this is really well played. the comments below about neurotic, and theatrics are dumb and just denote ignorance . A performer does whatever he/she feels necessary to play in an engaged way. Congratulations on that interpretation. I have performed that work and it is not easy to pull off.
Well, I don't mind the movements she makes, but if her never ending micro-rubato makes any sense or if it's just pure kitsch and the whole pieces is falling apart in single eruptions which therefor make no sense.
@@rinforzato it's a pov. I found her rubato made sense. That sonata is also a fantasy and if played too straigth forward easly gets a bit long. I may not agree with all that she does, but i enjoyed the interpretation.
@@238assante Well, who says that it is a "fantasy"? The title on youtube?? Some marketing freaks from the 19th century? Who then says that you could kitsch as kitsch can in a Mozart-, Beethoven-, Mendelssohn- or even Schumann-Fantasy? And you do know the actual Schubert-Fantasy, right??? Yes, it might be a point of view, how much salt, or sugar in this case, you might ad to your Sonata, but taste is also a matter of good or bad. The latter leads to a complete mess of formal conception in music. It is in fact a matter of balancing emotions with a brain in charge!
Superb, musical playing of this extremely virtuosic work. This video deserves many, many more views and likes. I love that you have incorporated so much of the orchestral lines, just as Chopin might have performed it as a solo piece without orchestral accompaniment. Absolutely excellent! Congratulations!
MERCI
I have great respect to Mr. Korbin, but if he’s really concerned about injustices of wars and he wants to make a political statement he could make it, at least also , about Israel attacked by Hamas and struggling for its existence. Of course sympathy to Ukraine is more popular.
Ηer movements are pointless and exaggerated, and cause vertigo when you look at her. Also, she has very good technique but her playing is very neurotic. Primarily we want to hear the meaning of the music, not to see her theatrics. The character of this sonata is not the virtuosity but - as A. Brendel said once - "a peaceful wandering in the Austrian countryside...". Well, where is it ?
You should feel very proud of the sound. It must be hard to capture the piano sound of such an orchestral piece. I have always loved this piece, but I have heard so many recording disasters. The sound often gets thin and clattery. Your recording is really full-bodied which is exactly what this piece requires. A great recording of a truly great great performance.
P.S. I was writing about the recording of the whole piece. I much prefer the sound of that recording to this one. This one sounds thinner (is it?) which is more tiring on the ear.
Dear Sir Wolfgang Manz, you are made to play Romantic music ! I heard you when you were young, during the "Queen Elisabeth of Belgium international Music competition", 1983 as Laureate. Actually, you were already unique !!! Your piano playing is wide and free, deep feelings and infinite movement in your hands. Thank you for your career, i guess you gave so much to people. I received much from you by this early recording, and here i witness you kept the same shoulders as Rachmaninov.
