Have you noticed that standard clip most times "breaks" the kicks With audible distortion on hard clip? Maybe it's just me and my samples haha , great content as always! 👊
Didn’t use that too much. Plugin wise my favorite transient shaper is neutron 4 transient shaper. For mastering though the Elysia can be super effective on certain mixes, it can bring out that punch.
Well I have MK 3 Vitalizer (it's great "mojo" source, especially Bass, thight, soft, expander of course...), and soon coming is Eysia Xfitler and SSL BUS +. And the rest is history , haha. I hope I would not need another 22 units. :)) I just think "less is more". You don't need 101 units, if you're working on "one genre" of music; but if you think you need so many units, than great. I would go nutts, experimenting all 1000000 options and combinations 😆😆
Great! I’m sure you’ll love the Xfilter and Bus+ too, they are such great units. I fully agree, man, you don’t necessarily need all the options. That said, they’re highly helpful in achieving a certain sound, and of course, they help in developing your own workflow while mastering.
Awesome Studio Brother! Seeing you and that absolute beast of a studio u own , would be interesting to get a video about , how you became that what u are today. Maybe some advise for people that are trying to reach that point etc.. Anyways great content as always ! Cant wait for the faderpro masterclass!
Hello, this is a very good quality explanatory video. I saw this elysia and its mastering version a few days ago and that convinced me to buy it, especially since I saw your video afterwards, so I'm thinking of ordering it very soon for my master hardware chain. My question is would you advise me to put it before or after a vari mu type compressor?
Great to hear! It's an excellent unit, you will be happy with it. Both would work, yet I personally feel that the Nvelope delivers fantastic results after compression.
@@thismixissick Thank you for your advice, for the moment my analog chain is made up in this order: Bax eq > SSL fusion > SSL bus+ > Tegeler vari tube > SPL vitalizer mk3-t to then finish in the box to complete the digital master with the plugins . In the SSL fusion insert I have a pair of Lang peq 2s and a pair of Pultec EQM-1S3s. So far I have done quite a few tests of different chains and this is the one that suits me best and so my question is would you advise me to put the elysia nvelope ME before or after the vitalizer SPL? Thanks again for your feedback
Use FabFilter Saturn 2 with these settings ⬇️ ✅ Linear Phase ✅ High Quality ✅ Subtle Transformer Mode ✅ Drive at 100% ✅ Adjust Dry/Wet to taste ✅ +0.5dB Mid Boost ✅ +1dB Treble Boost ✅ +1.5dB Presence Boost ➡️ Try it in M/S mode (75% mid and 25% side) for enhanced mid focus.
Obviously u can't achieve a 0 true peak with analogue limiter, so what u put after ur gear when u come back into the daw? After my bettermaker2.0 i always put a proL2 like if it was a clipper(super low attack and super fast release) without increasing gain.
No, it indeed doesn’t do true peak limiting to 0. If you want that, a simple limiter after coming back in the DAW can be a great way to go, for example, the Ozone Maximizer. However, it’s all project-dependent, so it can differ per session.
@@thismixissick ive seen many mastering of EDM track at +1.8 true peak... And I'm taking about Luca pretolesi's mastering... Then I don't know if it so necessary works on true peak if u master on analogue gear... After my BM 2.0 true peak when I push significantly it always+1.2 /1.5... rms 3 Lufs 4
The Carnaby HE2 sounds amazing!!! I've been looking some videos at internet and yours is the best one. I hope to get this unit in a few months for my studio with an Elysia Xpressor Neo. By the way, could you please help me with something. I'm looking for a new pair of speakers (Dynaudio LYD48 or Barefoot Printfoot03) for mixing and mastering porpouse but I can't find to much information about it. Have you worked with some of this speakers? At the moment I have JBL LSR305 MKI with PreSonus Iris Sub8.
Thanks for the kind word. Really happy to hear it helped. The HE2 is incredible. The Neo too, you’ll love it. I didn’t work on Barefoot but have experience listening to Dynaudio’s, which sound fantastic. Such a clear and balanced sound. Best is always to demo them somewhere yourself before purchasing, if possible.
Great Review, like always 😀 By the way, did you sell your Black Box? It's not in the Rack anymore 🙃 I'm asking me if the Cranborne can replace the Black Box in a setup? Maybe the Cranborne has enough harmonics going on for EDM😉
Thank you. No, they are very different units. Sound completely different. I’ve just switched to the Flock system last weekend, and now got the Black Box HG2 available again in my mastering setup. A full mastering setup tour is coming up soon, that’ll explain everything.
@@thismixissick thanks for your answer 🙂 so I'm looking forward to your mastering setup tour. This will be very interesting and a big help for all of us. Keep up this great work. I really appreciate it 🤘
yea i think gold clip would be a great alternative to fl studios sh*tty soft clipper, just the price but🥲 thanks for the tips bro! they truly are GOLDEN tips😂
I'm building a mix-bus chain for my hybrid mixing setup. I was on the fence on which one I should get first in the chain. I need an eq on the front of that chain for shaping mids ect.. I know you own this so I trust your judgment on this.
