the roads (Brisbane) so I fully understand the feeling of doubt and defeat it brings with it but how good is it to go through all that and still finish that marathon! I’m running the Chicago Marathon this year 2024 flying all the way over from Brisbane Australia for it and I’m so excited! And I’ll be back of the pack there too I’m sure haha
Sydney is on my bucket list, I hear it’s a great race (and in line to become the 7th WMM)! Ugh, I wish that races would stop being jerks if they will let you finish on the sidewalk and give you a medal. Back of the pack are out there covering the same distance as everyone else and out for longer. Congratulations on getting into Chicago, I hope you will have time to do some sightseeing, it’s a neat city.
@@breakfastofmarathons9777exactly! And yes this year is the last year of its application process so we shall know September this year if it’s added next year as the 7th and then all those 6 star finishes would need to come down under to get that 7th
I appreciate SO MUCH these videos from my fellow back of the packers. I'm about to start training for my first full marathon, and you give me hope and inspire me. THANK YOU for posting this and being honest about your experience.
You are so welcome and thank you for watching. Good luck on your first marathon training, just remember to have fun and enjoy the process. There is absolutely nothing like your first marathon finish line. ❤️
I’m sorry you feel that way… 🤷🏻♀️ You obviously missed the point of the video as I raised A LOT of money for charity and couldn’t defer my bib because that’s Chicago’s rule. A week before this race I couldn’t even walk but felt that it would less insulting to people who donated to my charity to try. If this happens again, I’ll just let them know that you don’t approve and I won’t even try.
Not all marathons will be rose-tinted celebrations, but if you saw this as whining, you didn't see the same video I did. Some days just suck. When you're at the back of the pack, watching over your shoulder to make sure there's at least someone still behind you, seeing the flashing lights gaining on you as trash and runners are being swept off the course, the cheers are gone and your legs are cramping up, and you have to strategically change your goal and mindset on each mile in order to keep going... It's not whining. It's an unfiltered view of the truth that some people prefer to turn their heads from. If you are agitated, look away. You didn't "have to watch this" as you say. No one forced it on you. And if you didn't get a bib for this race, stop whining about it (the irony astounds). There are countless of other races you could have signed up for.
@TheJathys thank you, this was very well said and exactly what I was trying to show. When I decided to run, the only recaps I could find were from the mid-pack and faster runners. I want to show people that it’s ok to keep going.
Oh, I'm excited to follow this! Your content has helped me to learn that I will likely never do any disney runs, lol. Unpopular opinion, I know, so excited to see you focus on something else! 😊
Disney races are… a lot. They are what feel like never ending early mornings, lots of people and sometimes not so great routes… not to mention they are expensive. I love them but I can definitely see how someone wouldn’t want to do one… I have a coworker that did princess once and she is adamant about never again. With that said, it’s been fun focusing on something else and switching up my content. 🙃
Yes and no… we got it for 50% off because our cruise was cancelled in July 2023. Concierge was amazing, the cast members were amazing and the attention to detail was impeccable. However, there is a cap on how much I would be willing to pay for it and it is definitely MUCH less than the price normally is. I hope that makes sense.
@@breakfastofmarathons9777 We also had the 50% off. We were going to go on the third sailing but was canceled. It worked out better for us because we were able to take my whole family plus daughter’s boyfriend on the Wish. I’m glad you were able to experience it and maybe one day we will. Keep up with the marathon and ultra training 🏃♀️Good luck on your next race.
You forgot to run the second loop. You are not the only one that has done that they need to mark the course better. I made a POV video of the 5k to run at home on my channel a year ago when we were on the Wish plus made some Dad joke shorts a month ago on the Fantasy.
I do not. There isn’t anything wrong with others choosing to do so, but for me I don’t really think it’s relevant. Once I start training for time again (spoiler alert) I may talk pace a little bit.
@@breakfastofmarathons9777 at least your out there. If you finish within the races cutoff time. Then specifics about time and pace is no one else’s business
I am fortunate to live in a very active part of the country. We have so many hiking, biking and running trails. If you get sick of one, there are many others to explore.
I do not, I had some custom orthotics made a few years ago and they aggravated my feet. I’ve heard good things about superfeet but haven’t used them. Sorry I can’t be of much help. 😕
Glad I got to share some of the Dumbass Challenge miles with you! I knew going into it, this would be a one time thing going Marathon weekend to Disneyland back to back weekends. If it stays two weeks apart from now on, I could see it as a possibility for me.
I’m glad we got to share some dumbass challenge miles for sure. 🤣🤣 I wouldn’t do Dopey to Dumbo again but could be convinced to do something to Disneyland in the future… just not 2025. Haha.
If it works with your training plan, you could find a Mammoth March near you. It's a 20-mile hike. The one we did was pretty hilly, took us almost nine hours. We said never again, but now we're like, well, maybe... LOL
Good luck; you are not one for small challenges! 50 miles seems daunting and not for the faint of heart. Perhaps someday that will be my goal. Wishing you the best!
Great to see you again. Wow, 50 miles 🎉 Please keep us posted 😊 Are you signing up for disney marathon? I will try next week. Wish me luck. Have fun training 😊
Yeah, 50 is a huge undertaking but I’m super excited! Good luck at registration! I’ll be at marathon weekend for sure, I’m currently signed up for the half marathon with my Club RunDisney but I’m not sure if I’ll do any others. Derek will be doing Goofy if I can get him in next week so fingers crossed.
I actually use a couple different things to film. If I have Derek, my partner, helping me film, he uses an insta360 X3. I mainly use my iPhone 15 Pro but I also will use a GoPro Hero 9 when I have the space to bring it. I like the insta360 footage but I hate editing it with a passion. Derek takes care of all that for me because he’s good at it. If left to my own devices, I would solely use my iPhone because it’s easier to edit in pockets of free time since everything (including iMovie) is on my phone.
We always bring a blanket too! I get so grumpy when I forget a blankie, lol. Love your videos. I just stumbled upon them. It's so great to see a real world runner vlog. We did Dopey in 2023 and will be back next year. I'm a court reporter now, but was a paralegal in my former life, so I get that too. :)
Bringing a blanket has changed my travel life! I’m so happy you stumbled upon my videos, I am really trying to keep them real and honest, especially because those are the videos I enjoy and relate to. I’m planning to be at marathon weekend next year cheering for the marathon while my partner and some friends run. I admire court reporters! Transcription is not an easy job.
I think Disneyland is beautiful but I’m not sure if it is as magical as Disney World. That may just be a video perspective though. Regardless, awesome job!
Disneyland is much much smaller than World so it definitely doesn’t feel as magical. RunDisney in CA definitely has more work to do before I go back, I will probably discuss in a future video but it shows in the half marathon video that will be posted soon.
High five! It was such an amazing day! I'm glad TX Melissa was able to reassure me you were fine when you were emotional passing the spot you pulled the previous year.
There was an error I spotted. That was not Fancy Nancy. That was Sofia the First. Fancy Nancy has a yellow shirt and a pink tutu. She did appear during this event though in some cases.
Congrats on a great video and fantastic job on the marathon (and Dopey). Also fun to know we were in the same area towards the end (was walking with the Slackers the during Epcot). You killed it! Was so happy for you especially after you passed that point where you went on the bus the previous year. Hope you had a wonderful time!
