I created an Umbrum OC several years back who was mistreated and unfairly judged by ponies due to being, well, an Umbrum. Where he was originally peaceful and generally benevolent, the way he was treated over a prolonged period of time caused him to completely snap, and adopt the viewpoint that there was no reason to try being anything better than the monster everyone saw him as. He doesn't necessarily want to be evil and sadistic, but he feels as if that's not his choice to make, so he might as well embrace the cruelty and be the worst possible person he can be.
My OC, Moonlily, is a unicorn herbalist. I used booth her name and job for her cutie mark. Lillies have medical properties, so I made her cutie mark a lily flower.
Also fun fact: for those of you who don't know just in case in my little pony friendship is magic the voice actor of spike cathy weseluck originally in my little pony pony life they did offer her the role of spike but she declined to return not because she didn't want to voice spike again is because she wanted to end voicing spike on friendship is magic so in MLP pony life they recast him so now spike is voiced by the voice of rarity Tabitha st germain
I actually have an alicorn oc she is called Windy'Bloom her backstory (Ima make this short) she lived in an alicorn world one day a evil shadow thing pony came (oh no) she found the shadow pony thing but some alicorns guards were also following the shadow pony thing and they found Windy'Bloom instead and thought she was the evil shadow pony so they went to alicorn judge and had a trial and he found Windy'Bloom guilty and worried she could ruin the alicorn city world thing and still the judge was one of the most powerful alicorns he took away Windy'Blooms horn and hide it away.... Thats as far as I got I'm lazy sorry
Never too late to comment! I personally love making non-pony OCs! I have a hippogriff who's themed after a phoenix, a griffon who's a snow leopard + raven hybrid, a draconequues, dragons, changlings, etc.! But man now I'm highkey inspired to look up obscure mythical creatures that we haven't seen in the MLP show to make it into an OC!
crying about someone else having an alicorn oc is pathetic to me, even if its a mary sue. its a shame so many people used to complain about people having fun.
I actually am watching this to help me out a bit. How's this OC? Name: Candy Apple Gender: Female Species: A tan earthpony with a red mane and tail (specifically filly) Personality: She's sweet, loves to help out, and likes hanging out with friends when she isn't busy Backstory: Candy Apple is one (of many) of the Apple family members. She lives at Sweet Apple Acres with Applejack who raised her from a newborn baby and she loves to help out on the farm, particularly with Applejack, due to the fact AJ and Candy have a strong connection and basically became a mom and daughter duo. Despite living with the Apple family she always felt different from the others, a factor in it was because unlike the others she wasn't a huge fan of baking/making apple pies, she loved getting the apples down from the trees but not putting them into pies. Fears: Candy has 3 fears (currently) which are: 1. Fear of the dark 2. Fear of being left alone 3. Fear of being near/touching anything with fire related items (Sorry it's so long she's a work in progress 😅)
I do have a Black, red (crimson) pony, what they are is a villain who pledged their life to a ancient fire and lit on fire, slowly melting as their bones burned to a black crisp, the more hatred in the world, the stronger they are.... so, they're not that strong considering the current state of equestria.
I mostly give my OC's Both positive, neutral and negative traits, the example Ill use is my alicorn OC, Agapi, who basically is "the alicorn of love" pre-Cadance, and was sealed away for 1000s of years by star swirl the bearded after he kinda almost went off the rails and almost made all ponies fall in love, he's energetic but annoying sometimes, proud but also very jealous of Cadance, a semi-perfectionist when it comes to shipping ponies with their soulmate using his bow and arrow that he got from an alternat Starswirl, he was around while Starswirl was teaching Celestia and Luna but turned to stone and he's flexible but not strong nor fast. and whats his backstory? Simple: he was left at an orphanage as a colt, and as a filly saw that the pony who ran the orphanage was in love with somepony, so he got them together and suddenly became an alicorn (and got his cutie mark).
There's One MLP villain Oc (who currently I haven't made an image for) I made who basically wants to become powerful, why? Because he was bullied as a filly, ran into the forest and got lost for a few days, saw bigger animals eat the weaker ones and learned that the strong eat the weak. what's his magic? absorbing ponies and their magic if hes within hoofs reach, what's his weakness? he can only fully absorb one pony at a time and if he keeps them absorbed for 2 years and then releases them, he'll copy their negative personality traits (after 3-4 years he copy's the positive traits instead. he also takes the body type of the absorbed (E.G if he absorbed Terik he would become a centar very similar to terik but with a mix of them).
One Good Idea for recolors is a "Faker" or a mistaken cloned char or somepony pretending to be them (But doing a VERY bad job), and if you just invert them, you could say its just in the character's mind as they slowly go insane.
