i believe with the right support a teenager can be a good mother i don't know if manny had that support and i do think that abortion is wrong but i wonder if theres some guilt for people that decsion what could of been even if you have children afterwards
Manny definitely didn't have that support. I trust her when she worried about being sent away if she decided to give birth, and it would have been really hard for her to lean on Emma and her family or even Craig and Joey. It was a hard decision, and ultimately it was right for her. Some people may feel guilt, but others don't. Even if they feel guilty, they still made the right choice for them.
@@NotAVampyre and also craig excited now but i really doubt that would of lasted you can correct me if im wrong but it does seem like most people who get a teenager pregent don't stick aroud or are involved lucas vaughn case and point in a way
The thing about Jordan Peterson is he's a trained psychologist, and an excellent speaker, and has spent decades helping very high achieving women manifest their dreams. So a lot of the advice he gives can absolutely resonate with people that are struggling in immediately tangible ways. It's just that after he says something that helps them get out of their rut they feel obligated to trust all his political takes as well. The internet daddy effect. In my opinion then, the more left leaning mental health professionals get into the space the the less relevant he'll become. Just a random thought. Have you watched the show Cobra Kai? I think you'd really like it. When I'm not as strapped for cash imma patreon for your takes on the three dojo philosophies.
@@NotAVampyre Yes. It's the Karate Kid movies 30+ years later. As much about the now adult movie characters burying the hatchet as is it is about the kids they're now teaching. So it's basically Degrassi:TNG with awesome roundhouse kicks.
The entire field of psychology is dominated by left-wing academics. You legitimately do not need more left-wing figures moving into the space in order to balance things out or draw people away from a figure you dislike. The fact that conservative voices have any representation at all within that space draws a lot of ire from those who would prefer them silenced outright, but the fact remains that conservatives seeking mental health often find it impossible to find a shrink or clinician who doesn't have deeply biased attutudes towards people like them. The psychologists, for their part, are all to eager to pat themselves on the back and insist that it shouldn't matter-they, after all, can see past bias, and would never fail to be understanding, since they already know how conservatives think anyway.
It's sort of messed up that she'd drop that bugbear that some of her former cast mates also into Trump. Now my brain can't help but suspect all of them.
I don't think Jordan revealed it. From what I understand, it's discoverable by who the actors follow. Owen's actor is pretty openly right leaning in a way Owen also would be.
BS All Maga want is for trans people to live however they want without trying to force everyone else to live and believe what they do. Live and let live.
That's not a reason to support someone who doesn't want to allow trans people to exist and who regularly makes false claims about their danger to "society".
@@NotAVampyre not a reason it's a fact though. And people don't always vote on party line or what's good for x people. just because they played a trans character doesn't mean most policies they like negate one thing. Do we know why she's supporting him. Bc I bet it's not because of trans issues. I know any candidate will not check all my boxes. If you have a candidate that does check every single box that person needs to reevaluate themselves.
The thing is that even if you don't support Trump's anti LGBT+ agenda and rhetoric but still vote for him, that's still endorsing his ability and promise to harm trans people. You're saying it's okay for him to take away human rights as long as he does the one thing you like. It doesn't matter if you don't like his promises to hurt LGBT+ people. If you still vote for and support him, you are saying it's permissible for him to do all the things he promises, and that's the part that shocks and disappoints me. Vague hope for how he'll "fix the economy" are not a fair trade off for dismantling human rights, and I will always be appalled by those who think otherwise.
I like Yael. Nothing wrong with the wig, it was fun. I wish their storyline could have continued, and explored their journey as they embraced their nonbinary gender identity.
i spend a lot of time on the subreddit and there's very little opinion about yael in general; most of that fanbase only watched next class once or not at at all and didn't like it, so yael rarely ever gets mentioned. i think the misgendering is people just forgetting anything about the character. i've never seen any negative sentiment towards them though, or if it is it's just couched in "next class bad".
I grew up listening to the brodway soundtrack. In my teens I explored the actual story and fell even more in love. When the movie came out after graduation. I was cautiously optimistic. I went with my friend who went into the movie blind. I walked out insanely disappointed for reasons mentioned in this video and more. My friend asked how the play differed and when I mentioned rapunzels death her immediate reaction was, "She SHOULD have died. It felt like she needed too." It wouldnt have been hard just copy and paste but have fun with the backgrounds in a way that brodway can't. (For example Agony and On the Steps of the Palace) but no they had to fail.
