There is no way they can destroy a fishery. You can't catch them all you may knock there numbers down but thats it. Shut down the fishery and in time they will come back. Man do some research and learn somthing. The ammount of atlantic cod being farmed is crazy and the buisness is growing. Ive worked with cod fish raisng them and can tell there are alot of folks flapping gums about thjngs they know nothing about. Just because you read it on the internet doesn't make it true...wake up
Over fishing by commercial fishermen and their plain out ignorance in attitude will mean many fish species will become extinct. Take Atlantic Cod, facing extinction, the government rather than freezing fishing only keeps reducing quota, yet fishermen still knowing inevitably the cod will become extinct, only cry and complain they cannot catch more. Too many operators, and fish sold too cheaply, if you cannot afford to buy fish, catch your own, or eat your localised food sources, save the fish.
The Icelanders and Norwegians are intelligent peoples, as they have kept the ocean raping EU trawlers, drag-netters and beamers out , who's only interest is in smashing up the sea bed and killing tons of marine life by catch, for just a few kilos of commercial fish.
