This is such an enriching episode, replete with nuggets on folk music influences. Your passion and conviction shines through. Khoob bhaalo Antara-Sharvari-Monica!👌❤️
Your episode is bereft of totality of Hindi film cinema folk composition. Missing out on folk songs derived from awadhi, braj , himachal and madhya Bharat. Doesn't do justice to the podcast....
Thank you for your valuable inputs. Our podcasts don't go beyond 30 minutes which is a very short time to cover the massive canvas of folk songs and their influences. Moving forward, we would love to do more episodes on folk and will certainly try and talk about the influences we had to skip in this podcast. Your observations will help us develop our scripts and research. Thanks again for listening and sharing your views. ☺🙏
Thank you Sir🙏🏽 We try to cover as much is possible in a limited timeframe. We did talk about four awadhi-Bhojpuri songs though. But let us assure you of incorporating the suggestions made by you, however possible. This is just the beginning 😁 Looking forward to you listening to our next episode on some other topic. And ofcourse an episode on folk in the future!! 🙏🏽
Can I request for write ups along with this narration for the seniors who are hard of hearing but would love to read along with your narration as this will help them understand better as they miss few words in-between..❤
@madhumitakumar4486 thanks a ton for your lovely comment! Yes, these are some reasons why our "old" songs have become timeless in their appeal! So happy you enjoyed the episode!
Beautiful Lnc-Silhouette very well done! What a beautiful talk over the folk songs or in simple language (lok geet) very beautifully executed. Very nice😊❤
Thank you,Sharvari for sharing my missed episode of Chorus, by Monica Ji and Archana Ji. Wooooooow that's really awesome to explain in details What does the Chorus means. Monica Ji, Archana Ji, you both are excellent, wonderful and knowledgeable.Songs were carefully picked up encompassing decades of 30's to 50's, with beautiful songs of different composers. Enjoyed the episode thoroughly.
Marvelous Sharvari & Antara❤ You both have touched the essence of old memories💯 Aajkal ki mechanical jindgi mein ye to hmari khuskismati hai ki golden oldies music pal ke lamhe sunne ko mile👍
Wow! Well done Sharvari and Antara! So interesting to learn about the various folk influences on our filmi music! Thankyou so much for letting me be a small part of this lovely episode! 👏🏼🙏🏽
Beautiful selection of songs, each one a gem, and favorite. Smooth transition between track and dialogue. A wealth of information in the pleasing voices of Monica and Archana, that leaves the listener wanting more. Hope to hear another episode on chorus...the goosebumps refuse to leave me! Bravo ladies 👏👏
@madhurtrivedi8440 comments such as yours will ensure that we continue improving ourselves and presenting these awesome songs while honing our scripts! Thanks a million for the encouragement and for sharing your motivating response! _()_
Simply great chat detailing most popular dance numbers but as I missed out watching 1st episode n not sure whether you have discussed about Piya Tose of Guide wish if this song could be analysed as you did with other songs from Guide, Shree 420, JDMGBH etc it would be great, again Bimal Da's Devdas n Madhumati few dance scores were extremely good wish you plan to include soon, when Vyjayantimala's dance was discussed I was anxiously waiting for Kathputli where many dance sequences were masterpieces! When it comes to dance sequences its not just dancer or actress's talent which could make it success, I feel those days music composers and directors had thorough knowledge of every dance movement which was included in the song which again had to match with the storyline.. Mose chhal happened to my most favorite in Guide after aaj phir jeene ... The reason for liking Mose chhal was the brilliant usage of classical raag jhinjhoti both in dance number followed by Kya se kya with shocking twist in the storyline thus Burman Da not only used the raag for emote Rosy's anger towards Raju with same raag he proceeded to come up with Raju's disappointment! In shree420 in Mud mud ke dekh every step of chorus, Nadira's expressions each shot was so brilliantly handled Shankar Jaikishan extended fantastic contribution ! Wish n expect few more dance scores or sequences could be included from Dil apna preet paraye, Yahudi, talaash, Jab pyar kisise hota hain, Teesri Kasam, Dil hi tho hai, Neel Kamal.. Antara, Monica n Sharvari it was such wonderful session loved every bit of it.. BTB where is Sneh in this, if she could add few glimpses, it would be great👍! Thank you for the tag 💕 !
