Piece work is when you are payed by finished piece of whatever it is you make. You seem to associate it with a 'piece' of time, such as day jobs. I am fairly confident that the pieces are finished pieces or items of whatever your specific guild or craft makes, i.e. pottery, clothing items, tapestries, etc.

This was brilliant! I’m sorry I’ve only found your channel now. I hope you make more videos about your knitting history knowledge. The Master Knitter programme sounds fascinating but well beyond me. I’m shocked you don’t have more views but that’s the algorithm. 😅

Thanks for your videos. Someone may already have told you, but the Marius patterna was designed in the 50s by a Norwegian woman called Unn Soiland. But you got the connection to Marius Eriksen right. Unn Soiland was a fascinating woman, constantly knitting, even when driving her car, the legend goes.

Thanks for the info! I try to be careful and research everything I talk about and I'm always scared I will get something wrong. I look forward to learning more about Unn Soiland.

I've been using KnitPicks Palette because it comes in a lot of different colors and is pretty afordable. For this project I bought a large pack of minis.

I am Currently doing the master knitter program. I am left handed however i knit right handed anyway so it was easy to follow the patter. i appreciate you knitted left and changed the pattern so it looks right knitted.
@haxtonknits
@haxtonknits 6 месяцев назад
I'm glad you found this helpful. I didn't have too many problems with being left handed until the last level of the master knitter program. I think I had a different evaluator for that level and they asked me to create long tail cast ons that lean the correct direction, none of the prior 2 levels noticed that.

Love your tutorial. Does it work for crochet? I want bugs bunny on a duster back.
@haxtonknits
@haxtonknits 6 месяцев назад
I don't crochet much but I think it would work, you will have to consider the size of the crochet stitch, some stitches are more like a tall rectangle then a square so you might see some strange elongation of your image. Try it and see.

I am getting all settled in. I'm ashamed to say I haven't made any videos in a while... it's time to start again! I'm still exploring the German sheep but I did just get back from a trip to the Shetland Islands so of course I have lots of sheepy goodness from that trip to share.

I got offer as a GS 12 step 1 ($74500) + housing allowance, I wondered with that amount of salary will I be able to live comfortably with the family of 4? Thank you in advance. I’m still thinking about this offer. I don’t know if it’s worth the move. Any advices would mean a lot to me. Thank you.
@haxtonknits
@haxtonknits Год назад
I'm sorry I'm so late getting to this. I'm not in the GS system but I think you will be comfortable in Okinawa for that price. The housing in Okinawa is over priced, the house you see in my video is thanks to both my husband and I having a housing allowance and the cost of electricity is very high. So keep that in mind when you are house hunting, just because you can afford a bigger house maybe you don't want one because the cost of cooling it will be so expensive. We kept only the air conditioner in the living room and the main bedroom on and our electric was never under $300. But once you get past the housing, the food and groceries are pretty affordable. I like going to the farmers markets and the fish markets when I can. The commissary on Camp Foster is the best option for on base shopping and meats but the produce is expensive. Another tip for housing, if you don't mind a Japanese style house go to one of the agencies that doesn't work with a lot of Americans and you will find much lower cost houses. But a Japanese style house may not come with a an oven, just a range and a tiny fish over. Tatami mats are pretty but they can be expensive to replace, don't let your kids or pets tear them up.
@kdolguin
@kdolguin Год назад
It’s ugly becuz of the cement walls. It looks unfinished by American standards. Thank you for the tour. Very interesting to see the difference in other cultures.
@haxtonknits
@haxtonknits Год назад
The cement walls are interesting. Most of the houses I viewed while house hunting had this thin old fashioned style wall paper but there has been a trend of houses looking like this one being built. Almost everything here is cement because of the frequent typhoons.

So far I'm enjoying it a lot here...it may sound funny but the thing I'm struggling with most is driving! Going from the left side of the road in Okinawa, and new street signs, and different merging rules... plus the round-abouts! Several times I thought I knew where I was but turned off a round-about in the wrong place and ended up lost.
