I went to highschool in Oroville and Jr high in Quincy. Lived a few places along highway 70 in the feather river canyon. I loved it there and want to go back when I retire. I miss the trains and the beautiful canyon places.
At the start, your caption stated the westbound from Sparks now going over the Clio trestle. This line is nowhere near Sparks, This and Donner parallel each other across Calif. & Nevada.
rode this route on original CA Zephyr with a tour group. I remember going thru the Feather River Canyon on WP. and I have did the SP route over the Sierras at Donner Pass too.
I worked as a Conductor going from Roseville Ca. to Portola through the Feather River Canyon with the Southern Pacific and now Union Pacific. Pretty scenery.
Awesome Video Thank you for posting. Hey everyone I would recommend watching this video. This video shows the entire Feather River Route! And so many trains & Locations. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e-w74uU6aQU.html
Can watch a video of trains nearly anywhere in the world for hours without hearing a single obnoxious horn, yet can't seem go ten seconds with American trains. Glad more and more areas of the country are banning horns, offering a far quieter future.
Now that the Panama Canal has been enlarged and even bigger container ships can go into Gulf of Mexico ports this container traffic will slow down even more.
Wonderful Feather River bridges in the canyon. Even though, they even added a fork in the trackside to which action diverges, like BNSF or UP. Especially, the original plan in 2019 was to have Big Boy 4014 and 844 steam doubleheader headin' over the canyons but they diverge only on Union Pacific line to downgrade. It was an amazing Feather River Canyon tour.
Amazing video to watch. Another piece of American railroad history, past and present. Great close-up's of those BNSF engines. Those railroad bridges are a real sight to see as well. Another great rail adventure. I'll have to watch this again. Thanks for one great video.
Back in the day, I remember the all streamlined, silver, California Zephyr storming out of the Feather River Canyon, reaching a top speed of 120 MPH. One of the most beautiful sights in the world!!
