I know this guitar very well. I had one of the same color that I bought secondhand, in 1970. When he says, at 5:27: "Middle series." This guitar does not have the possibility of connecting both pickups in series. When both pickups are connected, it is always in parallel.

Hey, Yeah I was exclusive mastery for quite a while but I prefer the staytrem feel under my palm when I'm resting on the bridge or palm muting. It's a small thing but can annoy me from time to time haha. I switch it up from time to time, It is nice to have multiple options :) The sound is different. I guess it depends if you like the solid fixed posts or rocking bridge. One is thinner and precussive the other fuller and more like a solid body. I thought to keep it original sounding so its rocking staytrem for this Jag.

Hey! Thanks for the great video. I’m currently looking at the vintage 60s mustangs and jaguars trying to decide which one would best suit me. I know you also have that beautiful 64 jag from your other video. Curious, if you had to pick between the 2 as your main guitar which would you pick and why? I know it has a lot to do with preference, and the jaguars are usually a bit more expensive, but interested in you’re insight having both. Thanks!
@NickLoopsGuitar
@NickLoopsGuitar 6 месяцев назад
Hey man , thanks for the comment :) I would say I have used my mustang more than either of my Jags for professional use. It is a more straightforward guitar. When i use to play live in a cover band, playing 3hr sets I always felt more comfortable on the mustang. I felt like less could go wrong regarding the trem and setup. It also sits nicer on your body when standing in my opinion. It's smaller and easier for me to carry around to teach my students. The string tension is greater on the mustang due to the distance from the bridge to trem being shorter. This can be a point to keep in mind. Jaguar pickups are a little louder and stronger, they sound fuller and richer. The trem has more range and is easier to control. I find the mustang being a little quieter doesn't get as rash when used with higher gain too and could suit a wider range of music. Saying all this if I had to get rid of all my guitars but one, Id be keeping the 64 Jag. It's just my favourite sound and the trem design is the best out there. Sure it wont do ever genre justice but at home playing by yourself in your own style that doesn't matter all to much. If choosing either I would always be going for the original designs so your 60s options are a great choice. Make sure you get it set up well! The cost is probably only different due to having a few more electronics and a cutaway on the body. That's all I can think of anyways haha. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask and I can do my best to answer!
@waterfallstrainer

@@NickLoopsGuitar Super cool. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts about each! I ended up stopping by a local guitar shop to get some experience playing them. Ive played/owned a few reissues of Jags and Mustangs but not much of the real vintage originals, so it was good to get a couple in my hand. Long story short I don’t think I’ll beat the Mustang feel. You’re right about the body size being much more comfortable. And this specific vintage mustang neck felt so right. The jag neck felt thick, at least the one I tried. Although I did like the fullness of the jaguar pickups. That’s the only thing I really missed on the Mustang. I’ve noticed some people rewind vintage mustang pickups to be a bit hotter. Wonder if that’s a good solution. Anyway, thanks again! Keep enjoying those beautiful guitars.
@NickLoopsGuitar
@NickLoopsGuitar 6 месяцев назад
@@waterfallstrainer Awesome no worries, glad to hear you got your guitar :) I think you have made the right choice given what you have said. 90% of guitar playing is how the neck feels anyways. Maybe someone makes some fuller sounding mustang pickups? tbh though i think some of it just has to do with the construction of a mustang.

Question, on the "current" production lines (from Squier Bullet, CV, Fender Player) what would be the one you have seen /feel the closest to yours???? I really want a 'stang but cant make my mind over how expensive the ones with all the features get. 😮 0:32 is it the light or the fret wire is cut shorter than the width of the board?
@NickLoopsGuitar
@NickLoopsGuitar 7 месяцев назад
The frets are so worn and rounded on the edges it looks like they are short but really they are just rolled. They barley leave the wood. I need to get it re-fret but I love how it plays currently.
@NickLoopsGuitar
@NickLoopsGuitar 7 месяцев назад
Having a look at those three options, id choose based on what pickup/bridge your after. Personally, I'd go with a traditional mustang layout, so the MIJ traditional mustang, classic vibe or Vintera. Depending how it plays id slowly swap out parts for better quality. Mainly the pickups or the tailpiece if ur a big user of the trem. Electronics should be fine on all of them, so to the bridge :)

