Dude, it's not a "transmission" - it's a "rear drive" (aka "differential") - big difference. And it is simply easier to pre-measure (and pre-pour) 8 OUNCES of oil and pour it into the rear drive reservoir with an appropriate funnel. Also, you can leave the top bolt on the oil filter cover partially screwed in, thus allowing the cover to hang from the bolt. Simply swing it out of the way to remove the oil filter. I found this easier than trying to place the cover on accurately with one hand, hold it in place, and insert/screw-in 3 bolts with the other hand. And lastly, just my personal recommendation, I use Shell Rotella T6 5W40 in both my scooters. No tougher oil on the planet. Get it at wallyworld for about $22 a gallon. And yes, you can use it in the rear drive also.
you should use JAMO spec motorcycle 4T oil....not car oil or energy conserving oil..fyi scooter /Motorcycle engines are hard on oil....I use diesel 15/w 40 ...has high Zinc content that we need in scooter engines...5k miles OCI
When you do an oil change for the Majesty 400 buy 2 liters. You will use the same oil on the transmission as on the engine oil. if you use 10w30 on engine, use 10w30 on the transmission. I use 10w40.
Been looking all over for the oil filter on my 2000 Yamaha Majesty 125. I mean does anyone know where it can be accessed on the motorcycle?? I know it sounds stupid but looked all over and there is no access panel for it :( Mentions in the manual "oil strainer" to clean it. Does not show where it is at all!
If you're not changing the filter, it will take less oil. I just put 1.5 qts, and it was plenty. Also, my manual states 10w-40. I used Castrol 4T motorcycle oil.
thanks for the great video ;) just one simple noob question i have = can i use 10W-40 - Synthetic ester based 4 stroke engine oil for all high performance motorcycles for both the transmission and motor ? in the manual it suggests using SAE10W30 for transmission but is more flexible on what can be used for the engine, you seem to have a good understanding of what will work so i thought id ask you here first ;)