Well with the only 2 Mlp Oc's that have cutie marks so far. One is a pink Alicorn that loves love so his is a heart. While one is a stalian who wants to be the most poweful by copying, stealing or absorving ponies magic, and when he absorbs a ponie he also takes their apperince, so normaly his cutie mark is a mask wearing a mask but it dose sligtly change depending on who he absorbed.
To be honest pony Life is still better than teen Titans Go, because teen Titans Go is like a way more disgusting than pony life and also they made Robin my second favorite character a punching bag also I couldn't watch teen Titans Go at all. I only watched the original teen Titans, pony life I don't mind it at least it's not that gross like teen Titans Go or made one character as a punching bag
I hate role playing with a mary sue. Last time when i was role playing as a medic that mary sue just claimed to have healing power (but she didn't mention it in her bio) she just took my role by healing everyone and not letting me have a chance to do my role as a medic. I was so mad so i left. That mary sue's role is heir/princess btw
In my opinion I think it's not that bad, at least it has messaging in this cartoon nowadays there's no messaging cartoons these days if you understand what I'm saying and also the dave are making this for fun and also it's better than teen Titans Go because they always bully Robin like a punching bag
Tbh for some reason when think of alicorn oc that are possible to make my mind instantly goes to plant 🤷♀️ I mean not that I made an alicorn oc that was plant based totally not 😅 (I did ._.) but I mean she wasn’t to over powered her weakness was fire and wind…kinda also bugs idk why but I named her wind bloom ._. Not to bad but still :/ Edit (btw I’m like in the middle of alicorn ocs they can be cool but over powered so it always depends and one last thing about uh wind bloom…she does have negative traits some of my personal favorites for some reason are, being impatient, can get stressed pretty easily, get annoyed really fast to, and one that I fit in that’s one of my negative traits .^. Being a procrastinator…yeah she sometimes put stuff off for later…like a lot)
i never really could think of a OC for mlp. in the past whenever i made on i was unhappy because it didn't scream me. that was until the Kirin's were introduced in the show and now i'm puzzling on how the make a good Kirin OC. this video really helped with that, thx.
I traced twilight to get the base of what a pony looks like cuz I have very shaky hands when it comes to starting from scratch. and I also changed up the head of the pony (it’s a male) does that count as recolour OC if I only traced it so I can get the base?
My Alicorn oc is named Riverflow, she is the Alicorn of water, controlling all water cycles in the world. She grew up as a princess in a small town north-West of the Crystal Empire called Sequoyia. She grew up in a broken home, but her siblings were always there for eachother. She always took passion in water animals. However, she grew extreme Social Anxiety, and became scared to even be approached by ponies she didn’t know. However, her Dad also made her stubborn and extremely blunt. However, she also has a soft spot and is great with hair-dos. After her evil father labeling her unfit to be an heir, she snuck to Equestria, moving underwater in Ponyville and using a necklace to make her horn very short, hiding her Alicorn status. Currently in her written backstory, she is hiding away from other ponies in Ponyville. She is also unknowingly the Element of Protection. (There has always been a 7th element here, and it is on tier with the majority of the Mane 6’s. For her appearance, she is a banana color with hoof and neck fur being blue. Her hair is also a short, flowy blue with specks of green and pink. Her eyes are green, and her cutie mark is a river. (Her passion for underwater creatures. She does not pay rent since she lives insides a river.)
I actually started making an alicorn oc myself, it may not be developed yet (For example all I've thought of is how she became one which is by inventing healing magic), but I'm quite pround of how she turned out :>
I know this video may be outdated, but I still like to share one of my opinions. I think its because the show features a lot of ponies, and a lot of the fandom content features a lot of ponies Like you said there are a lot of tutorials and bases on ponies, and because of that people are so used to drawing ponies that they dont want to step out of their comfort zone, because drawing ponies so familiar Or thats atleast how see some of it
I just made a new mlp oc. Here we go (I’m gonna torture y’all with my infodumping) My new mlp oc is a blue-grey stallion named Mallowkard Kitesky. He is an earth stallion in his early 20's who works at a library not too far away from ponyville, though he rarely talks (he’s selectively mute before you ask) and prefers to use sign language, and also has a mouth guard constantly covering his mouth (For context, his mouth has a giant slit scar (you know about that one Japanese urban legend? Y’know, the one about the girl with the slit in her mouth? That)). He had got the slit from an attack by another pony who had jumped him when he was younger and got him pretty badly in the mouth. His cutie mark is a blue kite, as he’s pretty much mastered the arts of kite design and crafting.

I made the cutie mark before the OC. A golden cog/gear with crossing swords. this OC is a crystal unicorn/alicorn that is a knight like fighter with advanced knowledge into magic mainly chronomancy (time magic)
