Welcome to the O'Connor Woodworking RU-vid channel! My name is Jeff O'Connor and I started O'Connor Woodworking in 1998. For the past 22 years I have done woodworking and antique restoration as a side job as I am also an active duty U.S. Navy EOD (Bomb Squad) Master Chief stationed in Virginia Beach, VA. I love to work in all woods especially Walnut, Cocobolo, and Irish Bog Oak. I travel to Ireland on occasion to restock my Bog Oak. I hope you enjoy my Channel!!
Great shop sir, subscribed today after watching you and Rob with Marc and Nicole.... You have a fan from Croatia and love the tip you pass on on bringing lumber inside to aclimate.... That is old school trick that I learn in my trade school (woodworking/woodturning) and once again love the shop , specially your turning area.... Little inspiration moment, I'm production/pro turner and as you showed hokeypack from The purple heart, it would be great to see the vets to maybe turn from Purple heart wood a hocky pack.... If that would be ok,I would like to turn one and film it on my RU-vid channel and that way maybe promote the Purple heart foundation and since I don't have a way to give something, maybe U could inspire a few in my woodturning community. Have a great day sir
Thanks very much my friend! I think your idea is fantastic! Let me know once you’ve filmed it and I’ll post it and also send it to Rob. All the best to you!
Just started watching you. I’m pretty new at hand tools, but your friend Rob Cosman has really been great. I was doing power tool woodworking about 3 years ago. I’m maybe one of a few people who started woodworking at my age. I’m 80 years old now and was a software engineer until 2004 when the company went out of business and at 62 I figured that I wouldn’t get another job because of all the kids who have their hair on fire looking for work. So I retired. I’m also a retired USNR Chief Petty Officer Quartermaster, Submarine Qualified. 33 years active and reserve. Stephen Clingerman QMC(SS) USNR Ret.
O’Connor woodworking, sorry it took so long to subscribe, I’ve seen you in Robs chat at the PHP lives. actually wood by Wright put a link in his show notes. Nice shop !
just saw your shop tour and wanted to thank you for your service from one Vet to another. I'm in the process of getting into woodworking myself. I get a table saw and a planner and i think i can start building. hoping for a shop by christmas.
@@oconnorwoodworking thanks, My tather had a shop in the 80's and that awakened my love for the craft. but as is life i got away from it for far to long.
This is probably the best/ most relatable shop tour I’ve seen! Yes, your tools are top notch, but just something about your flow and how your shop was still in its natural state
Thanks for sharing. Love the shop. I am thinking about starting a channel with the encouragement of my son. I have building furniture for many years and have a great shop setup. What is stopping me is I am just very camera shy. Not too far away from you here in Powhatan.
Amazing workshop, looking forward to following you channel and learning along the way. I’m just starting out in my new woodworking hobby and you are an inspiration. Thank you for your service to our country!
@@oconnorwoodworking I mainly work on small items , garden planters cornhole boards, shelves… but I’m going to start building furniture for our house as soon as it is warm enough to work in my garage.
Great looking shop. I’ve made the switch to HSS for turning…steep learning curve, but definitely worth it, results are much better. I would highly recommend the Tormek it makes sharpening the gouges and other difficult tools a breeze.
Great space Jeff. Very excited about the content you're going to bring. If possible can you do a review on the blue spruce coping saw. I've been thinking of buying one but can't decide btw that and the Knew saws. Anyway good luck and thanks for your sacrifice and service.
Rob mentioned (=praised) you, and I had to come here, and now you have a new subscriber from Denmark. I've retired and new at woodworking, with a very low budget, and I spend a lot of time watching and learning from good people who put a lot of thought into their woodworking, especially in the winter when it's too cold to work in my tiny shop. By doing so, I've saved a lot of money not buying tools I would like to have but really don't need, and upgrading the ones I do need. And to do that, you have to be selective in finding the best woodworkers/channels you feel you can trust and pay attention! (Just like in life, right? ) Thank you for sharing 👍 Wish you and your family all the best in 2022 ❤
G’day Jeff, Aussie Vietnam Vet. I started woodworking as a hobby a few years ago. I started with mainly power tools but have recently after binging on Rob’s videos changing to mainly hand tools. This has changed my hobby to my main therapy. I have recently built Rob’s workbench and in the process of organising my shed (shop). I have also bought a Woodriver 51/2, 3/4 dovetail saw and a few other items from Rob. Postage to Australia is a bit slow and expensive but worth it. I love your presentation style and your shop Cheers Clive (Buck)
I was watching Rob Cosman videos, which I do lot, and he recommended your video. Glad he did, I am now a subscriber and look forward to more of your videos. Thanks Jeff and thank you for your service.
Hi Jeff congratulations on your new channel, I got sign posted here from watching Rob Cosman, I’m a keen hobbyist woodworker and looking forward to your videos. Im interested to know your Irish ☘️ connection as I’m from Galway in the West of Ireland but have lived in the UK now for 34years….
Great video! You have a great shop! I heard about you watching Rob Cosman’s Live shows. Good luck on your site. I am looking forward to watching more of your skills. Take care.
This is one recommended I don’t regret clicking on. Man hard to believe this is your first upload, you have a real calming quality. Best of luck going forward!
@@oconnorwoodworking I recently retired from the RCMP. I will be setting up a shop in the coming years. Current house isn't suitable for such. I like how you've planned out your workflow... something for me to keep in mind once I get there.
Ditto to most of the comments - so far about one hundred. You might otta re-think that replying to all of them. When it gets to about a couple hundred thousand remarks your hands are going to give out. Just kidding. Big Cosman fan so now you are also on my list.
Hi Jeff, you have a fantastic presentation style. I can see some great videos coming from you in the future. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Congratulations and all the best with your channel.
Hi Jeff, I've been a Cosman "groupie" ( I guess), for a few years now and am the proud owner of a Cosman Bench Crosscut Saw with a resin impregnated maple handle. Was that handle cooked by you? Are you the "Jeff" that Rob speaks of so often? I think it must be you! How awesome to put the person to the name. I had no idea that the whole impregnation took 3 days. Wow! Thank you for being an integral part of the saw handle process for Rob and those of us fortunate enough to own one. You have a fantastic shop and I will follow your layout plans in my own garage one day. Great tour, amazing machines and awesome talent there in Virginia Beach! Keep on keepin' on Jeff. Can't wait to see more of your videos!
Thanks very much for the support Sue! I am that Jeff! Rob has been a true mentor and friend to me and I feel extremely fortunate to have him in my life. If you're ever in Virginia Beach, stop by the shop! All the best, Jeff
@@oconnorwoodworking RN medic with the RM, much safer than EOD for sure. I retired in 2006 and have been enjoying the fully retired life since 2012. Loads of time to unwind whilst woodworking, it really helps. Love the look of your shop. Way more power tools than I can muster, but that is the good bit about woodworking. I share my shop with my Vmax and Belinda's car so space is limited, until we move house (soon) and I get my self built shop hopefully.
Good mix of hand and power tools! Power tools for all the boring tasks suck as resawing, ripping and dimensioning lumber and hand tools for the fun stuff.
