Hi, I'm Jenny, I read a bit of everything, and generally rant about books! You'll mainly find me with a book in hand (probably fantasy or romance. Or thriller), and with my dog and cat- who both make cameos in my videos! Email me on jennyayrefreelance@gmail.com for any queries
I need to get back on to doing readalongs for Tandem, it has been ages since I did one. To be fair I don’t get many emails from them these days. The Watchers is a great book, I reviewed it before it was published ages ago and before it was turned in to a film x
I just got the new Bea Fitzgerald book, the under dust jacket art on hardcovers are amazing. Vinted, I love that place. I am just about to restock my profile with a ton of books. Think I am Booksnink on there
I really need to get on board with that Fonda Lee series, I have all the books so I don’t know why I haven’t picked them up yet. If I can read the first one before the end of the year I will be chuffed. In other news, got Romantasy box and it is a belter, and not on kindle unlimited like the others x
A curse of blood and wolves was bloody awful, I read that last week and my god what a cheesy pile of loo roll. As that’s all it was good for, have to say it was a really duff choice made by the Fairyloot team for the Romantasy box
@@jenny_readss i’m enjoying it fairly well. I just wish the exciting bits were more frequent than every 100 pages or so. I’m on page 500ish now so things really should get rolling soon!
One book you need to read that comes out just after Pride month but it is a MUST read and that is The Betrayal of Thomas True by AJ West…I managed to get a rare arc and this book is bloody amazing. It is a historical mystery romance genre bending book that is bloody marvellous and it would suit any reader. This is the most gay book you will get your hands on as you are thrown back to 1700’s London and you explore the Molly Houses, one in particular. There is lust, longing, the most phenomenal descriptions and it is truly spectacular. It comes out on July 4th
Great to see you back in another video…can’t believe you wouldn’t be interested or invested in a book about a mushroom farm 😂 lol you are better than me chick as I would have dnf’d rather than torture myself reading it x
Ooo I’ve read Wolfsong, Daisy Darker, and Offer from a Gentleman and have Foxglove King, The Familiar, and Daughter of No Worlds on my TBR. I didn’t love Serpent and the Wings of Night though so intrigued to see what you think of DoNW. I think you’ll love Wolfsong, the found family is 😍😍
Daisy Darker is absolutely BRILLIANT and the best retelling of an Agatha Christie book I have read. It is super quick to read and holy shit the twist is fantastic
I just found Daisy Darker at a thriftstore. I am not sure when I will get to it, but I am looking forward to reading it when I do. Love Carissa Broadbent. I hope your reads go well.
Thank you! I bought Daisy Darker two years ago and still haven't read it! I feel like I don't hear much about it now so I can go in with minimal expectations
🐝 a book i would recommend thats set in the bridgeton era, and has some similar tropes is a ladys guide to fortune hunting by sophie irwin. Gonna have to check out the recommendations on the books i havent read. ❤
Some fabulous recommendations. I am a big fan of Bridgerton and managed to watch Series 3 this morning. I have some of the books, although I have not read them yet . 🐝
Great recommendations! I've read and loved The Love Hypothesis and Unfortunately Yours, rated them both a 5 star! I actually just soft dnf'd The Catch by Amy Lea, but after your description of it I'll be picking it back up, sounds like it gets good!
You made Only A Monster sound so good. I had to go and check my book selves to see if I had a copy, and yes, I have . So, hopefully, I will pick it up soon .
Have you been able to get to Jade War? We have extended things a bit and now have through June to read Jade Legacy! I am sorry that live shows don’t time out right for you!
Hi I am half way through 13 Treasures, what a book! I thought it was going to be a cosy read and was not expecting to have shivers and goosebumps every five minutes. Really good story and I will be looking forward to the next book in the series.
Funnily enough, all three books that I’ve finished this year are set in a small town: Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett (hard mode/HM), The Briar Book of the Dead by A.G. Slatter, and Swordheart by T. Kingfisher. If you are struggling with Eldritch Creatures, I think a lot of T. Kingfisher books have them, but I’m not sure about HM, since I’m not familiar with Lovecraft. If you choose to replace the book club square with YA, I read Legendborn by Tracy Deonn for that square last year. Books that I’ve read that would fit are: - A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos (First in a series HM). - Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (Alliterative title, Multi-POV HM). You can only read one book per author for this challenge though, so if you read Temeraire this wouldn’t count. - Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (Pub in the 90s HM). Check the CW. - Juniper and Thorn by Ava Reid (Character w/a disability HM). Check the CW. - Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse (Character w/a disability HM). - Ordinary Monsters by J.M Miro (Multi-POV HM). - How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu (Short Stories HM). Books that I want to read for this year’s bingo are: - Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft (First in a series HM). - The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty (Alliterative title HM). - Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield (Under the surface). - The Sign of the Dragon by Mary Soon Lee (Indie HM - I think this is indie-published). - Consort of Fire by Kit Rocha (Romantasy HM). - Curious Tides by Pascalle Lacelle (Dark Academia). - Spin by Rebecca Caprara (Character w/a disability HM - I believe the main character has bowlegs from some reviews, but I haven’t read it yet, so I’m not sure). - I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman (Pub in the 90s). - The Grace Year by Kim Liggett (Survival HM). - Faebound by Saara el-Arifi (Judge a book by its cover). - Skin Folk by Nalo Hopkinson (Short stories HM). - Gogmagog by Jeff Noon and Steve Beard (Eldritch Creatures).
You had a nice copy of Neverwhere . It is good to have a good clear out sometime even if it just to make more space on your shelves. I DNA The Starless Sea. What is your Vinted seller name . So I can follow you it is nice to find a good bookseller on there . I am on Instagram with the same name if you wanted to DM it instead of putting on here .
I love Vinted for finding books . I got the Tempest of Tea from Waterstones 😊 although I have not read anything else by this author. Also got Bride so that is on my TBR for later in the year .
I read Kingdom of the wicked and didn’t enjoy it, so I dnf the series, but I think those who loved the second book in that series wasn’t for the plot, but rather for the smut.
