Henry's Senior Musicians Unite Channel. This channel is dedicated to inspiring Senor Musicians that they're "NEVER TOO OLD" to make music This channel provided tips and tutorials for older musicians to create great music and have FUN !!! The channel is also merged with my You Tube Artist Channel. My music is dedicated to folks who love Old Skool Music from the 70's with floating strings lines, smooth harmonies, and subtle love lyrics as exemplified by the 70's groups like The Miracles, The Delfonics, The Intruders, The Moments, Blue Magic, etc.. . I am an independent songwriter and producer and I do all the writing and vocal recording in a small independent home studio. All of my songs are available on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Spotify and Pandora. I hope you like what you hear and will subscribe to my channel.
Again a fine, traditional sound and song. Incredible what creativity brings on top when it flows. Also made great background choir. Maybe i can release my own creations of songs on a social platform to get a honest feedback from the people who listen. Have fun with your music and go further on with it. It's a true friend.
WOW! Love that line, " Sometimes we are limited by our own knowledge." Thanks for choosing Funk ( Working on some Funk backing tracks presently." Amazing analytical perspective to using BIAB...🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Much appreciated Henry !!!!!
Thanks for this video. At 3:20 You drag in the MIDI file again. I tried this myself, but when I do this, the dragged in MIDI file is slower tahn the opened MIDI file from the first place. Here is a video that shows my problem: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-woGQiFVb6wM.html
You should start from a clean slate and make sure you have no styles enabled. Also you should try another MIDI file to make sure that it's not the actual file itself. MIDI file should be Type 1 and not Type 0.
@Henry: I just encountered another problem and that is different speed of the imported MID. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-woGQiFVb6wM.html
Hi. First of all this is my old way of doing this but 2nd you have to remember that the clocks (BPMs) must match exactly to keep timing. Lastly I'm hoping you have a good MIDI file and not a flawed one. Try this video instead since much has improved since I produced this one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HbKVdAVUipQ.html
Thaks but remember this was done through a cell phone microphone. Believe me the real mix is much better and the vocals stand out. This really was something I was working on so I just turned on the camera. Still a good suggestion though. Thanks !
Yup, I can hear the progression from your earlier stuff to now a more of a Disco feel, good work, if you keep going I recommed skipping the Grunge period.
I've been looking through your lessons and haven't located where you say something like....'BB was unstable when I downloaded it, it works better loaded from hard copy...' I got the flash drive because it wasn't as stable as I need. Is that what you did? Did I misunderstand? Should I uninstall first and then install from the flash drive? Thanks. Appreciate your efforts here. 👍
Love yer stuff man! I do much of what you program in BIAB directly in my DAW (Cubase). Your simple instructions are dead on understandable! Love ya for that!
@@henryclarke5407 I called PG support about this and tbh, they weren't of any help. Their exact answer was “This is a unique method that was created by this video creator”. While I agree that you are able to accomplish wonderful feats in BIAB, I find their response evasive at best. It wouldn't be the first time I learned that certain functions available in the Windows version are not available for Mac. To answer you proposition of starting a RU-vid channel for Mac, I'm not sure I would be very helpful at this stage. I really enjoy your videos as they are very informative while remaining colloquial and good humoured. Bravo!!!
Thanks Henry!! Extremely helpful. The trouble i'm having with BIAB is i can't write a melody to a chord progression. I've ALWAYS written the melody first, chords next, lyrics last. I have some GREAT backing tracks done with BIAB & this will now help me with melodies. I'm a rock/pop guy exclusively - but your guidance here will help.
Love this Henry. I can see from the video that you have a Tascam recorder. - so do I. Have even managed to record my band and produce a CD using this great machine. Do you like using it?
I only use it for live recording or if I'm recording with others. When I do my solo projects I do all my recording directly in my DAW. It's less trouble and also I like the TASCAM but it's hard to do any effecting mixing in that small window so I'll transfer the stems over to my DAW and work from there. But it's an EXCELLENT recording device.
