Thanks for stopping by my laid-back art-centric channel. Here you will find watercolor process videos, art supply hauls, swatching, and review videos. I am a mixed media artist and surface pattern designer with varied styles tending towards symmetry and balance in my pattern-making and more abstract expressionism in my paintings. I work mostly with watercolors but I am a lover of fountain pens and inks too.
✿ I love trying out new art materials (paints, inks, pens etc.) so please contact me if you have something you would like me to try and share with my creative community or set up an ink swap - I am located in California, USA.
She / Her. My name is pronounced JAN-uh :) 🌿 My Personality Type: Mediator INFP-T (www.16personalities.com/infp-personality)
I have a lot of water brushes, from different brands. Pentel ones have the nicest bristles, they keep a nice point, even after a few years. The Caran d Ache ones are nice too, and I like the design, but Pentel are the best!
I am right there with you with the non-dyslexia, but still switching letters around and also with my handwriting changing all the time. my handwriting and penmanship is atrocious and never in school was nice penmanship a focus and even as an adult it wasn’t. Now I am 42 and I am trying to figure out how to write in a way that’s not chicken scratch. I feel like every time I hold a pen it’s a different form, I don’t know if I should write with my fingers my whole arm or something in between 😂 and I can absolutely tell that over the last 15 years or so of auto correct on phones and computers that my spelling has gone down the toilet 🤦♀️
I also have issues tying stuff right on my phone, it always auto-corrects to something completely wacko so I have to get in the habit of double checking before hitting send! 😹
My friend. Yesterday I spent half the evening watching ink reviews. I would buy them all. I like them so much. I am delighted! You have a wonderful channel! You were the first to subscribe to me. Now I am your subscriber too 🙃
I do have a video that goes over some water pens that I tried but I would say that the ones I would recommend and use the most are the Pentel Aqwash ones, they are great.
haaaa, I know right, sorry for accidentally tagging you, I was seeing if the other BC had a YT channel so I was searching for their tag but I accidentally saved 😂. I did enjoy watching the lego building though 😂
I love that SF pen show sticker you made. That is gorgeous! I love those new pens too. What lovely inks you found. The shimmer on that Alexander is spectacular. Sounds like you had a good time.
i absolutely love the bonecrusher velma model so much. I also am obsessed with the quartz strata material. such a lovely material. Glad you got such a lovely pen.
I was so excited when James wrote back saying he could make one for me! I am really in love with this material and so lucky to have been there at the right time :) The actual fit of the pen is also wonderful, I may have to start saving up for another, there are so many beautiful resins coming out lately!
Ahhh I’m so keen to go next year! I’m also an introvert & find approaching tables to be so awkward. Or rather walking away after browsing without buying anything is the really awkward part. 🫣 But it all sounds so fun. 😅
I totally get you on this! That is pretty much why I did not finish the stamp rally scavenger hunt for the show ink, I just felt awkward and I did not want to waste the vendors time if I was just getting a stamp 😂. 💜
A little while ago I got the 21 pan mono-pigmented set of Rosa Gallery. (I replaced the white with mars brown) Then I’ve picked & chose some other colours, to personalize a pallete for myself. The stand out for Rosa for me, at the moment, is Naples Yellow light. That colour looks like the near golden hour colour of sunlight on white or off white buildings, objects, or boats, ships. I think Old Holland is the only other paint company that has that shade. Like a pale butter colour.
It is a Leather Pen Case with Removable Drawer - I got mine off AliExpress, but you can also get them (definitely better quality) from Galen Leather and other stores on Etsy :)
Hmm, maybe check that you have Thermal Labels not just sticky labels, and also check that they are installed the right way up. Other than that I would contact NIIMBOT as it may be an issue with the machine.
I've been thinking about picking this up - thanks so much for the review! It definitely helped give me a better idea of what all can comfortably fit in it for when I head out into the world and still want to art. 😉😍
Oooo, right, that is a brass shim or flossing sheet. You can get them from a bunch of pen stores, I got mine from Goulet ( www.gouletpens.com/products/goulet-brass-sheets ) but FPR has them too ( fprevolutionusa.com/products/brass-flossing-sheets ) - they are handy for widening the tines a little or flossing out shimmer :)
Silly question, but do you make temporary tattoos out of your art? The dashed line work and the shade of brown you chose reminds me of when I would connect the freckles on my arms to make art.
I just got one (Hoping it would be a more budget friendly alternative to the Sendak)! It’s still new so maybe it needs to break in a little more to get everything in. I am excited to take it out and really give it a go. Initial thoughts are I agree that the back pockets are of minimal use if using the elastic straps in front of that section. I wish it was just a smidge taller to fit pencils more comfortably. I also was disappointed that my small sketchbook doesn’t fit in the pockets. But I’m not sure if it would in the Sendak either. Overall, happy that it was more budget achievable for me and I do love the brown and marigold inside color!
I totally agree with you on wanting it to be a little taller so that it would fit paint brushes and pencils - the elastic slots do fit some of my pencils, the back pockets are a little less deep because of the stitching. I have seen a lot of artists using the back pockets on the Sendak to put their sketchbooks, seems like it interferes less with the stuff inside as they are not stacking on top of each other. I also feel like the Lochby would weigh a lot less with the lightweight fabric inside rather than three layers of the waxed canvas. I am also happy for now, it is working out just fine :)
Hi Jannah! Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review of the Tool Roll! 😍 We're happy to hear how you've been using it in your art practice plus all of the feedback. We're so grateful to see it in action and appreciate all of your thoughtful insights. Happy creating! 🥰
Interesting. I might try one of these. My Lamy Safari does not work well at all. Inconsistent flow. Very disappointing Perhaps this one will be better.
@@jannahlyon Thanks. My Safari is brand new with freshly loaded Carbon ink by Platinum. But it just doesn’t work well. Flows, then doesn’t. Then flows again. Very intermittent. I gave up on it. This one looks very interesting- and more promising for sure.
@@hammill444 I have the best luck with the Platinum Preppy’s for pigment inks, they stay wet for months and flow great! But you cannot get them in a fude if that is what you are after.
you’ve convinced me again to buy an ink! i had marked this one off the list but your beautiful swatch changed my mind. your comparisons at the end are so helpful. thanks for providing such comprehensive swatches. 😊
Great review. This was my first TWSBI pen, and honestly, I've gone in deep. The build quality is insane. The price is very good value. (And that Prussian Blue Diamine Ink - sensational pairing!) Thank you.
I just looked it up as I have not tried that ink, but it does kinda look like it may be similar - however the shimmer in the Galeforce is bright green (with a teensy hint of pink) so it does feel like it would lean more green than grey because of the silver shimmer in the Faceless Lady.
I did get a bottle and I love it. The Faceless lady is one of my favorites inks but it leans ever so slightly towards a teal and Galeforce is the green. I like how they are different.
