As a drummer who was highly influenced by Les, I can't imagine what it must feel like to have that level of skill and control... so seemingly effortless. Truly an amazing drummer.
Dave played in Apartment with my brother Al who played trumpet. sadly both are gone now taken way too soon from this world. Talented musos, wanting to give back and mentor the young ones. Both SOO missed.
Although I can't quite take his snare tone, his melody, groove, and dynamics are beautiful. Definitely too good for pop-Priest, if I were him that stuff would have driven me away too.
As a drummer of over 35 years ( professional gigging musician ,touring and in the road for basically 20 years) I'm not a big fan of drum solos in the middle of a concert ,gig etc etc , however Ive noticed the art of drum solos is disappearing . Modern metal drummers especially don't know how to perform a good solo, everything is just about going as fast as possible for a minute or two , no style ,thought ,preparation etc etc seems to go into a modern drum solo . I enjoyed how lez showcased many styles throughout his solo .
He's the man he is in charge of everything look out wouldn't want to get in his way you big powerful and smart animals go have some fun thanks best wishes to everyone in the troops you smart animals. Joe

What a drummer! I didn't expected that kinda fusion jazz solo on ex Judas priest drummer. I have Stained Class and Killing Machine on vinyl format and love his drum parts.
This is incredible! Thanks for sharing. I'd bet that the drums are happy that they are being played like a set of drums want to be played. Blue collar, meat and potatoes way of doin' it Les! Rock on forever hard!
For all the drummers out there…..Les Binks is/was very special! We’re talking insane physical ability and creativity. What a shame Judas Priest let him go…..
Never, ever understood why Les parted ways with Judas Priest . I know that it's been claimed he left because they wouldn't pay him for his live performance on Unleashed in the East and also that they wanted him to change his style but refused to do so. It's just bizarre that a drummer of this calibre , widely recognised as the best they have had, was replaced by Dave Holland who, however well he may have played with Trapeze, was never anywhere near as good as this guy. Seriously , they were never as good after Les left . Especially live.
I dislike most drum solos because they have no groove or technique and then every blue moon I come across someone who has put thought into a solo and mixes groove and technique and builds the solo to make the it enjoyable. I hear Ian Paice in some of this so I would be surprised if he wasn’t a major influence and a little Max Roach too. No idea why Judas Priest let his geezer go as he is clearly a great drummer.
Became hip to Dave watching Sade's Montreux 1984 performance over and over. Masterclass in drumming, one of the best drummer/percussionists I've ever heard out of Ireland. RIP
