The HeliBoy was my 1st RC helicopter. AM 4ch radio and no gyro . It was hard to fly . Then went to a 5ch FM helicopter radio with a gyro . Wow i was able to hover lol
Very cool but I wish they showed closeups of the helicopter, especially the swashplate and linkages. Also would like to see the transmitter and receiver, battery pack and servos.
No gyro yaw was wild. Bring back no gyro flight sessions. I had a great time flying a perfect gear ratio AIR HOGS throttle only chopper. I could fly it in lines, triangles, squares, and land it, no crashes, but strictly hand launch, with throttle blips. Was great $20 investment, flew it to shreds, but saved the main and tail rotors, very great crash forgiving design.
Lots of these clips look like a very creative way to win a Darwin Award! Back in the late 70's I flew a Schluter MiniBoy with no gyro. It was a hand full. I still have that machine.
Wow man what a flight, i thought this was impossible back then when it was produced. I had 12 years than :) Does it have mechanical giro? Beautiful chopper. I noticed tail rotor not spinning if engine is not working so no autos on these back than :( Hat down mate Cheers Zz
My dad and I flew one for years. This machine would auto, just the tail was not driven. You'd let it weather vane and the chopper would stay straight till the last pull and flair then rotate just less that 90*. It was the 1st heli I ever flew, it was on rails! Ours had a mechanical flywheel gyro that ate up the old nicad batteries... A cool feature was the collective pitch pushrod was in the center of the main shaft. Smooth as silk.
Great history of model helicopter pioneering. At 3:55, I have this music clip from Pinnacle Studio added in my Grampians adventure video shot in 2007. 😎👍
