I’m now 4 months into medical ketogenic therapy for my rapid cycling bipolar 1 with mixed episodes. I used to have 4-5 episodes a year which was really debilitating and now as my psychotherapist says I am thriving. My antipsychotic medication has been reduced from 400mg to 150mg (and my psychiatrist told me if all is well in two weeks I will go down to 100mg). I’m getting projects finished, something I could never do before. I have lost 11kg, my training is now regular and I am now a healthy body weight. Your research along with doctor Palmer’s kept me motivated in the early days of my transformation as did Hannah and Lauren Kennedy’s stories. I also have to say pre-keto I was extremely skeptical, even as far as feeling offended that this would work and even the concept that something so simple as food could balance me out. If you are reading this and are feeling in such a way I would encourage you to read more and trust the process, of course under the supervision of your doctor.

Thank you both for sharing your story. The lifestyle changes are so interesting - Diet, Sleep, and Exercise. Adherence is hard. I love the fact that your goal is to keep your life stable and help others. I'm a Mum who is obsessed with research on the ketogenic diet attempting to help my 19-year-old son. He has definitely had some scary adventures! We are just beginning the keto journey and I am hoping this will be a helpful treatment. Hope that he too can enjoy "normal simple". Love this channel. So helpful for someone like me.

I have just found this channel 🤗🤗 My son who is 19 has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. He has finally agreed to give Keto a go. Thank you so much for sharing your stories. I have read Dr Palmers book Brain Energy. Having a Mum who was medicated for schizophrenia all her life, this research cant come quick enough. Im pushing my sons doctor to take this diet seriously...unfortunately he believes my son needs to be medicated for the rest of his life. These doctors so need to be taught about nutrition. Cant wait to watch the rest of the episodes. Keep up the great work!!!

Have you guys heard of no carb life, a RU-vid channel with Dave mack? He uses his platform to tell the perfect personal stories people who are following a carnivore diet or a low-carb diet. Many of his guests also recover from mental health challenges as a result of the ketones . It is so powerful hearing personal stories. And I'm glad you guys are doing something similar for keto and bipolar. I'm sure many of the guest he's had could also go on your show. Some of them had pretty serious mental illnesses that they've recovered from. Thanks for providing hope for all the bipolar patients out there

I'm a therapist who has known for many years how important it is to have a healthy diet for moods but most of my clients have no interest in learning this. Listening to this interview and others like it have encouraged me to find ways to educate people on the huge importance of nutritional support and low carb way of eating. For the brain to help with moods

I wasn't going to watch this because I've heard Hannah's story before but I'm glad I did - there were lots of new insights I gained and wonderful questions and answers that were shared. As always, you guys are inspiring and transparent. A lot is relatable like the experiences in psych wards and being paranoid while on keto about sleep/relapse. It's fascinating about fasting - I do intermittent fasting b/c I don't like eating breakfast. Thank you for another time-worthy interview and looking forward to what you do next. I've been on keto since December 2023, and while there were slight positive gains starting after 2-3 months, there were still overall negative symptoms I was experiencing and I started to taper my medicine olanzapine before I actually felt better and just learned a couple days ago that olanzapine leaves the brain quicker on keto so my keto coach and I definitely think withdrawal has been at play in how I've been feeling b/c I've been told I'm tapering quicker than I think. But there are other variables and it's frustrating you can still have side effects of a medication while you taper off of it. Starting about 7 months into keto, I noticed stronger improvements and now 8 months in, finally clicking with what people say when they admit that they feel like their old selves and I just believe it can even get better as I continue to taper. So, I definitely think you should stick with keto for maybe up to a year to notice the best benefits.

My daughter is bipolar and has gone overboard with coffee. I feel it’s better to stay away from coffee (caffeine) because she can’t control it once she starts.
@dyaneharwood2023
@dyaneharwood2023 Месяц назад
I understand how your daughter reacts to coffee/caffeine. It's hard to go cold turkey with cutting it out; do you think your daughter might be willing to try decaf coffee or green tea (less caffeine than coffee; very healthy in moderation. According to the Healthline website, "Coffee generally has more caffeine than green tea, but the amount can vary depending on the brewing method and the type of coffee or tea. An 8-ounce cup of coffee typically has 80-100 milligrams of caffeine, while an 8-ounce cup of green tea has 30-50 milligrams. However, green tea's caffeine is balanced by the amino acid L-theanine, which can help you feel more focused and less anxious. This can lead to a more stable energy boost that's less likely to cause jitters or crashes.

Former public school teacher here. It is worse than "nutrition is not taught in schools". In fact, "nutrition" is taught...we hand children the story manufactured by processed food industries and rubber stamped by the FDA. 12 year olds walk into public schools with 20 oz sugar/caffeine bombs from Starbucks purchased for the by their parents. Worse than nutrition disinformation at the K-12 level is that nutrition is not a subject integrated in any biology or chemistry classes at the college level, even for medical students.

