Hello. I got a crack out of this flick. Found an 8mm projector ( not s8) in one of the attics - house - Mother side of the family. Propped it up, improvised screen & screened (!) it, making the living room briefly matinee for family. 9, 10 years old ...lights out and all. It was neat. Thank you.
Harold had a prop bomb blow up in his hand and he lost two fingers and his face was badly burned while this was being made. He recovered and after a lengthy pause, the film was completed and released in 1920. Also, Dee Lampton, who played the Butler, died of an appendicitis at the age of 20, he was in 55 films.
I know so little about the Cello.Never thought of it as a VERY COOL instrument but it is.I listen for it now all the time;Thank you George Martin! And thank all of you musicians out there playing the Beatles.Genius pure Genius!
Typical of movies of this period, the "spooks" part of the plot is actually very short, with the bulk of the running time taken up by other short stories - the rich girl and her father, Harold's suicide attempts, and the drive to get to the house with the chicken gags.
An early example of a classic Lloyd chase scene. He was already raising the danger level on his stunts at this point. There's a reason Jackie Chan gave a tribute to Safety Last in one of his movies