The filters are super effective on this unit. However, I had some issues with the plugin when setting them up. I expect that this is something they’ll fix in an update.
Thanks for making this - in your next video about Gold Clip, can you PLEASE explain in detail "what to listen for in the DELTA signal"? -obviously we're going to hear the tips of transients which have been clipped, but "what" are we listening to/for exactly in the delta signal? (what specifically is a "GOOD" delta sound? - THAT would be an awesome thing to cover in yr next video! 🤗)
thank you . i learn so much from these videos. i have a question , what tool do you use to make these shorts high quality? I am teaching melodyne and I want to make better quality videos for my students. which program is this?
Really really trust your opinion and taste. I really hope you dont end up trying to sell us bunch of nonsense plugins that you don't even use ( everyone is becoming a plugin influencer lately i got sick of it) . at this point you have my 100 percent trust;) amazing to have you on youtube actually. thank you for another great demonstration.
Thank you! Currently, I’m not planning on developing a plug-in. However, if I ever decide to create one, I would most likely partner with a company to ensure it offers something new and powerful.
i love youur videos and i know you from soundbetter:) amazing to have you on youtube omg. thank you. and do I put the gold clip right before my ozone maximizer? finally a great engineer on youtube omg. sell a course I m buying.
This is all good, but the most important thing 90% miss is eliminating the information in the mix that is not relevant (makes mix boxy, dull, not larger than life etc.) and destroys all future attempts to push your mix to the limits in mastering etc. Yes, low end, O.K. it's obvious like an elefant in the room, but the big thing is eliminating the massive amounts of low - mids on every tracks (maybe one element, track or two are exceptions, it deppends on the frequency structure of the track...) so you have the space then for your mix to explode in the mastering stages. You don't eliminate them 100% but "you set the stage" (having belanced moves of course between elements so they work together) with all the tracks for boosting that stage (where 99% of the music is: from approx. 100HZ up to approx. 2KHZ) in mastering with analog hardware gear, mastering plug ins, saturation etc. You can squeeze max. out of your expensive gear rader than just playing the elimination game that could be played with 10$ software ... O.K. enough, this one is for free for all the guys that struggle, but I'm not going to give away more, it was too much try and error for more than 20 years. It's counterintuitive when you see it what the pro mixers are doing (it would blow your mind what kind of radical moves are happening...) but it's a game changer in the end making a difference between an average producer, mixer and a pro level guy. Space (for loudness etc.) the final frontier, haha.
Great addition, thank you! Absolutely. It’s crucial to get it right at the source rather than 'fixing' things later, as this approach yields the best results in mastering.
This is a non-sense artistically and technically speaking... do you know that when played on the radio that kind of over clipped track will play less "catchy" ? Do you know that ALL radio stations have ALL their Audio processor to do that Job? Orban, Omnia, ST, BreakAway One, DSPX and so many other exotic brands? And in all these audio processors the clipper is the last stage of the process, they can even clip the multiplex signal (The stereo signal to gain some PMux)... But LESS is MORE ! A serious & decent Sound engineer should never clip a song, NEVER! But he should instead use a gentle Limiter (lookahead or not it's a matter of taste) Frankly, I've been doing mixing & mastering for 30 years, i am now 55, No Serious Sound engineer will ever do that to an artist's track... or he has a serious problem...
Thanks for explaining some of the techniques used by radio stations! Keep in mind that this video is about the loud masters of dance tracks, which you can, for example, hear in a DJ set or on Beatport. You can definitely use a more dynamic master when it’s aimed at radio playback. However, it’s important to recognize the current targets of dance tracks and that clipping is a significant part of today’s modern sound.
You're not wrong, but like OP said, this is for Bass music. Most of which isn't playing on the radio station, but live audiences and headphone users/car systems. This is literal GOLD for these use cases.
@@thismixissick I 'am okay with you, if the target is only the Clubbing Scene, i share your thoughts, BUT if that track becomes a HIT and is played on Radios, you have to think of doing 2 different masters... One for Club and One for Radio Stations... (the last one should not be clipped... and processed in a more relaxed way) And this is what I've always done !
from this demonstration definitely gold clip! however standardclip also is good too or you can use acustica lift4 as clipper as well … the clipper mode was amazing & has mid clipping mode. i like use mode 3 which is sounds good on heavy bass music. so it depends on your taste, not every clipper is suit for everything 🙏🏻
Great input on Acustica Lift 4, Saddam! I’ll make sure to see if I can cover that in a video soon. To answer your question, Nicolas, I absolutely love StandardCLIP and feel it’s the most trustworthy choice in most cases.
