Wow, this is actually really cool. Not just for the seamless transition, but also to know why Luke wanted to join the Rebels and for introducing Biggs. Thanks for making this, friend! Also, it cannot just be me who now ships Luke and Biggs, right? I know it's weird, it's just... I- nevermind. Probably Pride month. Blasted gays. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
I wrote about this possiblity to make Rogue one a complete movie in a comment to rogue one movie. It was a shame the direction didn't apply this scenes to such movie.
Not to nitpick, but the only issue with the ending of Rogue One for me was that Tantive IV turned out not the be the ship to which the transmission was beamed. It was beamed to General Raddus's flagship then handed off to the crew of Tantive IV. Otherwise, I never saw an issue with the ending, and adding the deleted scene of Biggs with Luke and then Luke actually witnessing the chase in orbit does add a lot. Thanks for this!
I definitely remember this scene when I saw it the first month it opened in '77. I saw a 70mm projection at the Plitt Century Plaza theater in LA, one of the first wired for Dolby. I was 9 years old and it was STUNNING. I don't remember this whole clip being in it - I distinctly remember the dialog between Biggs and Luke when he tells him he's joining the rebellion. And I remember the shots starting at 4:07 in this clip, when he sees the ships in orbit. And as is explained clearly, it's out of sequence. Thank you for posting and confirming my memory of the event, it's the first time I've seen this scene since I was 9 years old.
here is a "What if", from this deleted seen, what if Luke had joined the Empire. The sand people could have attacked his uncle's farm and storm troopers could have save his family and him. He could have been found by Vadar trained in secret as Vadar envisioned and Lea would have been needed to be found by Obi-won and trained, if possible, then a fight between siblings, because of Obi-Wan and Yoda's cowardice to end everything to begin with by leaving it to the children from the very beginning.
I get why they cut this scene since it probably would’ve messed with the movie’s pacing, but it adds so much more depth to Luke and Biggs’ friendship and his motivation to want to join the Rebellion
Why the heck did they cut this?? That was awesome having some more back-and-forth between Luke and Biggs, and also having him see the ships up above the atmosphere - so dang cool.
I like BIGGS....I wish he didnt need to die or get killed....The only person pilot who lived and survived the whole Star Wars series was WEDGE....I also liked Wedge....I think he was the best Xwing pilot.....Just like Cameron Poe....😢😢😢❤
Of course now you've re-introduced the plot hole of how Biggs managed to go from shipping out on an Imperial frigate to a trusted fighter pilot at the Rebel's secret base in two days, which is part of the reason these scenes were cut in the first place.
I agree this scene should be put back in. If not only for the Biggs and Luke's friendship. But this undermines the impact of the ending. Feels less climatic for the battle to come.
That was a cool deleted scene. You don't see that often. The pov from the ground. The ships are so tiny and you are intrigued to know what they are etc. Dam
The talk of nationalizing commerce and in context here of farming (albeit for water in this case) is another example of how much has changed. Story like this exists because it is based upon the history that should teach us. Someone wouldn't use that unless it was to clearly build up the backdrop and the motivations of characters in a relatable way. Now it is more common to delude oneself simply out of spite. Sure, I'll support tyranny, because <insert icon you don't like here> bad... very bad.
The empire is based of the American empire which is the imperial force. The rebels were the Viet Cong who were communist. George Lucas has stated this several times in interviews but I guess that’s what capitalist love to do claim something that clearly doesn’t represent their ideology and also completely misunderstanding what capitalism and communism even is
It would be really cool if Disney+ had like 3 different versions of the movie. One version would be the original 1977 theatre version without any edits except upgraded quality. One version would be the current version of the movie they have now. The third version would include all of the deleted scenes as part of the movie.
I know this is an old post but I agree with most here. They should have left this scene in the movie. Gives Luke a better backstory. Loved the ships coming out of hyperspace at the end.
I think it was rocket jump that posted a video about new hopes intro editing. The full story why those scenes were taken out is because Lucas wanted to cut between the space scenes and the ground scenes. For example, the star destroyer hits the main reactor, cut to scene where Luke says “there was a lot of fire before.” Overall, scenes are cool but just don’t really fit. Plus not everything has to spelled out for the audience.
I still dislike the ending of Rogue One. A New Hope heavily implies a cleaner getaway for the stolen plans. Why would they pretend to be a diplomatic mission if they were pursued from the moment they left the Death Star until they were finally caught? There's no sane reason to attempt such a deception in the Rogue One scenario, so the movies fit together poorly. It should have been a clean getaway, but the Empire starts putting together a few clues to track them. Then, after a few weeks, they finally locate them. Then, it makes sense to try and lie to the Empire when they get boarded.
So stupid , they were just talking openly about the rebellion on the roof top looking into the sky .....Then all of a sudden lets get quite about it ! 1:19 and then 1:50
