A better title would be... How not to treat your clothes with Permethrin. What a waste of Permethrin! Question, you are actually going to put those clothes on your body?
Yes we do. We live in an area of the country with a large population of ticks that carry lyme disease and anaplasmosis. We are outdoors often and regularly see ticks, on us and our dog, so we take tick prevention seriously. Thanks for asking!
For the specifications, check the online listing at www.amazon.com/Portable-Electric-Camping-Filter-System/dp/B099ZBJSYC?th=1 It claims a 0.01 Micron filter. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the advice on the dilution. I'm treating a bunch of clothing and gear for a trip to Michigan at Pictured Rocks. I have to say though, I'm alarmed that you are doing this on grass outside in a yard. Every insect that is underneath your treated clothing is dying. That's a lot of stuff that's dying for no reason. Lay out a tarp, please. Besides that, permethrin is really bad for birds. Birds are going to walk all over that grass and get poisoned. They're going to feed on dead insects in that grass and get poisoned. There is also the possibility that cats in the neighborhood are going to walk on that grass. Perhaps other animals would also be poisoned by permethrin, whichever they may be. Tarp, tarp, tarp! Please pass it on.
Thanks for the thoughts on this! Yes, a tarp could easily be added. Often we are doing this in the driveway. Caution should be used for exposure while the material is wet.
Great to see the comparison. How stable are these two? I generally find the short backed ones to be a bit less stable and I am prone to falling over backwards! Thanks
Thanks for the question! The highback feels very stable, and more comfortable for kicking back a bit. However, the Nemo has the groudcloth which prevents the feet from sinking into the ground, which could contribute to stability. The Nemo has adjustable side straps to allow for the back to move into a slightly reclined position (like an airplane seat) just back a wee bit to shift into a different position, so it is built for that. My goal with the Nemo was to get off the ground, Vince's goal was maximum comfort at the cost of an extra pound to carry. Time will tell after more field use this summer if we tip a lot or fall out of our chairs!
@@twoweeksinahammock Many thanks for the response. I got one of the little two legged chairs and have gone over various times, always saving the wine as I went down. It provides suspense and entertainment! I love the. High back idea, but love lower weight, so tradeoffs as you indicate Enjoy!
We started with one pint of 10% Permethrin, and added 8 pints of water, so the final concentration was actually 1/9 of 10%, which is about 1.1%. That is only about twice the strength of off-the-shelf spray on products, which is typically 0.5%.
Why are you using a concentration more than twice of that which you can buy off the shelf already mixed? I assume those companies know what the proper dilution should be.
This looks like wet snow.. it is hard for snowthrowers, as opposed to gas snow blowers. Also your extension cord looks very small, maybe go for a biggqer gauge. Thanks for the video
You never said how you liked the paddle. Did you feel it moved enough water? Did you find it hard to get that much blade out of the water? How tall are you? What length paddle did you get?
These Ray Special paddles are really nice for deep water lakes. We also have some inexpensive paddles we picked up at a sporting goods store, when we had a hard time sourcing equipment during the surge of interest in rec in 2020 and 2021. We are both around 5'7"-8". Here is the unboxing video, with more details about our equipment: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8ho08ZwB-Co.html
I'm really surprised that the Park Service gives the maintenance crew a chainsaw window. That should be traditional tools only in a designated wilderness.
The management has to apply for a variance to the rule for the use of chainsaws in a designated wilderness area, and it is taken very seriously. The work is done off season, to minimize visitor impact. There are also volunteer crews that do trail clearing using hand tools, sometimes also clearing larger logs.
I understand chainsaw windows but they should only be used in force majeure situations, not upkeep of the trails. It would seem that the NPS could do better at working within the requirements of the Wilderness Act.
Yesterday, I bought this same snow blower and assembled it last night. Today, it cleared my 100' long × 25' wide asphalt driveway and walkways with no problem. I then went and cleared a neighbor's concrete 30' long x 10' wide driveway and walkways too. The drifting snow was about 8-12 inches deep and the snow joe chewed it up and spit it out nicely. This snow blower does not like frozen ice chunks so I had to use a shovel in a few spots. I suggest using the recommended 100' 12 gauge extension cord and spraying the auger and chute with wd-40 so there is no snow sticking and clogging. I am pleasantly surprised and give it a thumbs up!
Thank you. I have not yet found permethrin concentrate that isn't also labeled as containing petroleum distillate(s), except for maybe on Amazon the Martin's 3.29% intended for pets.
It was recently cleared by a special team doing fire prevention measures, taking the vegetation away from many buildings on the island. Thanks for watching!
But otherwise, thanks for sharing. It was educational but I’m looking at it from analytics. It would be probably a little bit easier to get more views starting from the field test and go backwards for longer retention but I could be wrong but I don’t think so cause I’ve looked at my analytics on some of my other stuff I’ve done.
14:35 this is actually where I would start the video to hold the retention or I would do two videos that I’m boxing I guarantee is probably going to not be as high in analytics is the field test so I would start out with field test first and then unboxing I think I would do it in reverse order.
