I am Alyssa from Melbourne, Australia. I work the 9-5 so my videos are currently inconsistent while I figure out how to film and edit, and battle the extremely slow internet at my place to upload videos.
My channel will document DIYs, home/ room makeovers and reviews of courses that I have completed or are completing. I am a sucker for learning and want to help people who are interested in the same things to make your life easier!
If I’ve helped you in anyway, you’re welcome to send a tip to support the time I’ve put into supporting you! ko-fi.com/alyssanga
Does this tutorial only apply to Sketchup Free? I purchased Sketch Up Pro 2024 and I cant really follow along, a lot of what you are doing/things you are clicking on I cant see to find?
Hi Alyssa. Thank you for creating these videos, they have been extremely helpful. I have been struggling with the assignment for a while now, and I am very grateful to have found your videos. Looking forward to learning and growing together :)
Your zafu looks too full to me! No wonder it was too hard. You can often let out some of the buckwheat (to taste) in order to make it more comfortable.
You’re my online tutor, thank youuuuu, this is helpful. I literally cried after trying to get this assignment started after 2 weeks of forcing myself to SIT AND READ all that info in the lesson.
Hello Alyssa, Thank you for all of your help so far! One issue I am having is that part of my outside wall is not paintable for some reason...It is grey and won't accept paint. Thank you.
Oh no! Yes you need it to be white for a solid wall. Grey is like a hole. You may need to redraw it to make sure the wall is all there. Otherwise you can hack it by drawing a rectangle over the grey. But this may impact the future of the drawing if you want to do 3D drawings.
Loving youtube IDI posts ALyssa - you are a great teacher .... are you planning to upload content for the further modules off IDI? Hope so 🙏. Have you finished the course yet yourself?? Love your mentoring - are you on Insta ? Thanks for your brilliant content 👏👏👏🙌🙌. Cheers
Thanks Kate. I really hope that the videos are helpful. Yes I must keep uploading but I’m finding the motivation hard. You have encouraged me! Yes I finished the certificate at the end of 2022 before my course expired. I crammed my final modules into 4 weeks!
So chuffed I’ve found you Alyssa. Just started course. Located melbourne too - Brunswick. Love ur work. Thx so much for this content … really 🙌🙌 Have u finished it now?? Cheers Kate
Awesome! Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it and it was helpful. Yes I finished this at the end of 2022 with like 4 weeks to go. The deadline really motivated me! Hello neighbour!
This is exactly what I'm looking for too. I have sliding doors currently and want to make them 10 -15cm shorter and hinged. Did they all line up ok ok? Also when you cut the doors was there a raw edge that needed to be primed or painted?
Yes they all lined up perfectly fortunately. I look at them now and am still amazed how well they lined up. Yes there is a raw edge and they need to be primed and painted.
You are so inspirational Alyssa, I have learnt so much from you. I find your pace and tone are great for someone who is so new to all of this. Thanks again
I'm so glad! I really wanted to help people who are returning to study after a long hiatus. This feedback is great to hear. Good luck with your studies!
Hey Alyssa, thank you so much for all your videos as it helped me a lot especially in module 4. As the course provides only digital booklet, your videos become extremely helpful. I am hoping see your next modules videos soon.
when I clicked the free sketch up link it took me to a "mcafee antivirus" screen and it said I clicked a link that has infected with a virus? Can you double check if the link is working properly? It didn't take me to a sketch up website link.
You can search “SketchUp Free version” into your google and find it that way. I’m sure the settings on your computer have made McAfee pop up others haven’t had the same problem. Here is the link again which I got from typing in the above into google. www.sketchup.com/en/plans-and-pricing/sketchup-free
Thank you so much for taking the time to create your videos! However, can I make one suggestion? The video is a little blurry and I can't quite see what tool (left side of the screen) or viewer (right side selections of the screen) you're choosing. You will mention the name but if you could make a comment about what the tool/viewer looks like that would be most appreciated. I also noticed that your version of sketchup free is slightly different from the 2024 version; the tool description or viewer name (because the right side selection has the names clearly indicated) could be very helpful for future students and hopefully your videos can stay relevant for students far down the road.
Thank you, Alyssa. I can't begin to describe how helpful and relaxing your tutorials are. You've helped me big time through Mod 4 & 5. I purchased your SKP files, bought you a coffee and let all the ads play, so hopefully you're getting reimbursed for all your hard-work. Just wanted to say thank you!!
