No the Shillelagh hanging up does not make you look like a terrible people. It should be hailed as a symbol of all that is to be thought of the Irish strong, steady, and true.
Sad if all you have is a stick to defend yourself. I am innthe states & love the history ofva proper shillelagh that can be a true formidable weapon. Mine was made by Liam or his son Denis O'Caidhla in Shillelagh. I look.forward to carrying & trainingbwith it. I was on the Rathdrum Trout Anglers Club Committee, who raised the funds to build the unfortunate Foot-Stick Bridge when Hurricane Charlie, hit in 1986. It was opened by Frank Hall who cut the ribbon to officially declare the bridge fit for public use. ..... .Kind regards. Joseph. D.

Terry worked on Halls Pictorial Weekly, creating his unique style of "Toilet Humour" hence the connection to the launch and Grand Opening Ceremony of Rathdrum Cartoon Festival by Frank Hall. Launched by releasing a flock of young Mallard Ducks from the Newly constructed Footstick wooden bridge created a seldom seen spectacle, wildly attended by hundreds of people . The motor bike rider who is carrying another camera-man as a pillion passenger, sitting backwards on the back of his motor bike has his eyes fixed firmly on the "Swallow" wondering what will happen if they collide.? Worse case scenario. "Shock & horror" Stop the video recording and view the outcome as the Swallow soars away, & lives to "BOMB" ANOTHER DAY!!

The total devastation from "Hurricane Charlie" in 1986 not alone in Ireland, but England when in the 7 oaks forest, massive trees hundreds of years old, some up to 300 years of age were uprooted by that fierce torrential rain and winds up to 200 mph during Tuesday, & night & Wednesday of that fateful Spring. What about all the bridges in Wicklow that were washed away,"The beautiful brand new wooden Footstick bridge over the Avonmore river in Rathdrum, provided by a hard working fundraising committee of "Rathdrum Trout Anglers Club" and build by hard working local Fas men, including Jack Bolton R.I.P.who said it was his pride & joy, also including the famous "Lions Arch" which was replaced by the army with a temporary metal "Bailey" bridge.
I most certainly do recall. Especially since 1986 was the year I decided to go back to school, after the Army, and bouncing around all sorts of odd jobs. I wonder how all the people I knew back then are doing, since I haven't seen most of them in nearly 30 years now...
