Can you do SMILE surgery after LASIK? I had LASIK done in 2001 and now my vision is 20/40 again and I'm stuck with glasses. This kinda sucks and I'm looking at having another procedure done.

smile is the most safe and painless, yet very expensive. if you wanna do an eye surgery that is safe, not very expenisive BUT painfull, you could have prk

it means after doing LASIK / SMILE, our eyes will back to normal permanently ? (no more myopia / nearsighted problem ?) and also, are the LASIK and SMILE have the same effect ?, because from what i read in the comment, some people said that PRK will cause an issues with our eyes, but LASIK and SMILE only a small possibility

I had a Lasik surgery 3 years ago and never had any problems. Some hours after the surgery my eyes hurt a bit but I already could see perfect . At the time there was another patient who had a PRK surgery and she had so much pain and could not open her eyes on day two. So I can recommend lasik and heard only good things about smile.

None of these procedures are safe and effective. They all do permanent and irreversible damage to your eyes. People have committed suicide over these non essential high risk refractive eye surgeries. The risks aren't worth the implied benefits both short and long term. You've been warned.
@Nova_bl
@Nova_bl 6 лет назад
100 % agree with you. as an Optometrist , I know a lot about the complications of refractive surgery and I'm so mad at the surgeons who's always advising ppl not to use contact lenses as an advertisement for refractive surgery , first procedure called RK , they stopped it but ppl who did it are suffering with blinding complications . some of them are not achieving good vision unless they are fitted with Scleral hard contact lenses. in Lasik, PRK , a great amount of corneal thickness is evaporated with laser.

Well it does happen, it just happened to a meteorologist Jessica Starr from our local news station. Who knows what is the complete reason why someone takes their own life, but it is possible that something of this nature could be the linchpin to such an event. A beautiful, brilliant, funny young wife and mother who was suffering from complications from the Smile procedure ended her life last night. What was supposed to be a simple thing turned out to be a long ongoing recovery continuing for over three months. She tried to return to work three times and was unable to stay, she suffered painful scratchy dry eyes over a prolonged period of time. And that is only what we know right now. Who is any one of us to judge? R.I.P. Jessica, prayers to you family and friends. You will be missed.

As the video said: the flap in Lasik is permanent, the flap never fully grows back to the rest of the cornea and can cause problems. I'm thinking of either PRK or Relex SMILE, where there's only a small cut, instead of a permanent flap.
@juno_88
@juno_88 7 лет назад
but isnt the PRK instead of cutting the outside layer, they actually remove it off the eyes forever? i dont understand how PRK works
@intellisis01
@intellisis01 7 лет назад
PRK is not removing the actual tissue. It removes a layer of epithelium cells, which grow back in a very short period of time. It is referred to as Surface ablation. Consider it like a scratch on your skin as opposed to a cut
@juno_88
@juno_88 7 лет назад
so, if it grow back, why LASIK's flap is permanent?
@someone3187
@someone3187 7 лет назад
JuNo Jr PRK is a different procedure, than Lasik. Just google both different procedures. 1)In LASIK they cut a flap into the cornea and laser underneath, then they close the flap again, but it never fully grows back together. This can cause problems with the vision. Also, the flap can open again, when somebody hits you in the eyes by accident. 2)In PRK they laser directly on the outside of the cornea. It's a bit more painful, until you grow a protection layer, but at least there's no permanent flap afterwards. With PRK there's the risk, that once the lasered outer part heals, the vision is again not perfect and you might need again prescription glasses.
@juno_88
@juno_88 7 лет назад
thanks for the info, i was thinking of getting PRK or LASIK surgery but now that u said u will still have to wear prescription glasses again with PRK and the flap wont fully grow with LASIK...maybe relex smile better?

How about LASIK for my eyes I have a hyperopia +4.5 both eyes
@FrankGoesJr

upper limit for lasik for hyperopia is +3.5 D. If your age is 45+, a clear lens extraction is far better, maybe with a multifocal lens. Good luck !

LASIK is possible and so is ICL surgery. But an assessment and examination of your eyes need to be performed to determine suitability.