Hello sir. May I ask a question? I'm using real tracks in a song, but I want to write my own bass line in the notation editor. The trouble is, when I delete the notes and add my own, I still hear the original bass line during playback instead of what I wrote. I tried choosing a midi electric bass instrument for the bass line thinking the real track was taking over but that didn't work either. I even tried creating an extra track and naming it bass 2, but when I choose an instrument to assign there is no bass guitar listed to pick like there was in the original bass track pick list. Any ideas? Thanks.
To be honest I'm not a fan of trying to write a lot of MIDI stuff. I find it extremely inconsistent. I'd rather play the patch or creatively use the realtrack that it gives me. But in all fairness I can't answer your question. I would suggest that you make sure that none of the tracks you're using are not frozen.
Thank you, Henry. I appreciate the time that you take to carefully demonstrate and explain the different aspects of BIAB. Sometimes the BIAB documentation is a bit overwhelming and you make what is difficult much more understandable. Again, Thank you.
Hi Henry, nice cover, strong and pretty voice. Contratulations. I need help with my BIAB. I use it just to created blues backing tracks (very simples) to practice and learn (ahahahah) blues. I am 72 and I am a drummer trying to learn the guitar, for a language that is not my natural languague (I am Brazilian). But I love blues. I purchased the BIAB just for this purpose. I was doing OK with just the basics but I hit some buttom (which I do not remember which) and now my main screen changed. How do I go back to my original screen. I tried to reset and the screen did not changed (remained the same). Is there anything (simple) that I can do? I am in a screen that is not too different from the original but now I cannot mute the instruments I dont use. Usually I only use the drums and the bass. Thank you very much Cheers
Hi …. You might want to check out Henry’s recent video about BIAB Songs (Song Picker). I recall seeing quite a few blues backing tracks already created in there.
Words of wisdom, for all musician! You stroke a nerve, if you think about it, in a way your actually comparing AI Music to music crated by a person. The missing element in Digital (MIDI), and AI Music, is imperfection. Hummmm!!!!!!! So question is, do you want your music to sound like a AI track, or music created by a person?
Well depends on your point of view. Big Band Jazz is almost all charts. Fusion jazz is more freeflowing, and smooth Jazz incorporates and lot of discipline in the performance for everyone except the lead instrument so I do slightly disagree but I understand your point.
@@henryclarke5407 I always appreciate your insights. Swing Jazz and Smooth Jazz are often overlooked in my mind when speaking of Jazz because of the many times the names tossed into the conversations are Miles Davis, or T-Monk for instance. Yet, to your point, there are so many variations of the genre that needs to be considered. I have read swing band charts as a guitarist and can say there is a lot of chordal movements where the player does have license on where his fingers land to play that chord (as a guitar is far more limited than a piano to pul of playing b13 chords and such). However, it is recommended to follow the line of the pattern so that your movements are in either ascending or descending order often moving in chromatic steps from chord to chord. So, you are correct in that there are rules that a player must be aware of before jumping into a jazz band. By Experimentation I was inferring to those "pushing the envelope" players that seek to move the guideposts made by the rules in order to formulate a new sound. I recall a Tom Holland concert I attended a couple of decades ago where that was what it sounded like to my ears back then. I enjoy the discussions! Cheers!
You hit the nail on the head! Us senior musicians have to have realistic expectations too.... We're extremely unlikely to have a hit....These tools are enabling us to have fun which is great!
Correct. Actually EVERYONE is extremely unlikely to have a hit. SO much competition and such a crowded field. Howevre, one can always hope and wish :-)
As always, great teaching my friend. I heartily thank you for showing us this new way to edit our production within BIAB. Fantastic tutorial. Merci beaucoup Henry.
Love the T-shirt my friend. "You're never too old to make music". I just wish many more people of ALL ages would try to play an instrument. The world will be a MUCH better place. Thank you for uploading. I just installed BB. I have NOOO idea how to start ANYTHING. So frustrating.
