Gino Vanelli has that remarkable voice and stage presence..it all comes together with a great back up band..what a wonderful version of this classic hit of his !!!!
I saw him at five concerts of Weather Report in Europe. Those four guys were IMHO the best set up of that band. And what Peter delivered was absolutely perfect. This man deserves the highest respect. He is one of the greatest ones.
Remember watching him play with the Yellowjackets in London years ago, presumably as a late ring-in. Initially I was disappointed to learn this, but was completely bowled over by the end of the first piece. Pure class.
Wow that’s crazy I just watched his live in London performance and just with the height of his guitar and energy on stage I thought he must have started as a punk rocker.
Peter is a treasure...imagine all the experience...knowledge...his work ethics...his esthetic in a phrasing...his touch on instrument...his sound...any time we can hear this man talking is great chance to learn...

Peter, I throughly enjoyed your drumming on Nubian Sundance with the Metropole Orchestra. Speaking of Ringo, I admired his playing because he was a lefty and played a right-handed drum set. With Grusin and Ritenour leading the way, GRP Records were the undisputed titans of contemporary jazz music during the mid-'80s and '90s, despite its much misaligned and unfair criticism. Chick Corea, Dave Valentin, Kevin Eubanks, Dave Samuels, the Yellowjackets, and many others dominated the musical charts and raised the profile of instrumental music that exists until this very day. The brilliantly seductive, "Harlequin" was a crown jewel in their amazing catalog.
That is such a profound statement. I could never gravitate to smooth jazz; all the music sounds the same. The music is loud and makes no sense. The only push-back is that Kirk is unique and untouchable as a musician. I have followed his music for decades.
Fork I miss them good old days! Bought all Santana LP's. 69 years old now, and what a crappy hell hole of a world we live in today. The blast 4 years of Covid crap was just insane, no wax here, fork no! I thought we would create a better world back then, but nooooooo!
Kirk Whalum's take on Smooth Jazz can be said to extend to the music industry in general, for many years now, at that. I first heard him as a young teen, listening to Cosmic Messenger. I still have the vinyl. Been a fan ever since. I’ve seen him live 3 times. I certainly consider Ponty to be one of the elder statesmen of the field.
It’s always great hearing from these two. What instantly struck me was upon being asked the first question, one would assume, since Carlos was the leader of the band that he would naturally start talking. What he did instead was to immediately defer to Michael. That says a lot about the kind of person he is

Fantastic interview! I'm a fan of these two great figures and Ivan too. I found Dave in 1980 in a small record store in Canterbury, England, an imported JVC record, "Mountain Dance"... very expensive but after listening to 30 seconds, I bought it straight away and since then I have followed his fantastic career and even bought some of his first works... Lee, it was in '77 and I had the pleasure of talking to him a little at Blue Note a few years ago. Ivan Lins/Vitor Martins, is also an old love...1977. Genius composer and an excellent human being. I had the pleasure of producing a Tour in Portugal with him, Portuguese, Brazilian and African musicians and we have been friends since the early 90s and I hope for many years!!! This video does not make clear the techniques that Lennie employed or mention such obvious facts as that Les Paul and Mary Ford were over-dubbing music since the 1950 or maybe before. It does not mention the fact that all great pop music from the 1960's on was based on tracking. Personally, I think the four overdubbed tracks on this album are some of the best music Lennie every played and he should have released entire album of this kind of music. It was very advance and ahead of its time both rhythmically and harmonically.
Like many before me who mentioned being fans for so so many years. I to have been lucky to collect/own all the original albums from release and still own, I can say simply that nothing beats a night of listening, relaxing, losing yourself in the music of Santana,, whether it be Caravanseria, Abraxas, Lotus, Moonflower, through to the likes of Amigos, Shapeshifter, Inner secrets and many more joys before and after...it all makes total sense. The bands music, regardless of track, is spiritually uplifting, Now at 62' I still believe I fell into a lucky life hearing them for that first time way back then...

A musical milestone for sure. Got it for Christmas 1972. I was 14 years old. The cover art, the crickets... I felt that I was in a country that combined Iranian, Saharan, Mexican & Brazilian influences. That piano intro to La Fuente Del Ritmo, straight after the sublime Stone Flower. Wow! Gregg Rolie's simmering Hammond B3 throughout Credit however must be given to the two albums which led me into Caravanserai : Fool on the Hill by Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66 and Osibisa's first album
At the young age of 20 years old Mike Tyson unified the title and became the Heavyweight Champion of the World. At the young age of 20 years old Michael Shrieve became the equivalent of Heavyweight Champion of the world when he delivered a performance during Woodstock that is referred to 50 years later . Michael is an exceptional drummer. Carlos Santana is an exceptional guitarist. His Collaboration with Rob Thomas performing The song Smooth was history in the making.