12:43 otherwise, I think you did a pretty good video as far as putting everything together and demonstrating but the only problem I see with these videos and I’ve seen it my analytics on different products I’ve done is it on boxing Kinda kills the video a little bit, especially if it’s long and drawn out overall, I think you did a good job following the rules I guess where they have things set up
10:14 I’d probably take it down to a pond and test it and get that filter part just below the green algae on top of the pond get down to the water that looks a little bit clear on the bottom
I know these companies want you to do these on boxings and show every little piece of their product. I think that kind of kills the video a little bit. My style is a little bit different and I know the companies are asking people to do things a certain way. I’m just curious in your analytics. How long does it take before people drop off or do they watch the whole beginning of it? I mean it’s a little bit educational as far as learning how to hook it up I guess but I don’t think it would be that complicating, I’m more of a testing guy get it right out in the field and get right to the point field testing put it together right out at the field a quick on boxing and then get right to testing it out and I would be testing this in dirty monkey looking water that yeah the clean water I don’t know about doing that people want to see they getting down and dirty drink out of a water puddle drink out of a dirty river or pond
Thanks for asking! The company that sent the filter did not ask for anything other than a review, no further instructions. It was our choice to do the unboxing, since that is what we like to see in a product review. You will notice that several of our other review videos contain them. This is the first time we have been sent a product. All other products we have reviewed have been items we have purchased. As for the water we tested, true to how we would actually use it, we don't intentionally seek out visibly muddy water to drink. Hike your own hike. Thanks for watching and commenting!
If you wanted the mixture at 1 percent permethrin. Wouldn't you just at 1.28 oz of the permethrin to the gallon of water. You have an incredible strong solution there.
Wow !!! Aunt Gin ,I want to hope a plane and come hug you soooooo bad !! My husband said we cry exactly alike ❤ It’s Carrie Joy ,(Carrie’s)granddaughter from Jillene . I cried and laughed and enjoyed hearing more stories 🙏🏼🤍 .
I love you, Aunt Gin. Your sister Carrie ( my grandmother) said she used to set the table for the Coast Guard guys. She said she placed flowers at the place of someone she had a crush on. She also said that sometimes she'd sneak out after lunch and play with her friends. And she told me she didn't help with the dishes. And she said that was bad and I told her that's what a 12 year old would do sometimes. I am so happy to hear these stories Aunt Gin. I am going to camp on the island this summer, hopefully. Last year we camped close to where your school was. I imagined your little feet walking to and from school. Thank you for sharing this with people.
Thanks for watching! We don't typically directly charge our phones with the solar charger. As a practical matter, we are out on the trails using our devices for navigation and photos, and leave our battery hooked up to the charger. Interesting idea though!
@@twoweeksinahammock I tried it with my 18W solar charger and it charged my 5000mAh phone in approx 3 hours. Today i bought the BigBlue 28W so we will see what it can does
Congrats on your new ray kettlewell designed paddles. These canadian style paddles are an absolutely joy to paddle with and will open the doors to you solo paddle. These are the best paddles for wilderness lake paddling made.
@@inaband428 One of the things we liked about these paddles while researching was the history and the unique design. Thank you for adding to that story!
Thanks for the video!! I am planning almost the same trip. Curious, did you leave your car at the outfitter and have them run you upriver to start and have them pick you up on day 5?
We left our car at the park at the start of our trip. Our friend had the boat trailer, so we parked that and other cars at the take out-point, so we could put our boats on it to drive back to the put-in spot for our car.
We did not plan to intertact with the outfitter at all on this trip, we ended up spending the night at their campground out of necessity. They do shuttle people around the area, and later in the trip they shuttled our friends who got separated from us. If you are only taking one car, you could stage it at your take-out point and have them drive you to your put-in.
Lots of respect! Those pull overs are a work out after 100 or so. Planning a Fox River trip for next month hopefully. Should be interesting to see how the bugs are (or are not hopefully!). We did the Paint River last year. A lot more white water in the way than trees. Got defeated by the White Fish river running south out of Trout lake a few years back, a little south from where you guys were. Between flood stage water levels on a rock bottom river (12 hour storm the first night) and downed trees around every bend, it became deadly. Though I know it would have opened up if we could have just gotten a little further, the way the Fox did for you guys. It is incredible how much you learn every time you go out adventuring though. Especially the first handful of times. The learning curve can be very steep at first haha. But you learn quick, and then you start getting good at it. It's such a satisfying feeling. Never get too confident though, and wear your PFD! Thank you again for sharing!
Thanks for your great comments! Those sound like some really challenging paddles you have done. You are right that it is all about learning as you go, which makes it rewarding. We are big on the PFDs, for sure. I always have mine on. It has pockets on the front, so that is where I stash my snacks and keys. Enhoy your Fox River trip, that is an early season start!
Such a sweet, lovely soul. I just wanted to take her in my arms and console her when she was remembering the hard times of her life. What a lovely lady with sad and wonderful memories. God Bless her.💕
Lovely woman. Priceless smiles, emotion and facial expressions. Wonderful personal history of her day to day memories - the stuff of life. Virginia conveys very happy as well as sad memories and touching stories of her childhood on North Manitou Island. The winter ice crossing survival story is amazing.
Surface in this video while cleaning the snow is more clean, I am using same but my driveway surface is not as clean as in this video, what's the problem? Please let me know, thanks