Hi Alyssa Thank you so much for the videos :) I'm a bit stuck at the point where we are suppose to take a snapshot and get the drawing into Power Point. When I fit my drawing to the screen (In SketchUp) the details are still a bit small and my measurements end up overlapping and details on for example my sliding doors are very blurry... Any advise here please?
Yes I can see what you mean if you’re using a small screen like on a laptop. I suggest hiding all the menu and footer bars, making the image as big as you can get it then screen shot it there. If your screen is still too small maybe you’ll need to go to the library to use a larger monitor. The library is always free.
Thank you! I hope the additional files helped you. Yes I had this problem too and I had to google why it was going grey myself. I think I just had to redraw it and make sure I wasn’t overlapping sections. I think the grey means there’s no floor? You could draw a giant rectangle on top then move it back so it becomes the floor. I’ve done that before and it’s a bit of a hack because then the layers aren’t connected anymore so when you want to get onto 3D stuff it’s impossible. So redrawing was the easiest way. It’s not what you want to hear sorry!
Hi Alyssa, I'm curious, are you planning on releasing modules 7+. Your previous videos have been a great help, including navigating the various software programs. Much appreciated, KP
First of all, thanks for the guide videos! FYI (took me some time to figure out as well): offsets of dimensions provided by IDI are the 'real' measurements in mm, as if they would be drawn on paper, not scaled to 1:50; so for the Sketchup they should be multiplied by 50: 15mm -> 750mm, 10mm ->500mm.
Hi Alyssa! Thank you so much for posting these videos they have been such a great help! I followed all the instructions on your videos for assignment 4 and the feedback I got from my tutor was this: Thanks for your assignment 4, however, please review the size of your plan. Even the dimensions are correct, the proportion is wrong - it looks like this has been squeezed. Look at the existing plan provided in the module, the shape is almost rectangular and it should take more space in an A3 sheet. You should review this because the proportion of rooms is not right either. You should also make sure that the size and position of the stairs and the room by the stairs remain intact. I don’t know what I have done wrong or where to start? I’d appreciate any guidance or advice please? Many thanks x I have reset your assignment for you to review the above.
Without seeing your drawing I can’t say. I do remember one of the times I started this module I drew the floor plan the wrong way! So I had to redraw the whole thing. Maybe the transfer to the title block was not pasted correctly and pulled in the wrong places so it warped the image? I would paste the image as it is and only pull the corner pulls to make sure the proportions remain.
To copy the stairs iso creating one by one, you can create the first stair line, then select it, then when using the move tool and on Mac click 'option' button, after placing the new stair line type '11x' to repeat the line enough times to cover all the stairs. (Just learnt that in Sketchup Fundamentals)
From memory I think it is but the quality of food is exceptionally better. Walmart food was all frozen including veges and meat which we aren’t used to as Australians.
I did buy mine online from ASOS I think, they were an Australian brand called Ares. However Target have 100% linen clothes which I have a few sets of and have travelled in extensively which are affordable and excellent quality.
Press and hold Tab until the dimension box is highlighted. Once highlighted hold it until you type your first number then release. I had to figure it out because NO ONE did a video on it 😢
Thanks for the response! I didn’t have that issue when I was using it, I clicked in the box and was able to type the dimensions. I’m not sure if it’s different for Mac and PC either. So thanks again for your help!
I’m so glad you were able to find the channel! I hope it’s been helpful. Yes i went straight to SketchUp. I had dabbled in it a little bit plus years ago I had used autoCAD so I felt confident to try it.
Hi...firstly Thanks for all the vids! When I try to hilight the whole chart to remove lines I think i have, then go to format but table is in faint text so cant click on it...not sure whats going wrong...help!
Are you also using google docs? I’m not sure why it’s not letting you format it, I’m so sorry to hear. Maybe highlight and then right click your mouse to see if that works, instead of going to the format menu
Hi, how are you!! It has been a year since you posted this video. Wondering how are you doing and would love to see more about your result on M$M course. Thanks
Hi! I struggled tbh with getting success with my e-commerce business. I used a few modules from the course to try help with marketing and email campaigns but I didn’t get the traffic to make sales. I was starting from scratch so it’s very hard!
