Watching this now and I am transported back to the hysteria over his The Future Bites album. I loved it because his compositions are what matters to me. It may have been mostly synth but his songwriting came through, and that is what I love about Steve Wilson. He writes great songs, no matter what the instrumentation is.
They go from talking about how wonderful immersive audio is (their very digital branch of business) to stating that a bunch of zeros and ones don't make it for them. I will leave the Israel thing out because everyone should have the right to change their mind about anything.
Thanks for this interview. Portishead was my biggest crush when I was 17. Synthesis is a lighthouse for me since 2018. Thanks again. From Normandie, France.
I’m a musican and graphic designer (now creative director, as I’m old!) but music and visuals are very closely paired - depending on how your mind is wired! I loved John’s music very early on and only learned of his graphic design work around 2001 while I was a musician. He’s a fantastic designer and his visual work is so eerily aligned with his musical instinct. He designed the sleeve for the first edition of Rushdie’s Satanic Verses. He scored computer games in the early 90s under the name/collab Nation 12, he’s worked on some amazing things and he’s being very humble here, probably because of your combative patter. Ying and yang personalities here but I still appreciate this video. You could have got way more out of John but this conversation is still appreciated- cheers for sharing.
Fabulous interview Martyn. Simon ( as you well know) was the real talent/brains behind the success of Virgin Records. We had, not only a great working relationship, throughout the 80s, but also became great friends. He was a huge influence on Simple Minds and myself and I have no doubt our success owes a huge amount to him in particular, but also the team he built around him in Vernon Yard. We haven't been in touch for years sadly so it was great to see this Martyn. Hey man...hope you're well, it's been a while. Bruce ❤
As a hardcore obsessive lover of The Human League THIS is a DREAM of the early Human League in YOU interviewing the Dare/Love & Dancing/Hysteria"Human League" - OM-YES! ... I love that Jo mentions "You Remind Me Of Gold" - Should have been the A Side instead of Mirror Man. I love that Philip did it all on his own x
What a nice surprise this is! ***** I am loving this interview soooo much! ... Looking forward to flying from Australia to see Culture Club with Heaven 17 in December in Liverpool and Manchester! .. What a pleasure to see you Martyn interviewing my all time loved musician George x
I’d love to have met Rusty when the band I was in called Neon Ash was around I’d say he would have gave us a push in the right direction,we were an Irish electronic band in the early 90s and in Ireland you might as well have been from Mars super interesting interview love it 👍
I really respect how Neil Arthur has become more and more prolific with his art in the last 10-15 years than when he was a kid. Blancmange's Unfurnished Rooms album is superb. Inspirational for us older artists!
Windpower was my introduction to Thomas c. 1982 and it blew me away also (sorry about the unintentional pun)! I'm not surprised that Martyn likes it so much as it shares a futuristic kinship with the early Human League sound, when they were sonically at their most experimental and exciting for me.
The most polite Belgian leaving the screen because of bad wind , just after Martyn said about blowing smoke up his ass.I love Telex and a great interview with Dan and Michel.
Memories. Carlsbro Sounds had a System 100 back in the day that I lusted after. Wonder if that's where Martyn got his from. My first synth was an EDP Wasp from Musical Sounds 🤔 Fantastic interview 🖖
Adi please, please do a Clock DVA gig at Chinnery's as it's a great venue and only around the corner from you. (and me) Adi is a legend and always will be an under rated.Great to see him well and a great interview.
I love this channel and Martyn ,but this in my humble opinion is totally incongruous .D-ream were a joke and this has no relevance to electronic music .Interview electro /industrial legends Chris Carter and / or Cosey Fanni Tutti instead of this irrellevant mush.
