The Tortex III is a normal 351 shape at the top and pointed at the bottom with less curve in the sides than the Flow, and without the pronounced shoulders. The Flow is a tiny bit shorter as well. If you like the III, try the Flow 👍
Great episode. I love Seth's guitars, and to hear the tonal differences between the various picks was really interesting, I thought the Mako Jumbo looked an absolute unit but really sleek!
I switched over to Tortex Flow 1.5s about a year ago. I love them . I do go through a lot more picks now though, cause the sharper tip wears down quickly but I'm good w that. I'll take the speed and precision any day!
I used Jazz 3 picks for years but I never really felt 100% with them. Recently got the Flow 1.14 and really been enjoying it. I'm feeling better about my chugs again. Also it's a pick I can use with both electric and acoustic so better for consistency.
Pickhunter is a valuable resource for these, there's not too many kicking about, especially the Juras. I've got a few but they were very thin on the ground.
Such a wonderful video! I actually just recently had my first experience with Richlite by making a fingerboard with it. It wasn't easy sawing the thin slots by hand with a Japanese saw, but everything else, the "normal" sawing, sanding and the look of the material, I just love.
I got the elastomer pick in a jazz 3 XL shape and I've been enjoying them so far. I've been trying to find a pick with the John Petrucci Jazz 3 XL shape (a bit smaller than the regulars), with the smoothness and jazzy tone of the jazztone 205s and I think these picks fill the bill perfectly.
a lot of the new stealth planes being trialed in the US are actually rumored to be made from uhmwpe. they dont call it that, they call it "thermoplastic", but its pretty obvious to me thats what theyre referring to in industry. the f22 and f35 were made from "thermoset" plastics, which includes a lot of the epoxy and carbon fiber techniques that boeing and lockeed martin has gotten pretty good at. the main issue with thermosets in the context of avieation development is the R&D that has to go into perfecting the kilns/curing pressure vessels.... that is unless youre as crazy as boeing and invent hot spooling prepreg like on the 787. didnt work out that well for that one submarine. anyways the benifit of uhmwpe fuselage components is simply the fact that you are not constantly fighting the trade off of making the parts as large as possible to fit in the same kiln. also cool to think about is the fact that someone in the field could basically do good enough pressure/water tight structural repair in the field with a roll of plastic and a soldering iron/hot pointy thing. try doing that with thermosets... right now the typical field repair for thermoset defects is literally ducktape/100mph tape. i am not 100% sure on if industry is going towards the balistic weaves (~180g/cm?) or if theyre just working with multiply or monolithic. anyways, i think the next 50 years of aviation is going to basically revolve around uhmwpe. we should probably start making it in the US instead of shipping it all over from china lol. the gell forming process was perfected over here so.... globalism. good video
I used to use Dunlops until my brother gave me one of these Davas and I haven’t been able to use a single other pick ever. Something about these for metal that’s just it. Will buy these until I can’t anymore!
Hello! I ordered some picks on monday, its now Friday and Im still waiting on them and I havent even received an email saying that they are shipped yet? I have tried to email you about this but no one got back to me. Please help me out!
I shipped them first class signed for and haven't had an email from you about this. I've emailed you with the proof of posting and collection from the Royal Mail, as your order was collected on Tuesday morning and should have arrived on Wednesday.
Awesome vids, been building out my collection and it's super helpful hearing your experiences & insights to help narrow down the options. Been sold on thick picks ever since I got the Flow 420, just got the Purple Plectrums Convert set and immediately looove the 9mm & 12mm picks. I find them to be quite comfortable and perfect for working on picking technique. However, on all of my 2mm+ picks, I can't get over the chirp. It stands out so much that it's kind of distracting, which prevents me from using them in a non-practice context. Any chance you could make some vids to share your experiences related to this? Two ideas come to mind: pick chirp mitigation strategies (technique, amp/FX configuration, etc.), and an overview of thin tip / thick grip options (Plextrum, Pick Ninja, etc.). The latter would be super interesting to see; I've noticed a few of these sorts of picks / accessories in some of your collection spreads but can't quite make out what they are.