Overall, I enjoyed Yael as a character. I think they had some nice spunky and heartfelt moments and I loved the friendship between them and Lola. If I did have one gripe with the character, it’s that I wish they’d been a bit more understanding of Hunter’s point of view once they established themselves as gender neutral. I completely get them being hurt and not viewing their coming out as a big deal because they were still the same person on the inside. I also don’t like how Hunter blamed Yael for ruining things between them and saying Yael “wasn’t normal.” That wasn’t cool. But as someone who’s been in a very similar situation, it’s very hard to hear people say “you should just love the person, not the gender.” While that’s a lovely sentiment, it’s rarely that simple and I don’t think someone should be chastised for whomever they want to date, whether they’re gay, straight, bi, etc. Granted, that may be more of a script issue than a character issue. Overall, Yael’s a fine character in my book.
I wish we got more of a character arc than just “I don’t like jumping on trampoline because boobs”>>“look I wear a binder now and took my wig off” 😭 they could’ve given one of Maya’s 900 storylines to them or have us learn about their interests or home life or something.
I was cool with Yael after they stopped wearing that horrible wig and came out of the closet. And as someone who started out watching Degrassi Jr. High in the mid-1980's, I think Next Class is a humongous drop in quality, from a writing standpoint. Maya, Miles, and Tristan were insufferable. Calling a Black character Tiny Bell was idiotic, and making him caught up with gang violence was racist as hell. Although it was funny when Tristan said, "Sayonara, Miles Hollingsworth".😂
you know with next class i just didn't that we went from 40 episodes to only 10 it didn't feel like enough time to cover all these characters my sister sometimes says she thinks for some series 22-23 episodes is too much and sometimes uncessary and for some shows shes right but for next class i think we needed more
I loved Yael a lot, was one of my favs pre-bomb threat. Having them go through a beautiful plot about trust and self acceptance only to pull that big racist stunt to Saad immediately after kinda makes it seem like they learnt nothing. Yael getting so much support only to do that rubbed me the wrong way. That being said, I haven't watched NC in years, perhaps maybe i'll feel differently next watch! The non-binary plot was well done overall though!
I think they're a decent character and parts of their non-binary story line was done well, but they were underutilized, so it was hard for me to truly get invested. Also the wig.
The whole movie is basically proof that people don't REALLY care about plot and characters, as long as the songs and or style is catchy enough. The moment you mention Grease, one remembers the songs, the small bits of dancing, the Black clothes, the Hair, that it has John Travolta in it and how most of the Men are basically "The Fonz" from Happy Days... ...That's about it.
Wendy on the book has way more character, she wasn't really on the movie. It was like a whole different character. Her true power is her words, and her grounded mentality. They even robbed her on the movie, one of her biggest moments of bravery in the rock. She's way more grounded as she is the only one that confronts Peter, since she is way more mature, something that is not always shown in media adaptations.
Peter Pan disney adaptation, takes a lot from the original book. They give Wendy's brother bad behavior to Peter, cuz Peter would never say " thats a girl's thing!" Or stuff like that. He would never get blushed with Tiger Lily, cuz he doesn't get that kind of kove because of his whole "stopped growing up at 7 day's old." He even mentions on the book he doesn't get why Tiger Lily wants to be something else and not her mom, cuz he doesn't understand. It's one of the main points of Peter, he is a child. The movie as a whole isn't really a good adaptation of the books to be fair, yes most of us have some nostalgia for it, but we have to be fair as well, it doesn't captured the true magic of the book!
TBH if you're looking for a good Peter Pan movie, I HIGHLY recommend the 2003 film, the effects are rlly dated ya, but it just has so much charm and sincerity in it that makes ur heart happy, also the deleted ending makes me tear up, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. ;;
He had the saddest story. Not only his parents, he nearly gotten r*pe then kill a kid. After he been drinking and gotten into an accident, killing one person and injuring another. Like his character couldn’t catch up break, it’s like he always got bad things happen to him.
