I recommend the tohatsu 20h it’s a fantastic outboard, with 2 onboard a t38 and lots of fishing gear it does 23 mph and I guess with 4 onboard it will 20 mpg no problem
Fantastic combination. I have the same boat pared with the Yam 25hp 2stroke but I was looking to downsize. I can lift and manage the 25 still but it is on the heavy side. Also wanted better fuel economy and a quieter engine. I looking at the 9.9, your video shows that the little yam can certainly perform well enough two up which is how I would use it. This is a fantastic boat, I love mine!
Do you have any issues using a more powerful than recommended outboard ? Obviously honwave state max 20hp which seems very reserved when considering other manufacturers go up to 30hp.
I was thinking if this rod snaps I'm jumping in after it 😂😂 It's a Carp Stalker NGT 8ft 2lb test curve rod. Last Pike I had on it was around 12lb or more and it fought hard but that was something else!! Pure class.. However next year I think I'll take something abit stiffer 😅😅
Beautiful scenery, I’ve always wanted to go to the Italian Lakes, especially Lake Garda. You’re going international now 👍🏻 this time next year you’ll be ice fishing in the arctic 😂
@@G-winn yeah however it’s a pain because it gets in the way of the tilt mechanism, I don’t use it anymore if someone manages to successfully steal a 25 hp if the back of my transom they deserve it 😂😂
What clothing do you wear on the boat? Waders, drysuit etc? I’ve seen so many debates in forums in terms of safety of waders and drysuit being too sweaty that I’m stuck what to buy. I’ll be beach launching, not sure if you beach launch or use a slipway but just trying to figure out what works for ppl?
Hello good question! I generally wear waist waders they pull on and off like trousers I then wear a good waterproof jacket over the top, however when it’s warmer I’m in shorts and flip flops, as long as you have a life jacket on that’s as safe as you can be 👍
@@ryanferris7841 Thanks 👍🏻 I’m definitely leaning towards chest or waist waders, still looking atm, drysuit just seems a bit of a faff tbh, although popular with some ppl.
Honestly pal I would not recommend it! Try and pick up the new model Yamaha 9.9 much better wee engine slightly heavier however a lot smaller and easier managed
Hi, great video and advice. Me and my partner are looking at a setup similar to yours as we are newbies. Think im gonna go for the T38 . What would you recommend ? 9 or 15hp, yamaha or honda ? Also recommeded sellers ?.... We are in the North West of England..... Wheels , seats etc ? Any advice would be great. Many thanks.
Thanks! Its all depends on your lifting capabilities a nice 15 would be ideal however all outboards are different For example the tohatsu 15 is light however its bulky and awkward and not user friendly in my opinion , the Yamaha 9.9 is heavier however very compact and easy to get the arms round, Hondas are great but heavy and bulky, for the ultimate compact to power ratio I say yam 9.9 all day, I am not keen on other brands and the yam 15 is big and heavy! So if you keep the weight down in your t38 2 adults max the 9.9 will be perfect 👌
Looked a great even fishing out there Batman, in the lovely Batboat 😂. Never been to Northern Island but looks lovely from what I’ve seen. I’m in Yorkshire, can’t wait until I eventually get my Honwave and sample the Yorkshire coast although being on the east coast I won’t get lovely sunsets like you guys. Great vid as usual 👍🏻
Beautiful footage- thanks- my 3.8. Honwave has today had it's 'initial fitting' of your plywood floor and so far I am DELIGHTED- haven't used it properly yet as I'm going to paint it with single pack polyurethane OR non-slip boat deck paint ( haven't decided -I will ring the manufacturers on Monday). Carry on the good work- I still hope to batter the bass before the weather closes in on North Wales !
I’ve enjoyed your videos a lot and your buddy with the t35. I’m trying to decide between the three of them . Having had the t38 & t40 which you would you recommend ? Assuming both are left inflated and transport/ weight isn’t a big deal.
If weight isn’t an issue and storage isn’t and issue and handling and launching isn’t an issue then t40 all day, however you will need no less than a 20hp however i recommend a 25 fir that extra poke 👍👌
Hi fella. Loving the videos, I'm picking up a lot. I'm new to this not actually been out yet just getting my gear together. Ive got myself the same engine 👍 How do you find the 9.9 shaft length on the sib. does the motor sit level or too low on the boat. On my sib the cavitation plate seems around 50mm lower than the bottom of the boat. wondering is this an issue or am I over thinking it?. also, how do you transport the motor in the car to the shore? stored flat on its tiller or prop down? Cheers
Hello, thanks for checking out my videos you will discover that in nearly all sib designs that the outboard cav plate will be slightly lower than the keel!! and this is for good reason, sibs are extremely buoyant and do a lot of bouncing about especially in a swell sibs plane on their tubes and not on their keels like a rib!! the bouncing about causing the prop to come out of the water and push air instead of water this is called ventilation!! So you want it low especially in rough water and if you are messing about doing turns etc! I store mine on its side tiller arm down and transport it from A to B in a portable folding outboard trolly Hope this helps 👍
@@ryanferris7841 Thanks Ryan, that was the answer I was hoping for 👍, was thinking id been mis-sold the engine by the dealer after watching videos of people raising there transom height. regarding transportation the dealer said tiller side down like yourself. reading the manual, it states "when storing/transporting tiller down it drain the engine oil" ?? probably covering their backs. I do think they need to reword their manual myself
Great video Ferryman! Would like to do the same with my t38. To save a bit of time would you be happy to share dimensions for the floor? Happy to donate to your channel!
Here you go- 12mm 202 cm long 96 cm wide at the stern tapering down to 86 cm at the bow end! Make sure you notch out for the drain plug and cut to clear where the tubes join the transom! All above is a guide only as other t38s may vary slightly! I appreciate your support however your subscription means a lot and if you share my videos amongst your friends I would be grateful ☺️ I’m trying to achieve 500 subs 😝
Greetings from Spain. A 9.9 engine falls short for 3 adults plus some cargo (refrigerator, water, safety elements depending on the navigation area such as flares, life jackets, etc.). Is a 15hp engine better for the t38 and to transport it by car? I have doubts about a 9.9 in navigation with a headwind, and a formed sea. And well, about the t38 I'm looking for something that can be easily assembled and also disassembled after navigation. pack and save! Thanks in advance!
Hi those seats look great what diameter is the seat for the t 40 I noticed the there is two different sizes. I am enjoying your videos I have just got my first dinghy so lots of good tips on your site and lots to learn. Thanks
