Dutched Shed Builds is my channel in which I will show you how I work on vintage motorcycles. With the help of youtube and other social media I hope to build or modify my own bikes and get in touch with others who do the same. And maybe I will inspire someone else to get building and learn new skills and to just do it.
Beside the work I do on the bike I also work on improving my shed, making my own tools as well as working on my skills as a diy-builder, editor, filmmaker and mechanic.
I hope you enjoy my video's and you can also find me on Instagram (@dutchedshedbuilds) If you like to support me in making my video's you can get merchandise (hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mug) from my E-bay store: www.ebay.com/usr/dutched-shed-builds or buy me products from my wishlist: www.amazon.nl/hz/wishlist/ls/3GCS8GNY2TBGX?ref_=wl_share

@@JJ-cb3om sorry to hear that. I havent had any issues so far. But the motogadget is a very good piece of kit also, i have installed it on my other gs450. Well over €400,- thats the downside.
I'm excited about the series up to the final one. Because I never considered that type of bike for me. So, maybe you will convince me sooner or later. ;) Thx! Ride safe.
I have a 1983 GW 1100 Standard I added a Vetter Fairing of that era it's a great ride, Thanks for sharing your insight on that wind screen as a alternative.
I'll try to post some thing soon again on the goldwing. Still have a lot on the carberators, exhaust and windscreen. Really nice to here it helps you with your Goldwing.
Water and 5-8% tickopur 33. There is also a different tickopur which is used if the aluminium has white oxidation (but i have not yet tried that). But the tickopur works great.
Please do M Unit installation on Royal Enfield GT or Interceptor 650....I am confused about connecting spark plugs TPS and Fuel injectors connections with M-Unit. Please do an explanation video.
@@dualstand1406 love to help but i do not have access to those bikes. And the big downside with motogadget is that they do not provide any help. Maybe consider NWT-cycletronic?
Did it exactly like this for my forks. The key is to do it gentle like you said. 👍 Works for bosses or other smaller contours as well. ;) These hacks can't be shown often enough. 🙂
Nice! I have this exact bike and I still deciding if I want to make it a cafe racer or restore it stock; but it is in really good shape and was a moto mechanic’s bike. This video helps me visualize what it could look like. Thank you!
You are more then welcome! hope to see the end result some day. The open-air-filters can be pretty hard to dail them in. So if you can keep the airbox. Good luck!
Do you have a slown down video of you reassembling the carbs? Because i have to clean the carbs on my gs450 and it is the first time i do something like this.
I dont think i have. If you are starting out I would highly recommend getting a service manual for your make/model. So a Haynes or Clymer manual. Those tell you exactly what to do. The carbs on a gs450 are very simple and basic. So just keep track of what you take off, check the manual for all the parts that are supposed to be there (because sometimes the previous owner skipped a part) and you should be fine. If i find a moment I'll try to make that video. If you have questions just let me know.
@@DutchedShedBuilds thanks a lot man, i will look for the manual then, I have a gs450s that my grandfother bougth 43 years ago and its been sitting 30 years, now i want to make it run again. Its the first time i do something like this and your videos are helping me a lot. Do you have any recomendations on how to clean the tank?
I have no idea but maybe it's possible to have 2 switchable mics, one inside helmet for talking and another on the bike out of the wind for engine sounds. Back in 1982 a mate had the cx500, i disliked how it looked then but it's growing on me in my old age.
The CX500 hasnt got the most tasty as far as the headlight and fairing at the front, i totally I agree. But the look of the engine (and reliabillty) are they biggest pro's. And its a lovely bike to ride. NOt to heavy, not to light. As far as the sound... combine input might be an option (maybe us a splitter for the mic?). But what im learning is that i will have to use a second device..
Great to see your comute. Tug the mic to the side instead of up. That might make a difference. And last but not least thanks for picking us up when in need of help. Best regards
Like it. Showing your tests and setups. I have seen some videos were a mic was placed under the seat. If you already considered that, forget my uneducated thoughts. ;) I agree, your voice is good for the vlogging thing. I'll wait for more. Thx
Thanks for that clean and straight forward video on this topic. I probably would have done the same mistake on the alignment of the right wheel. These marks are misleading. And a preserving polish is never a waste of time even with this patina.👍 Looking forward to the next one. 🙏🤘✌️
Thanks for the compliment, glad you liked it. It would love to have a polish-wheel to really get stuck in, but we cant have it all. For now all looked great and stayed great (in rain and cold weather riding)
@@DutchedShedBuilds new bolts nuts and washers and clean threads before installing anything in a old bike , great video by the way very helpful, thank you!
