I'm Xiang, a second year medical student. On my channel I go through all things productivity, and hope that I can positively impact how you study so that you can maximise your marks whilst minimising your study.
All in all, I'm all about making your study enjoyable so that you'll have more time to enjoy life and all things good.
If you want to reach out to me, feel free to leave a comment or DM me on instagram @exy.med
Hi, would you say 2 & 1/2 months is enough time to properly prep for the UCAT? Using the advice you've laid out in the video...great advice btw, really helpful :)
yeah well said! lots of my friends use an ipad to study and I thought of buying one also but I found it not comfortable to my style of studying, from my pov, i find paper and pen way better but thats just me
Hi, i know im probably late but its january and my tests on late july.. i just took a test with a 2100 score point and im really disappointed . Pls tell me were u the same when u started the ucat. Like is there hope for me to actually jump to ur level? Im commited to this so pls drop your best advices because on how i actually improve drastically .. my weak point is VR.. I HAVE TO GET INTO MY DREAM UNI SO PLS BE GENUINE
I’m not him but let me tell you, you have so much time. As long as you stay consistent. Some ppl don’t even start revising for it until 4 weeks before! Everyone find the time pressure hard to start with.
Hi Exy, love your videos keep up the good work. I was wondering what the best strategy is for VR?. The medentry technique is the briefly skim and then read the question stem and then locate info through keywords. But this technique seems somewhat ineffective as you have to repeatedly locate parts of information. What was your personal strategy?
Hey exy! I loved your UCAT video and I was wondering if you would be able to elaborate on how you made the most of the questions you did in the lead-up to the exam. E.g. did you do anything specific to review mistakes or did you just keep churning out questions??? Thanks :)
hi! im a year 12 international l student. ive seen most of the UCAT videos and theyre sponsored by paid ucat resources like medify and icanmed. so its difficult to find if theyre really worth it. can i acheive a good score if i only use free resources and practice on my own or are these websites really all that?
The legend himself has uploaded! Not sure if its just my laptop but I couldn't hear your voice very well in this video, the music was very loud in comparison. This is great motivation for my VCE this year since I really want to get into med lol
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I shot this one on the GoPro since the camera is too heavy to lug around and vlog but should defs be fixed for next vid. Keep it up!!
Hey Exy, great vid. Just wanted to know if ur SAC scores dropped closer to the UCAT, especially cos needing to prioritise UCAT more. Would u have any tips to prevent this?
Hey Josh, thanks for the question! I sat my UCAT the first week of T3, meaning I pretty much didn't overlap the peak of my UCAT Prep with VCE. Towards the end of T2 as I was ramping up practise too, generally it was fine. The main reason why is if you're able to be consistent and intense with your UCAT practise, you really don't need any more than 2-3 hours of practise a day at the highest peak of your UCAT practise, and I think for most people anyways, considering heaps of y12 students would have more than 2+ hours of screen time just on apps like TikTok, it's really up to your discipline and organisational skills to see if you can fit that practise in. I would say mainly just try to focus on the high yield skills and knowledge for your SACs and try to trim off the bits of study that don't actually help much with retaining content - for me this was taking notes just as an example. Hope that helps!
Fr the gaslighting and scaring I’ve experience from ICM is just unreal. I disagree on the methodology critique though, I think their methods to the UCAT do work well. But the gaslighting and close mindedness of their program made me feel really uncomfortable and de-motivated to do more UCAT practice.
I got a raw score of 32 in chemistry and a 30 in methods, and I think that's largely because I didn't study hard enough and, when I did, I didn't think I done it very efficiently. I'm just wondering whether I can obtain a high enough atar for medicine. Given my scores in methods and chemistry, do you think it would be too difficult for me to get an atar for medicine even with seas? I have already started getting a head start for vce and the ucat and been improving how i study.
hey- im on a similar boat though im not that worried about making it to medicine- i just want a good atar for more options. im got a 31 raw in methods last year and im only doing 5 subjects next year none of which scale too well one thing i find helpful is knowing how well i need to keep performing year round ie specific sac marks etc and i find that helps me alot and i wish i didnt neglect it in methods :( try seeing what study scores you should be aiming for to get to your desired atar by using an (accuarate) atar calculator and try your best!!!
I wouldn’t rule it out, you’d just have to work incredibly hard. If you can turn things around in year 12, with the way the aggregate is calculated it will have almost no effect. The key is to be able to transform how you study :)
Hey! I will eventually make a vid on this but I would highly recommend picking up a year 9 maths textbook and just working through the fundamental questions such as kinematics, ratios, fractions, probability etc. On top of that, check out arithmetic Zetamac for improving mental maths!!
Hey Exy :)) I am currently in Year 11 (going into Year 12 after this short holiday) and right now, I am focusing on Decision Making, particularly Syllogisms, as I lose the bulk of my marks there. Do you have any tips or resources that I should direct myself to for these? Also, for Logic Puzzles, how did you improve at them? I am alright at them, but I feel as though I lack in speed and technique when I do them. Hope I am not bothering you, but thank you for the video :)) It was very helpful.
Syllogisms can be quite challenging. If you shoot me a PM on insta I'd be happy to hop on a call and show u how to do them. For logic puzzles, there is a specific technique that involves setting up a table. Nws!! Lmk if you have anymore Qs :)
Hey I'm in year 11 and exactly in the same spot as you were when you were beginning. So do you recommend literally just buying medify or medentry (whichever) and begin doing questions and questions? Then seeing weak points and working on them etc and keep going from there? Also I'll probably go with medify after watching your video and some others and was wondering what the difference is between the study and prepare?