Not sure what is bedroom levels, kinda varies from person to person. For me, Vol at 3-3.5 with pick up at 8-10 and a touch of tremolo works good, anything higher than 4 it will be loud enough to go outside the confines of Bedroom. Lower volume and a screamer and or overdrive at lower levels, it still rocks. @7171jay 11 месяцев назад
I see you are plugged into input number two... do you realize that input number one has a bit more gain? Often with Fender amps that have this high/low input setup some people will use input one for single coils guitars (to get more gain) and number two for humbuckers to get somewhat cleaner sounds if that is what they are after. Use whichever you like with whatever type of pickups but it's good to realize what is actually going on there. Input two also loads the pickup a bit so you lose a bit of highs compared to input one. Cool amp and nice sounds you are getting out of it. Disconnecting the speaker and running a cab with larger speaker(s) can be really nice too. The small cab of the Champ and the little 8" speaker are a bit limiting compared to say a 12" speaker but as you already know it can sound pretty cool as is. 👍
@NickLoopsGuitar
@NickLoopsGuitar 11 месяцев назад
I've always though that input 2 was just quieter I didn't realise that they influenced break up, thanks for the tip! I always prefered no2 on my 65 deluxe reissue. I never actually new why. I've heard that a 12" can sound real good. For now I like having the two extremes a 15" amp and an 8" one. Not having heard the original speaker this new G8C seems to be providing low end omph that I've heard these amps normally lack. Finding a 12" cab with 4ohm is tough but if one pops up ill probably try it out or eventually make one myself. If im being honest im not a big fan of how the humbuckers sound. Its a bit scooped. Dont know if it's my settings, the guitar, or the nature of the amp. But its more so than other fenders i've played. Thanks for the comment :) And for watching!
@7171jay
@7171jay 11 месяцев назад
Input two does indeed have less gain (not just quieter) as the guitar signal is lowered before it even hits the preamp tube. Cool sounds you are getting with the Jag but the clean sounds with the humbuckers I think could be better. Maybe try the humbuckers into input one and lower the volume on the guitar a bit to keep it clean. I know that sounds backwards from what I was saying before but input two although it lowers the gain also changes the sound of the guitar a bit and with the higher impedance humbuckers the tone may be suffering from the loading. Input one has more gain but less loading so using that with the humbuckers and simply rolling back the guitar volume might get you there. How does your Gibson do rolling it's volume down? Does it have vintage style wiring or a treble bleed cap?
@NickLoopsGuitar
@NickLoopsGuitar 11 месяцев назад
@@7171jay Thanks re: Jag sounds I'm fairly sure its vintage spec wiring. I'll give it a go. It just sounded scooped and bitey on the treble. Generally, I'm not one to mess with my volume pot all to much. But for the sounds I shall experiment! The input stuff makes sense to me, that was a good explanation.

Great guitar! I have the same model from 2001. It's easily my favorite guitar feel-wise, tone-wise and because of how it looks. You're right that it's quite heavy...mine is 10lbs. on the nose. I think part of the reason it sounds so good is the combination of the solid mahogany body and ebony fretboard and the pickups which are definitely '57 Classics. You stated that your guitar has Custombuckers which I think you might be mistaken about if yours is a 2003 model. Custombuckers didn't come out until much later. I think yours either have '57 Classics or possibly Burstbuckers. Also, did you change the volume and tone knobs? It looks like your has 60's-style reflector knobs rather than 50's-style top hat knobs.
@NickLoopsGuitar
@NickLoopsGuitar 11 месяцев назад
Aha! You spotted what I forgot to mention. Yes I changed the knobs the ones that were on it were smashed. So I bought these ones as replacements. I thought I preferred the look of them more but I might have to buy the original type ones as I'm not sold. My knowledge on the pickups is very slim so you are probably correct. It had a 498T in the neck when I bought it. To be honest, the moment I got it I swapped the original pickup back in, the 498t looked out of place being so bright gold. I don't remember what it was called. I have a feeling it was a Burstbucker but It could have been a classic 57'. My Gibson knowledge is so bad... I tend to think that the all, 'solid', mahogany body is what makes these guitars so different and special. I feel like their sound is less muddy and more clear than regular Les Pauls. The difference between rosewood and ebony is not as great as between maple and rosewood in my opinion but that could be playing a part as well. Thanks for listening and commenting, it means a lot! :) I love talking about guitars. Does your 2001 have the aged binding? or is it similar to mine? a little more subdued. Are you a top-wrap player too?
@markn4526
@markn4526 11 месяцев назад
I'm a big fan of original '57 Classics because their design supposedly changed after the introduction of the Burstbuckers. The Custombuckers may be more authentic to original PAF's, but I prefer the '57's. I agree with you about the 498T being out of place, especially in the neck position. I believe that an ebony fretboard adds more to the tone that a lot of people think. Ebony adds brightness and clarity to the notes and definition to the chords. I'm a rosewood fan too especially with a mahogany back/maple top LP-style guitar. A maple fretboard, to me, adds upper mids with a Strat-style guitar compared to rosewood which adds low mids. Mine didn't have aged binding when I bought it new in 2001 which was purely an impulse buy as I didn't plan on buying a guitar that day. I'm sure glad I did though! The binding has aged considerably though in 22 years. The guitar looks very authentic because I've played it so much over the years. I took it into a local Guitar Center a couple of years ago to use it to check out an amp I was thinking about buying and I had a customer there at the time as well as the salesperson convinced it was really a '57. I've experimented with top-wrapping but I didn't care for the feel, tone or the way it looked. A lot of players swear by it though. Varying the string break-angle at the bridge can make a pretty big difference in tone and feel. I like the adjustability of the stop tailpiece used as intended. Cheers!

Thanks! I thought I wanted one with that mustard binding some of them have but I think Im happy with how this one looks now. Im trying to play to show the guitar tones I hope that comes across, I just need to work on my audio levels. RU-vid compresses stuff in weird ways.

Couldn't think of what to play haha, Weezer it is. What do you prefer? To hear the same thing on each pick up or for the person to just be creative the whole video?

@@NickLoopsGuitar personally, i prefer hearing parts of the songs or whole songs. That inspires me to keep playing and learning. There is something about a guitar sound that almost makes all other instruments superfluous.