I wanted to hear about "antidepressant induced bipolar disorder" but it was not in this cast. ??? Please make a video about antidepressant induced bipolar disorder, especially about serotonin syndrome, a condition that will spiral out of control because we have GP's prescribing antidepressants to people who then go see a specialist who prescribes another serotonin-increasing pharmaceutical. Doctors do not seem to be aware.

This entire channel and all its participants are shaping the future. I would like to hear about struggles with medication adjustments and the steps taken to remedy or at least mitigate the struggle. The more sources we have with first hand knowledge of real world applications, the better. Remember, not only mental health patients find this channel but health care providers as well. The level of hope, never before seen in this modern age must be cultivated and grown to fruition. This channel must grow, far beyond what it is now. It is imperative. The domino effect of this information will rock the world. From prison food selection to kindergarten lunch plates; the world must know... because the world suffers.

I found this channel yesterday and I’m absolutely mind blown with all of the stories I’m hearing. Until now I have never heard that I could get better or even possibly be well. Only that I will always have bipolar and that it’s progressive. I’m on so much medication and my quality of life is rough. Hearing over and over that I will never recover has made me not even want to participate in my life. I am so grateful for this information!

I have bipolar 1 with my first manic episode occurring at age 42. I had a second 2 years later. I was devastatingly ill for 6 months both times. For years before I struggled with gut problems. My bloodwork always looked ok and scans were clear as I became unable to function in daily stomach pain. Gluten free diet didn’t help. And then out of nowhere in my forties I lose my mind as bad as you could imagine. I didn’t eat for weeks. Finally I was hospitalized and drugged and the episode stopped. My life was in shambles when I came back to reality but my guts were healed. My chronic back pain was healed. It was mind blowing I had been sick for maybe a decade. So I foolishly go back to a bad diet. The medications make you slow and starving. I’ve gained so much weight and feel just unwell in general. I’m on way too much medication but my episodes were both so bad and so long I live in daily fear of it happening again. Hearing this talk… especially the part where she explains the possibility of being well and not being defined by this diagnosis is giving me some hope. I’ve been thinking hard about what to do because being on meds and living in fear is awful. It feels like my life has paused and I’m just waiting to lose my mind again. This has inspired me and I’m going to do keto. It’s all making a lot of sense. Thank you 💙

Thankyou for this interview. I have just started the keto diet. I have BP II and gained 20kg from medications, which comes with carb cravings. Three years ago I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease as a 59 year old. I think I may have suffered hyperinsulinaemia for my whole life as I have always struggled with massive blood glucose drops. I am in Australia (Melbourne), and there appears to be very little understanding of ketogenic therapy for mental illness and neurodegenerative disease. I am not planning to discontinue my meds without medical supervision. I am finding the diet very challenging but each day my determination to continue increases because already the sugar swings and abdo bloating have subsided. I can't believe I have lived with this for so incredibly long. Thanks to you all.

“What causes this illness?”I asked the psychiatrist who diagnosed me with bipolar. “If you and I can work this out, we’ll get the Nobel prize for medicine” she replied. You did it Dr. Palmer! I’m three weeks into the ketogenic diet and pushing through some instability in sleep. I’m hoping it will work for me. Thank you Dr. Palmer I’m so grateful. You don’t need the Nobel prize, turning the tables on this suffering,hopelessness and misery will be your legacy.

Very interesting talk on the spiritual slant that many psychosis take. For myself i was depressed and anhedonic from 18-24yrs and this turned me into a seeker like Ian mentioned. Because if the pain and lack of meaning I was constantly researching and trying to find the meaning of life and what this was all about. This lead me to spirituality and learning about different states of consciousness. Every night for several years I would read for hours and go down massive rabbit holes looking for answers. That curiosity and search lead me to places all around the world to find an answer and try to 'heal' myself, India, Peru etc. It also led me to try different substances hoping some kind of plant medicine could heal me. It led to a psychotic episode when i was 24 that was centered around spiritual delusions, thinking I was being allowed entry into a spiritual realm. I was admitted to hospital for 2 months and I had zero insight, I thought I was being punished for not being good enough to make it into this spiritual dimension. I find it so curious that so many psychosis have this spiritual slant to them. I also truly believe I have had real spiritual experiences at times in my life, and that the power of those real experiences and inability for my concious mind to reconcile them with my everyday life could even have contributed to the emergence of my psychosis, along with a number of other factors. I am 8 years post that psychosis with relative stability but still anhedonia, brain fog and some social and general anxiety. I am day 1 of a ketogenic diet and excited to see what happens. Thank you for sharing your stories, really really helpful and healing to hear people I can relate to speak about things that are so hard to explain and describe.
