I met McRae at a Puma S1600 test day in Wales when we were asked to go along and test the car with Ford hopefuls. I bought a road version Racing Puma soon after. Patrick Magaud was there along with Martin Rowe. McRae turned up and gave some advice and kind words. We appeared in the 2000 Ford Racing Calendar along with McRae, Sainz and Co. I was navigating a KA! For Ian Forgan.
What a high quality production this video is! It's honestly of high enough standard to be on normal mainstream TV. Well done to the whole Special Stage team.
There isn't really a formula for it, within a limited set of rules you can pretty much do what you want, and power it with whatever you want, they then compete in various classes based on the engines, suspension etc. This car is built by Lofthouse Motorsport, who do build a similar design for each car but the engine is usually to the customer spec, this one is the first Rotary engine, the new owner of this car previously had one with a BMW M3 engine, others have used things like Jaguar engines. Check out our channel for the British Cross Country Championship and All Wheel Drive Championship videos and you will see some of the variety
When you say "The fastest tarmac rally drivers in the world" a bit of licence can be given for being lost in the excitement, but a few French guys might have something to say about that.😁
