Born in 1951 lived in a Midlands village, went to the village school, at Harvest time all the kids helped the farmers, the local paper had a club for village children, we all went to the pantomime in the local town at Christmas, we celebrated May Day with a Maypole and festivities, we played in the fields and explored, everyone knew each other, the vicar and the policeman knew everyone, two village shops, two pubs, a butcher, probably only two hundred people in the village, local women cycled ten miles for work in the town in all weather, poor but we were happy.
I was born in 1959 so not really a 50's child, more of a 60's child, but what I see here is far better than life today, yes times were still hard after the war but at least kids could be kids and adults socialized, Britten is now a totally different country from my childhood, I love watching social films from the 50's, 60's and 70's because it takes me back to when we could be proud to be British, even if some of the sound tracks are a bit bleak, like this video, it was one of the best times in British history for the normal working class people.
🌺We were so much more happier in the 50s and 60s you had nothing ,but when you look back you realise you actually had all you needed to be happy,no internet to compare yourself to a influencer ,no vlog showing you how to clean out your cupboards or show you what you bought while out shopping, god I pity the young people of today ,they don’t know what they have missed.
I was a kid in the 70’s, flew a few times then, and I flew a lot in the 80s and 90s (for business and leisure). But Flying since then is dog-poop, thanks to the un patriotic “patriot” act, and TSA gropers. Get the Gov the h3ll out of the airline business and we’ll have much better flying experiences today.
Beautiful homogeneous people sadly now the country is totally gone, ruined, wasted, destroyed, obliterated, sadly those who died for their country died for nothing 😢

London when it was still British. I never lived there, but would visit regularly. I would not go there today. I'm sure the tourist trade is dying.

Great collection of photographs of an age never to be seen again. In a few decades it won't even be remembered except in videos like this.
Born in the 50’s, we’ve had and seen the best times, the 70’s and 80’s were brilliant, all gone down hill terribly since the end of the nineties. Fear for the future generations.
To those not born in the 50s this may look depressing - and I'm sure that some adults struggled, but to kids (I was born 1953) it was a glorious time - playing in old buildings and on the streets; a school trip on a coach was an adventure, Christmas was marvellous. Children don't see dirt and decay they see opportunity and adventure. Our country has been destroyed by multiculturalism and by the opportunistic, treasonous, selfish and often stupid actions of generations of politicians. I'm glad my parents are dead. My father would be apoplectic if he saw what is taking place today.
Remember it well.. 1944er .. football in the street ,,Hopscotch with a piece of roofing slate ,, cobbled streets (Marbles) ,, Trolley (babies pram wheels)..i remember playing marbles and my cousin ran up saying Rationing has finished we never had much as dad would swop the sweet coupons for his fags .. walk to school in all weathers ..most cloths from the church jumble sale .. those were the days .. then in 1968 i emigrated to Australia by myself .. Ten Pound Pom..
Such memories of me as kid in the fifties growing up. Everything seems so simple and straightforward unlike the mayhem and aggression of today. I yearn for those days everybody seemed so much nicer. Thankyou for these videos
Born in 1944. Remember the 1950s well. Was it better then? Guess the kids of today will look back when they're old and say it was better in my day. Generations come and go and always think the previous one was better.
Wretchedly governed and Ill policed...and a foreign country ..2024.. Thank God I lived in England before it's downfall. God help the youngsters. 92 now