@@NotAVampyre pretty much everything that happens in the book happens in that version. They even include the scene where Hook wounds Peter and he uses a kite to send Wendy back to shore. Peter then waits for his final moments only for Tiger Lily to rescue him and we see the pirates sneak up on Peter’s friends when they capture them.
@forrestdupre87 I rather disagree. While that scene technically happens, the 2014 production changes alot more than it keeps from the book like the characteristics of Hook, Peter, and Wendy, how many lost boys there are, and adding Hook's intention to destroy Neverland itself. The Cathy Rigby production is a version of the same musical and more aligned with the book than the 2014 show, but even then I'd still argue the 1924 film is the most book accurate as much more is in common with it than other works.
We're not talking statistical values. When people say being straight is "normal", they say it with a value judgement, and to ignore that part is to not engage with reality. They're saying that if you are anything but a "normal", straight person, you are inherently deviant, and you are rejecting "normal" society by existing.
I personally dont think its a hatred for women as even in tinkerbells solo movies she has jealously as a character trait and saying making her jealous is hate would imply that women cant be jealous
It's not just Tinkerbell though. Like I said, all the girl characters are immensely jealous and in a way that wasn't present in the book. Women can be jealous, but it's not such a key trait to all women like this movie depicts. don't forget Captain Hook's directly talking about how he would use Tinkerbell for her "female jealousy" and how he spoke of it like an inherent trait of women.
i get the idea is “peter pan is so attractive everyone wants him” even though he’s like 150 years old but looks like he’s 15 but goddamn they’re violent
@@NotAVampyre i mean the 150 years old but looks young when you’re a fully grown person yeah i get but when it’s a 150 year old man dragging a bunch of kids to a place where their parents can’t find them makes me think something else of mr pan
I think that's part of the fiction you're negating though. The Disney film doesn't do a good job of it, but Peter is still a child in more than just looks. Mentality, maturity, even perspective. He's not like an Edward Cullen who would have the mindset and wisdom of a 120 something year old because Peter never mentally or physically grew up. He's truly just a little boy who can become a man lest he stop being able to go on childhood adventures. That's why he can't even have a romantic relationship with Wendy even though she's special to him. He's too immature to conceive of romance and anything that might come with it. To him, the only special women in his life must be mothers if not just friends because that the only thing that makes sense to his restricted worldview. The 1953 film makes him seem like a teen, but really he's 12 at most. And that's what makes him the boy who never grows up. He's not a man child, but a little kid who rejects bed time lest he becomes a day older when he wakes.
Yup. No argument. When I watched it with my ex last year we were expecting the racism, but the sheer amount of misogyny, we had somehow forgot about hit a whole lot harder. When people talk about implicit biases, shit like this is where they come from.
I deleted the channel my last comment was posted with. I just want to add to it that I just think that because the in Universe mechanics make it unable to address such subjects IRL and it's redemption of characters many see as fascists, I just find it a bit concerning since fascism is on the rise and if they take power, the target audience of SU will be the most in danger. PS. You also said on one of the comments on your Lily Orchard response that layered villains are always better but I mean, all Dragon Ball fans love Frieza and Cell, who are pure evil.
One of fascism's core features is dehumanizing people and creating an "out group" to hate. SU is the antithesis to that. It's a show where power comes from compassion and where the heroes win by fighting only when necessary and believing in the ability for people to change. Punching the villain to death with no chance of reformation isn't anti fascist.
@@NotAVampyre well, the heroes in shows I'm talking about always try to reform the villains first, Optimus tried to reach out to Megatron constantly, Goku spared Frieza in their fight on Namek twice in a row, Kion tried to reason with Zira and was willing to instantly accept Janja after he defected from Scar's Army. It's just, most of those villains didn't relent.
@@NotAVampyre the only exception I can think of is the title character of Elena of Avalor and even then, it's only a partial exception. The only villain Elena never tries to reason with and outright kills herself is Suriki, because the latter murdered Elena's parents.
9:09 Not to mention, Luke has always been a scumbag and a bully. From Bullying others like Cam, Tristan and Jake, to literally assaulting Zoe while she was drunk. And yet he claims to be Christian, but his actions shows otherwise. that is what i say that’s lukewarm behavior. (Pun intended)
And not to get super political but it will only continue to get worse with Donald Trump becoming president again. Get out and vote my RU-vid cousins! 🌈