Hey Gérôme ! (hope the spelling is right) I have the same engine waiting for me. After the bike is build right... 😏 Thanks for the tipp! I still have no clue of the colours of the engine... But there should be some polished elements. Cheers! Martin
Agreed. Because those can be really hard to get on and off. Its good to know that underneath the airfilter there is a adjuster in the cable to get some slack (not much). Also its important to really free the carb up as much as you can before you remove the cables.
I used a very simple (cheap) oilpump from a local supermarket/hardware store. There was hardly any fuel left in the tank. If you cant find a pump then use the 2nd method i showed with an aircompressor. Thats the safest way, but you will need and aircomprosser (even a small one will do)
Leuk om te zien! ik heb dit weekend een CX500 Eurosport gekocht in heel veel stukjes (volledig uit elkaar gehaald). dus ik denk dat ik een hoop aan te filmpjes ga hebben.
Coils are a major source of problems on older machines and I usually always change them as a matter of course as testing them properly is not as easy as folks think!
@@johnrocker2986 coils were at my attention but just swapping out (potentially good parts) is something i wanted to avoid. The video is a while Ago and the coils themselves where not the issue and are still working fine to this day.
@@DutchedShedBuildsthe thing with coils is spark degradation over time usually caused by age but checking needs very expensive and precise equipment and cannot be tested by eye, but can throw up numerous running issues unless they are 100%
Thanks for your helpful video. I bought a nice eBay '82 CX500 and rode it 200km home with fuel leaking from the left carb all the way. Didn't find out until I I stopped. Got the carbs off, cleaned them and changed the float needles. All good so set off on a 300km ride but went onto one cylinder not far from home. Limped back. Carbs off again. Float needle stuck. Cleaned and reassembled and now running great. This seems to be a rite of passage for CX500 newbies 😂
Seems like it my friend. These types of bikes need attention and love. Not a problem if you like a bit of wrenching every now and then. Glad to hear you got your bike running, you learned along the way, and thanks for watching!
Well done! Improvised but sometimes it's about keeping it running. And the wiring isn't improvised at all. BJ's merch again... ;) 👍 all these GS450-boys. ;) 🙏🤘✌️
Yep, keep ‘em running. And im dutch so if we can do it cheap.. 😊. I installed before the DGR2024 and it worked perfectly. Too bad I couldnt somehow fix the old one.
Hi, do you have any advice on upgrading the headlight? 82 gs450l here. My carb is off now. Im also confused on finding the right plugs. Seems like I have to change the caps because I can't find threaded terminal ends on the plugs.
Hi Rob, upgrading the headlight to led will require an additional led-resistor. But i used the motogadget and that takes care of that issue. Other then that you can put on any light you want. Not sure what you mean with the threaded plugs, the plugs have pins in them and you just twist them on to the sparkplug wire. The caps are usually sold as a complete unit. Just turn them straight on fresh wire. They self tap so to speak. Hope that helps. You are welcome to dm me on instagram of via my website
@DutchedShedBuilds when I got this bike in the spring, I thought I had issues with my petcock because it would not turn. Now that I replaced that if I ever leave it in the prime position with a bike off gravity will take fuel all the way through the engine and I have to change the oil every time. I have to really make sure that it is in the on position at rest.
Do you recall what coils you used when you replaced the originals? I have a CX with a misfire and I'm pretty sure it's a coil issue. Replacement originals are nowhere to be found!
I never replaced the originals with aftermarket ones. The ones I used to test them were originals also. And in the end I never swapped the old ones as they were not the issue in this case. Dont know where you live but here in Holland they are fairly easy to come by (second hand and new)
Top spul!
Thanks for sharing the show! For all of us who couldn't be there. I really share your appreciation of the building itself! And of course there are a lot of cool bikes. 👍🙏 Cool thing to do with dads. 🙂✌️
You are more than welcome! The building is really cool. The entire area is to be honest. Maybe you could go and have look yourself at some point in time!