This is an absolutely stunning feedback Latha! Thank you so very very much! The dances you have mentioned are all iconic - masterpieces all of them. We had mentioned Piya tose in our episode on costumes, as a dance of course, but more from the perspective of costumes, which is not so often talked about, since that was the topic under discussion. Bimal Roy's Devdas and Madhumati, all of the dances in Guide, and those amazing performances by expert dancers like Vyjayanthimala, Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini, Ragini and Padmini and others - each one of them merit detailed discussion. But since we have time constraints, we thought of touching upon some to ignite interest and encourage our listeners to ponder on these aspects and watch the songs on RU-vid again. Thank you again for such enlightening comment - this helps in keeping the discussion going and also gives us new ideas for episodes. Please stay tuned for future episodes, and do let us know your amazing observations! 😍 - Antara
CHORUS in Hindi Film Songs | Sun Mere Bandhu Re - SAAM Podcast Episode #4 Once again a very finely presented episode and the chosen songs were awesome. Just listening to those songs again gave me goosebumps and the expressed details were the cherry on top!! (some may know what I mean!). The flow was great (unlike one of the earlier ones which was not natural discussion and felt like being "read out" - my comments are not complain but just add my 2 cents if it helps. BTW according to rough estimates there could be 67,500 to over 100,000 hindi songs. How did SAAM narrow down on just a few songs for this episode? But I am sure there is a wealth of songs yet to be touched............Once again gread episode and enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for this constructive feedback. I really don't know how many songs there are in totality, but there are ways to narrow it down. Yes! There are many more songs coming your way - so please judey rahiye with Sun Mere Bandhu Re! Thanks a million for liking our selection of songs!
@@irvindsaluja9031 thank you so much for your encouragement! We're glad you liked our selection, even though it is true that we are spoiled for choice. There has been so much excellence in our film music from those years! Would love to have your continued feedback on future episodes too! _()_
Wonderful podcast. Your knowledge of hindi music/cinema is incredible. Both of your voices are so sweet and pleasant to listen to. I have zero knowledge about music, I still enjoy your podcasts throughly. 👏👏👏👏
“ He Babu, he Bandhu, he Bhaiya ji, duniya badi bewafa, sambalake chalna ji “. Beautifully written by lesser known lyricist Hairat Sitapuri, marvelously composed by Robin Bannerjee and rendered by legendary singers Geetaji & Hemantda are really rare gems you have excavated Sir. Good Job. 🌹🌹
Ab kaha jaaye hum Shankar Jaikishan has also used the chorus in songs and backgrounds in a very distinctive style , way and patterns There are a lot of songs giving one example in details. Film : Ujala. Manna Da’s voice although in lead but still the chorus and choir steal the song The prelude starts with harmonium of Bahdhur Nanji abd humming of chorus both females and males with 6 bars of carillon bells as if of church conveying that the sign line is a prayer Sign line starts with male chorus and later Manna Da starts When he starts the chorus is divided in two parts. Female chorus as violins and male chorus as cellos and they are literally singing the harmonies. Female chorus in form of choir to bring that sharpness of violins tone. Interludes has male humming as lead part and female choir type a written score of the corresponding notes and harmonies of the male humming The stanz by Manna Da and behind is the regular harmonies written by Sebastian Sir of both males and females of different scores again both violins and cellos Same way second interlude This wonderful application of human voices which we say chorus is a novel experiment of SJ with Sebastian Sir. And the best part is that behind these heavy choruses there’s the rows of violins playing the counter melody of the human scores. There are different rows of chorus singers all singing different scores.
@joychristie Wow! Love this comment! Just the guidance we need to become even better listeners and presenters! Thank you so much. We are becoming richer in our grasp and knowledge with such comments! 🙏
beautiful podcast ! both of you seem to be experts in noticing the costumes in detail ! how you remember the details and discuss them so naturally is amazing and make it so interesting to listen . well done both of you in bringing this side of the songs in which the costumes were chosen according to the situation . in general we are not able to grasp these aspects of the songs but as you have discussed , the costumes also have an important role in bringing out the beauty of the scenes . thank you very much ! waiting for more of such programmes from you .
Thank you so so much @crazyoldsongs 🥰 We thoroughly enjoyed discussing this too - trying to discover the details of the costumes that add so much appeal to the picturisation of a song. As you said, "costumes also have an important role in bringing out the beauty of the scenes" - but most often we talk about acting, cinematography, dialogues, music etc. We tried to highlight a lesser talked about aspect and it is so gratifying to note that it struck a chord with you! Thank you for the encouraging comment. Would love to do more episodes on this topic. Sharvari is the costumes expert in our team. 😍🥰 - Antara

An insightful perspective on filmi costumes Sharvari and Antara 🥰 Highlighting the elegant sari made for great listening, and Rakhee's were indeed special...the ones she wore in Blackmail had me drooling! Well done ladies 👏👏
Madhur ji, thanks so much! Raakhee is synonymous with elegant saris. I agree with you 200%. She is the first name that came to my mind when Sharvari mentioned saris 😃😃 Thanks again for the lovely comment 😍 - Antara