Thanks, I found your video very informative and beautifully paced. Do like the name of your channel Senior Musicians Unite at 69 I'm thrilled to find a peer group, Thank you Thank you Thank you. I create basic backing tracks with Band in a Box but very eager to learn some more. Appreciate that you take the time and have the patience to prepare these gems...James
Please excuse (somehow I can’t edit my own posts on my ipad, as it seems). Do you save the „new“ style only to be able to find it easier? Because the style is no different than the style you initially loaded, is it?
Nice! But isn’t the „new style“ you saved there the same than the style you initially picked? I thought a style defined the instruments contained and the way to play these (maybe rhythms, voicings etc.). So what difference of a result does you new style do to a new chord progression (or midi file) compared to the original style? Style is progression independent, or is it not. Thanks a lot for clarifying! Great videos!
Henry, can i create (from original songs) single instrument accompaniment.... acoustic Guitar in particular ... so, i could perhaps find all the chords to the original and then i could select a BIAB single guitar accompaniment? Like, take a James Taylor song, could i turn it into a single acoustic guitar accompaniment ideally that syncs with original song ..
Hi. This approach is very very difficult. BIAB has an app called Audio Chord Wizard (ACW). You load in your music file and it figures out the chords. I find it very finicky and troublesome so I rarely use it. One of the reasons is that it uses the timing (BPM) of the audio track which has to be spot on accurate in order for it to sync properly. In theory you could try it and it may figure out some of the chords. If so I would run it, write the chords down that it finds, and create a new BIAB song with those chords and play my song directly into BIAB on an audio track. That way you can change styles, mute certain instruments, etc.. and have everything sync. Sorry but that's the only way I know of approaching it based on what you wrote.
I find one of the hardest things to do is jump ahead in your product knowledge. So many people get tripped up because they try to start at an intermediate level and end up frustrated because they did not understand some of the implications of their actions.

This is great. It really helping me. As I'm really I'm beginner in Band In The Box but want to really know what I'm doing. Like your video so much. Helps me to put my projects together. Thank you for all you do.
Hi again Henry. I just spent about an hour in the Song Picker and I was amazed at what was in there. In addition to all the song files there are tons of practice tracks that will help if you are learning to play an instrument. Thanks again.
Hi Henry, is it possible to create an entirely different style or use/import a midi file from a Professional Arranger ( Korg, yamaha ) to create a BIAB style using that midi data? Can real players be inserted into this NEW STYLE instead of the GENERIC Midi instruments? On the other hand , Audio can be recorded from a Professional Arranger ( all accompanying parts ) into GarageBand and also an MP3 can be created from a PA. I know Garageband can use BIAB as a VST or AU. Can these audio tracks from a GENOS or KORG style be imported into BIAB and real players used on those AUDIO tracks? kindly send me a link how to do this. If so ill buy BIAB for mac.. I appreciate your time and experience thank you very very very much
You asked for a lot of separate functions and I don't have a single video that encompasses them all. I will just say that BIAB accepts MIDI data, it accepts audio wavs, and MP3s, and all of these can be manipulated. However, with what you wrote I can't see why you even want to get into all the programming. If you have everything on the Korg and Yamaha, plus I assume you have these going to vst's and maybe audio vocals in a DAW. why bother. BTW. I don't sell BIAB. I just try to help those that have already purchased get though the many facets of the product.
Hi Henry, It would be great if you could do a tutorial on using Spitfire Audio's BBC Orchestra - Discovery is the free version with BIAB. I've dabbled with it a bit and find it's impressive, but would love to see what you could do with it.
Hi. I checked it out since I had not heard of it before and decided to pass. I just don't have the cycles to get into a lot of programming and playing around with VST's. I actually play some arrangements live through my M-Audio and my Cakewalk/Bandlab vsts sometimes when I do old soul. It's not on par with an orchestra but it's not too bad. Thanks for bringing it to my attention but I have to pass on this one.
