Brass clips for life here! The old tradie that taught me had some real old ways about doing things but they crap all over your clipped plastic cables, even down to using grey hose on HWS!
@@_nztradie The plastic clips and staple gun lol; Old lads used to spend days on installs and the bloke who taught me (Dave Young R.I.P. even brought in his hand powered drill in one day)
They arent just plastic aye they are a metal staple, I learnt on metal pin clips but honestly I don't see the point in wasting time hitting clips in when this it like 5 time quicker
@@_nztradie Think the old saying is "Time is money" and it rings true to larger projects, my question to you is do you want quality over quantity of time how fast you can smash out a project? I've done heaps of domestic and sure we can smash out a project quickly but you lose quality of it in the process.
Kia ora Trev, yea they are for the ripple control and the meter guys install them. Although this is like 2007 when this would be installed. I'd rather put a surface board in there and mcbs personally
@@_nztradieyou can run the L2 to just the grid port as long as the attached solar is under or limited to 5kw then it wont export L1's battery, we also found they'll still export the battery if the envoy is on the same site id, it also can work out better on some plans, like meridians ev plan, which pays you 12c for export and charges 9c overnight, also works well on the 3 hours free plans, then they pay you for them converting between phases for you
Until it's mandatory to do, people will always opt out if they can save a buck. I kind of wish customers didn't have a choice in this country, maybe on sale of your house the switchboard needs to be up to modern standards. Good luck getting that approved if the government can't even sight the new asnzs 3000/2018 standards 😂
Cool video but wow that is an old switchboard. I'm surprised the customer can afford solar but has no money to replace the old switchboard. Keep the videos coming, it's cool to see electrical videos coming from nz.
You mentioned how when using a bus bar the heights of the terminals can be an issue do you not have any regulation like how the UK does on type testing where you have to use the same brand range of products or compatible models to ensure they will work with things like a bus bar and to ensure they won’t interfere with each other operation or your regulations worded differently such that using different brands that would cause an issue with a bus bar would that be under a regulation of just installing it to a safe standard rather than a specific one telling you that? I do find your limit of three breakers per RCD quote practical because it helps prevent nuisance tripping and does greatly minimise the amount of circuits that can be affected if the RCD trips as well as being quite cost-effective which I think a good balance there. Your use of an men link is quite interesting as in the UK the supply authority generally connect the Earth and neutral together at your property inside the main cutout fuse which is sealed off
@UKsystems thanks for the comment. What a great one, no there isn't a regulation on the mcbs being unless they are on a branded pan. Yea the 3mcbs to an rcd is great stuff. Yes we put an men link at every point where we drive a new earth peg
@Goryrat no the time switch is new too, it was on a ripple control meter before hand, we want to limit the current draw to the site and prioritize solar use on the hotwater
this is exactly what I hope working as an apprentice will be. finishing my pre-apprentice soon. I need more of NZ sparky videos haha. too solid bro keep it up
Nice to see you using a micron gauge, but when you shut down the low side valve on your gauge set you also cut out the micro gauge, which is what you need to be watching to check if you have moisture, you wont see it on an analogue gauge. I don't do heat pumps, do they come pre-charged and you are just pulling a vacuum on the lines then opening it up? Do you also nitrogen pressure test your connections? Often slow leaks wont show on a vacuum.
@electricalmayhem you make some good points, over the years different trainers say different things and then this is just where we have ended up, hence why we do it this way
Hey Mate , do you think you could expand and dumb down the explanations a little bit , I'm an apprentice and I try to subby and watch as many Electrical videos as I can , purely for my own interest, some of the content I understand but the fast paced editing and explanations seem aimed at an audience who understand everything your doing . If that's the case , please ignore the feedback , I enjoy your videos , just trying to follow along a little bit more in the technical aspects of the installs . :)
@@_nztradie Would love some more detail regarding your Solar installs , I'm in Australia but my Parents live in Te Awamutu , I was really interested in the heat pump , they're not really a thing here , my parents have got one and I was keen to learn more , the specifics of how they fit into the solar install as a total working system , thanks for the great content
@vHystrix there is no real difference except that rcbos are move expensive. We use rcd mainly because thats what we have always use but also because we want our apprentices to be able to wire one and not just rely on rcbo 🤙maybe ill make you a video bro
@bridgetwilliams9916 yea definitely will get one in the works, although it is harder because where people will get study material is different depending on were they are living
Hey mate, thought only range appliance doesn't require RCD protection? Can't see anything in anzs 3000 about AC and hot water being exempt unless I'm missing something
@cozzaa good thought I can look but I believe its under fixed wired appliances, But in the 2018 regs when they come in for nz AC hot water and maybe even ranges (not 100% sure) have to be on RCDs
Thanks for putting in the effort to help out where no 1 else has, like our training providers etc. It really helps having readily accessible information to learn from. Does the current regs exam require us to reference where the multichoice answer came from or do we just select the correct multichoice answers?
@harleymark-gordon3589 so questions do and some dont but its pretty obvious, like the answer would but A, 3.5 B, 4.5 C, 3 Or it would ask what is the max resistance to a main earth A, 1ohm B, 0.5ohm C, 0.1ohm
Another nice job. Here in Canterbury, we're limited to 5kW of PV per phase. How does it work where your are? Is the Enphase system configured to limit export?
Can you please make a video on how to convert this wiring to a smart switch ? I can make a video of what I've got at my house. Its a bit tricky to convert this 2 way switch wiring to a smart switch 2 way.
Nice. Any tips/tricks on getting the panels in those long portrait arrays even first time? Also, any tricks on breaking down a pallet of panels when you have 30 plus of them trying to fall over?
